valarie kk replied to kayzoog's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine is 2 weeks liquid. 70g protein and 30 carbs. I got the isopure. Its 40g protein and then I have atkins drinks. Totals 70 of protein. I figure I can make up the carbs with sugar free popsicles and diet cranberry juice. I start next monday and I swear my body must know it's going to be deprived. I have been craving food like crazy this week. -
March 2014 Bandsters - Let's Do This!
valarie kk replied to kayzoog's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I start mine this coming Monday. I already have everything bought and every single meal for 2 weeks planned out. Yes I know slightly OCD but if I don't plan ahead it's makes it easier to slip up. Keep me posted on how it's going. Most people say it gets easier by day 3. -
February 2014 bandsters?
valarie kk replied to slinkielovin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Goodluck starfish!!! So excited for you. Keep us posted when you feel good enough:) -
I think it's lack of food, and realizing that you just can't eat like you did before even if your not hungry it's still really hard to turn down food at the office. I work at a family med clinic and go through the same thing. It's hard to turn down pizza when the boss is buying. Not to mention you went back to work quickly and it's hard to be your sunny self when your trying to work and still having discomfort. Finally I think it's everything combined. Your world and habits just got turned upside down. Give yourself some time to recover and I bet 2 weeks from now you'll feel much better. I would say next time your in the killeen area maybe we could do lunch but now I guess we would have to do a walk. Keep your head up what your feeling is normal. You got this!!!!
-
Glad to hear everything went well with the surgery I didn't realize you were so close to me. My husband is stationed at Fort Hood so I live in Killeen. You'll have to let me know how it was going back to work so quickly since I've only taken 3 days off. Take care of yourself and good luck.

I was going to say the same thing. It seems like she is jealous because you have the courage to do something postive instead of sitting around being miserable. Honestly be prepared she will probably be even worse once the weight starts coming off. My advice is to just do you and don't worry about the ugly people who will try to bring you down.

March 2014 Bandsters - Let's Do This!

It seems like there are a few of us with a march date. This site has really helped me. So much support and advice. I feel like I've learned exactly how to make the most of wls because others are so willing to share their stories and experiences. Honestly im not nervous at all, I mean really im going to be healthier, more energy, more self confidence. In essence im getting my life back and that excitment out weighs everything else. Im realistic I know it's taken me years to put the weight on and it will take time to lose it, but I feel like I'm being given a gift and plan on making the most of it. Good luck to everyone on this journey. -
tricare prime overseas-germany questions
valarie kk replied to canthony11242004's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
With Tricare Standard you don't need a referral. I just made an appointment with the surgeon. Once I was at my appointment they explained they would need tricare approval and you either had to to have a BMI of 40 or greater or have co morbid conditions. It took 2 weeks and I was approved for the surgery as well as the nutrition visit and the psych consult. Once I had completed that my surgery was scheduled. My advice would be to switch doctors. Do some research find what doctor has approved it for other people, and then make sure you tell them you have been fighting your weight for at least 10 years and have tried every diet out there plus weight loss drugs. I didn't have to do supervised weight loss or attend any seminars. Also if they say no appeal it if you need to. Don't take no for answer. Hope this helps -

My date is March 10th and I'm not nervous at all but I think that's only because I worked in surgery and I know exactly what to expect. Congrats to everyone on their date. -
Anyone being banded in March?
valarie kk replied to Magician44's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so excited to see other people with the same month and we are only 1 day apart. Go us! My surgeon requires a 2 week preop diet so starting February 24th Protein shakes here I come. Congrats on your date. -
Congrats on surgery. Glad everything went well. In 2 weeks I start my preop diet and I have to caution my husband about buying to much food since it will just be him eating it all. He's very supportive but I don't think he's aware of all the changes I have to make to be a healthy happier me. I think it's almost harder on family, we have researched and know exactly what we have to do to be successful, but they seem to think food is forever forbidden to us. I wish you the best of luck on this journey.

tricare prime overseas-germany questions
valarie kk replied to canthony11242004's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I switched to tricare standard and all I had to do was find a surgeon. I was approved in about 2 weeks and only had to do one nutrition visit and the psych eval. They don't do the lap band at Darnall so thankfully I don't have to have surgery at an army hospital. -
I agree with Leepers. I'm a surgical nurse so in addition to the leads not sticking they prefer you not wear makeup so the CRNA or anesthesiologist can monitor your color. Also if you wear contact bring your glasses and no metal - piercings included.

Congrats. Sending prayers for a speedy recovery.

Surgery on a Friday...back to work Monday
valarie kk replied to krps0930's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm only taking 3 days off as well. I'm 100% healthy no issues at all other then weight, young and have a desk job. I had open abdominal surgery on a Thursday and drove myself to nursing school on a Monday. I figure if I can do that I can handle a laparoscopic surgery -

Magician I think it's completely normal to be scared. This is a big step, but you have your mind in the right place. You have thought long and hard about this decision. Your ready to make changes in your life. I'm ready to embrace a healthy new me and start living life again. You can do this!! Don't even think of failing, think of how wonderful it will be to see the pounds coming off, having more energy, gaining confidence and self esteem. Have faith in yourself - you can and will be successful -
So I finally have a surgery date (3/10) and I guese it's time to tell my story. I have not been overweight my whole life. I was an athlete in high school and that carried over into my adult life. I've never been "skinny" just fit and curvy. Then suddenly about 10 years ago I couldn't eat whatever I wanted without gaining weight. Ok no big deal I ate better and exercised more and lost the weight but since then it's been a struggle up and down constantly dieting. The final straw came when I had to quit smoking for a job I wanted. I gained 50 pounds in less than 2 months and no matter what I do its here to stay. Since the weight gain ny self esteem has plummeted. I no longer leave the house because I'm ashamed of how I look. I go to work and come home. Because of this I feel every aspect if my life has suffered. I dont feel like a good wife, because I never have the energy to do anything with my husband and I always feel like im just the fat employee. In short I was tired of sitting around watching my life pass me by. I started with research to find out what my options were and settled on the lap band for 2 reasons. 1. Less invasive and 2. Its reversible. I understand the lifestyle changes I need to make and bad habits that need to be broke. I feel like this is the start to finally being able to look at myself in the mirror again.

Thank you. My doctor requires 2 week preop diet so it will be here before I know it. So filled with excitement right now.

valarie kk replied to krps0930's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

I agree. It's a matter of listening to your band and following the rules. Congrats on your date!! -
Bandista you nailed it. I'm tired of food controlling me. Life is so short I just want to be healthy and have the energy to keep up with my husband. I really have no health issues other then weight, but I have a horrible family history. I'm hoping by getting healthy I can that. Thank you for any advice or support
