I understand, Feel like I just read my own story. My first band worked about 1 1/2 yrs, I lost 45 lbs. then it wouldn't hold fluid anymore, had it replaced 12-17-09, I've had 2 fills since, Doc said last one (3 weeks ago) was pretty agressive and I'd really feel it, I don't, can still eat anything, never feel full, I'm really discouraged, don't even want to go back to Doc and get on the scale.

I had the defective band replaced 3 weeks ago. So far so good but it's still early. I remembered the first time it was slow going at first and I got discouraged but then it kicked in and I started loosing. I'm praying that this one will be the one, I won't go through this again for lap band or any other weight loss surgery! A Rep. from the lap band company was there for my surgery and he took the one that was removed with him and will send it to the company to have it checked. Everyone involved in this so far has been great. I'm keeping positive thoughts and trying hard to follow the diet.

Left Shoulder Pain After Lap Band Surgery
mlemlr replied to vbaum's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Just had my band replaced 12-17-09. My original banding was June, 07. I would get the shoulder pain after a fill, it lasted 3-5 days. Then, the last couple months its been bothering me almost constantly. I was hopeing when I got the band replaced the shoulder pain would be better, it's not. But its moved to a different place! It was always in the front of the shoulder now it runs across the top of my shoulder, weird. Like I said before, My Dr calls this pain referred pain. Tomorrow is my first post op visit, if it weren't for the shoulder, I would be doing great. I'm going to ask the Dr. if possibly an injection of some kind will help?? I'll keep you posted. -
Has anyone had to have their band replaced because of a defective band? I've been telling anyone who would listen for well over a year that the band wasn't working right. Dr kept taking me back month after month after month and putting more fill in. Said he didn't think there was a leak because he got pressure back when sticking the needle in the port (well the fluid had to be going somewhere) said I was the problem not the band:unsure:FINALLY, I waited 6 months, I've gained back 12 of the 45lbs I lost, but this time when the needle went in NOTHING came out, totally empty. Leak test was done, couldn't find a leak. Now I'm told it has to be replaced, I'm not sure how I feel about this:frown:, what are my rights when its a defective band? Should I be concerned?:cursing: My Dr says it's good I'll get a whole new generation of band, and their much better.

Have you had a leak in your port/tubing and had to have it replaced?
mlemlr replied to DrewsLou's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Its been 14 months since my banding, The first 10 months everything went well and I lost 45lbs. I only had to loose 80, my Dr. says the average for most people after banding is around 60% of the weight they need to loose. I've had three fills in the last 4 months, the first day or two I think "yes, its working this time" but by the third day after it opens up and I feel no restriction. I've told the Dr. I think there must be a small leak but he just keeps wanting to do another fill. I'm really discouraged, although he does really good fills, 1 stick, I have a lot of trouble with my left shoulder afterwards for a couple days so I really don't want any more fills. Do you think I should insist that he check for a leak? -
Need reassurance about when I will feel restriction
mlemlr replied to michiganer's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm having a lot of the same problems, Had my banding done June 2007, lost 45 lbs in about 7 months, then I got a fill that restricted me too much and everything I ate, even some soft stuff made me throw up. I had to complain, so the Dr took some out in the office, I haven't felt restricted since then and I've have 2 fills done in the last couple months. I almost wish I was back to where I was before he removed some in the office. I asked him at the last fill if these things leak, he told me it was fine, put in over 1cc and said I would feel it this time, NO, NOT, I still don't feel it and can eat almost anything. I get full feeling fast but it isn't no time at all and I'm hungry again. I'm panicking also. I hate to think a person goes through all this and then back slides. -
4th fill. Am I doing this wrong? Is there a sweet spot?
mlemlr replied to SRaeM's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've got similar problems. Got a fill and felt that it was tight, I could only get liquids down. Dr unfilled in his office and then I felt no restriction so 1 week ago he took me back to X-ray at the hospital and put in over 1cc, after a week I still don't feel like I have enough restriction. An hour after eating my stomach is growling like crazy. I hate to keep calling the Dr about this but I guess I'll have to. -
Left Shoulder Pain After Lap Band Surgery
mlemlr replied to vbaum's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've had the left shoulder pain on and off since surg in June 2007. Mine is top of my shoulder up into neck and down the arm, hard to pin point the spot, I'm thinking a nerve thing, seems to be worse after exercise or if out walking around a store. I work for an Orthopedic Dr and have never said anything just thinking it was the pain everyone has after surg. but yours all seem to be in the front/upper chest area, is that correst? -

Congrats everyone! This is really hard work! and I think slow going. I'll loose good for a week or 2 then slow down again. After my last fill (#3) everything I consume is mostly liquid. I was upset at first but I'm going to hang in there till I loose 25 more lbs then I'll have a little taken out so I can eat a little more. I miss food! I've lost 40lbs since June 14th -
What Type of Multi Vitamin Do You Take?
mlemlr replied to ♥LadyBug♥'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was recently told to start a calcium supp. There is one called Viactive, its a chewable chocolate or caramel candy type item, I noticed that there is a new multi-vitamin brand also that I think I will try because its actually very good tasting. I hate those chewable Centrums, taste to me like a sweet tart and I never liked those! -
Saw my surgeon that did my lap band today, I asked him about the palpatations (again) told him about all the ideas and suggestions. He says that he thinks its because certain people are more prone to the palpatations anyway but after lap band your diet changes and most women especially need extra calcium and magnesium. He said that when he was a resident that when someone had a heart attack that they gave them calcium and it would stop the arrythmias. He suggested the medication Citracel, said the calcium thats in Tums also has carbinate which will cause gas so to stay away from that kind. He also said to increase fluids big time. I don't know, I guess I'll try it out and see what happens, he also wants to do another fill, it will be my third because I've only lost 4 lbs the last 6 weeks. :cry I'll be sure to let you all know how it goes.

I started this thread a couple months ago, I'm sitting here right now having such palpatations my hands are like ice and every time it does it I get light headed. I did go back to my Cardiologist last week. They did a 24 hour moniter, (of course on a day I was feeling better) and he said "Oh your doing much better, come back in 4 months) I told him that I have really bad days, his response was that in 4 months if I'm still having them we'll do another moniter that I wear for quite some time. I asked him if these palpatations would damage my heart or injur me in any other way and he said no that they were just annoying to me. Sorry but it sure makes me feel bad and I'm still worried.

Yes, I'm still having palpatations, weird. I've been seeing a Cardiologist but I think it has him stumped also. They stopped for several weeks, I thought whatever it was has healed itself:phanvan but they started back up again this past weekend. I'm not doing anything different, same meds, same food. I go back to the Cardiologist tomorrow, I'll see what he has to say. I still think it has something to do with the lap band, but unless they tell me its going to kill me they arn't getting my band!
