My Surgeon is gonna call me!
valarie kk replied to DMB41's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I asked mine what kind of band I was getting, what size, will it be primed during surgery, and if yes with how much, how often does he do fills, how aggressive is he, how many surgeries has he done, hiw many of those surgeries has had complications, has he had to do any revisions. Im a surgical nurse so the surgery part I already knew. I wanted to know the technical stuff you might wanna ask how long you need off from work, your exact diet plan pre and post op if he hasn't already told you. What to do for pain, if he has a script for pain ask if you can get it filled before surgery so its ready. Ask about gas pain and what to do to relieve it. Write things down so you remember to ask. And as always you picked him listen to his advise and trust he knows what he's doing and can help guide you on this journey. -

I believe I had a post just like this one except I said preop diet sucks a$$ personally it didn't get easier for me, but I stuck to it because I wanted my surgery and post op to go good. Im almost 3 weeks out and couldn't be happier. Just remember why your doing this and remember you will eat again just healthier. I dont even crave the junk I did before. Belive it or not I crave tuna, turkey, and chicken. I've been in your shoes. It does get better -
How can I prepare before the surgery?
valarie kk replied to cccv4's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I work at a family med clinic so I have been extremely fortunate that I could share my surgery. Obviously doctors and nurses support a healthy weight. We had a pot luck at work and they made sure lots of fruits and vegetables were included. I know some people are very private and choose not to share, but I'm glad I did. My co workers are so supportive and I've got half the clinic hooked on making protein shakes. For me it was easier to share. I don't have to explain my small portion of tuna at lunch they all understand. I guess it's really up to what makes you comfortable -
One month banded and my port flipped
valarie kk replied to fatty2hottie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm hoping everything went well for you and you can finally get back to being you and healing up. Good luck -
Im sorry some one at work was so damn insensitive, but hang tough. Like 2muchfun says all the time. You just had surgery worry about healing. Im not sure what stage your in but for some reason full liquids made me gain weight. After that I refused to step on the scale. Now I pay attention to how my cloths fit and not the scale. Your doing great keep up the good work and remember this is a marathon not a sprint and you will see your hard work pay off in time.

Where do you find the protein shots?

Fill doing surgery (question)
valarie kk replied to Ivowtodoit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was primed with 3ml during surgery but that doesn't necessarily mean you will feel restriction. Im due for my first fill in a couple of weeks. -

Well today is my 6th day being banded and I feel different in so many ways. First off I feel almost guilty because I've had no pain, no gas, went back to work after 3 days and I'm doing fantastic. I finally got on the scale and I've lost 5 pounds for a total of 20 since preop. Im smart enough to know that yes I'm still swollen from surgery and that has helped but I refuse to give all the credit to surgery. Thanks to the advise of many - carolinagirl, 2muchfun, karen, bandista, sandy and so many more I'm fully aware of what I need to do to be successful. I treat this band like I'm already at the green zone. I measure my food, I only take small sips of soup then put my spoon down and count to 30, I drink all the water im supposed to, I make sure im getting the protein I should be. Im doing what I need to and finally I have my mind in the game. I refuse to believe that I will be anything but successful. Yes the 20 pounds is great, but whats even better is I can now wear my most cherished piece of jewelery - my wedding ring. I wish everyone else good luck and I hope all your pains soon subside because right now I feel better then I have in a long time and everyone deserves to feel this way.

It varies. Every doctor is different and yours should tell ahead of time so that your able to prepare. My doctor and nut have a whole booklet made that walks you through each stage. It tells you what foods you can eat, how much water you need, how much protein you need, and exactly how many days you will be in each stage. I personally was banded 03/10/14 and can not attempt "regular" food for 5-6 weeks. This is just what my doctors plan is. Every doctor and every person will have variations.

Believe it or not absolutely no pain. I was a little stiff and sore but the more I moved around the more even that went away. I honestly think my mind set has helped me. I simply believed I would do good and made it happen. Thank you for all the support from everyone. Your advise, wisdom, and experience has made this so much easier.

Congrats on being banded. I had mine done on Monday and went back tobwork Thursday. Hang in there every day gets a little easier and hey my tight scrubs are already loose. So much to look forward to. -
Congrats. I literally would roll off the couch into the floor and then get up. Boy the husband laughed at me. I wish I had more advice to give but I haven't had any pain at all. Hope things get better soon.

Hope you guys are doing ok. I'm 4 days out and other then some slight soreness at the port site I feel fantastic. I haven't had any pain at all and I've been walking walking walking. Finding it hard to get all of my protein in because I'm not hungry at all, but I'm prepared for that to change in the next week or so. I have no problem with water or juice but anything more substantial even a protein shake and I'm full after a small amount. I won't complain I'm sure I'll be hungry soon enough. Good luck and keep us updated. -
Not feeling "full"
valarie kk replied to nolookinback's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's what I was figuring. Luckily my doctor is pretty aggressive with fills. I asked him how long the average banister hell is and he said he does fills every 2-4 weeks to try and avoid that. He said this is the honeymoon period, where your most likely doing everything right and we need to take advantage of that for optimal weight loss. I have a 10cc band and he said most people reach the green zone between 5-6cc. Of course everyone is different, some will take more and some it takes less. I'm just hoping I can be one of the lucky ones. -

Not feeling "full"
valarie kk replied to nolookinback's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had my surgery on Monday and still doing liquids, but after just a few sips I immediately get the sign to stop. Pain in the left shoulder and a huge gas bubble in the middle of my chest. My band was primed with 3cc so that could be the difference. It's so odd to not be hungry. Good luck -
Surgery was at 0800 this morning. Slept off some of the anesthesia and feel pretty damn good. I've been up walking around and have neither incision pain nor has pain. Do feel sleepy agin though, maybe time for another nap
-
I had surgery this Monday and I'm going back to work tomorrow. I've been lucky and haven't had any pain at all from the incisions or gas. I think I would go stir crazy if I had to stay home one more day. I think it's really up to what you feel like you can handle.
