CurvyCakes replied to Justicenga's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What's ur date? My date is march 31. I'm taking off next week and then the following week is spring break. My date is also March 31. Are you ready? That is fast almost lightening fast. Sending skinny vibes ur way. When we heal up some may we can walk the trails or stone mountain together. Keep me posted how ur doing and I will do the same. -
I'm doing very well. I actually still have pre-op and post-op items to buy. I think after surgery I will be just fine it's the pre-op liquid diet I'm dreading.

Pre-op liquid diet and losing weight
CurvyCakes replied to mentalistfan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello everyone. My surgeon and my NUT stressed the importance of following the pre-op liquid diet. The most important role is to shrink/reduce the size of our liver. Apparently they use a tool to hold ur liver up so that they can access the stomach like they need to. Some that didn't follow the pre-op diet as instructed liver was larger than it needed to be so the surgeon didn't sleeve the patient. I can't imagine waking up with 5-6 incisions In pain and haven't been sleeved. I remember saying "OH IF I WAKE UP AND HAVENT BEEN SLEEVED PLEASE HAVE ATLANTA'S FINEST STANDING BY BECAUSE I'M GOING HAMMMMM" lol I couldn't believe my ears. With all that said I'm dreading my liquid diet but planning to do as told because these hips will not look cute in a hideous orange jail jumper. I use to worry about losing too much getting under the required 40 BMI but once u have ur approval letter ur approved. That weight recorded at the very beginning and the last one at ur surgeons office as ur ending weight that's submitted to ur insurance is what the insurance approval is normally based on. All plans aren't the same but that's usually a pretty general rule. Good luck to everyone as we prepare to change our lives forever for the better. -
Great idea!

No worries on the pm I will tell ya how to do it. I'm on iPhone app too. If u touch my profile picture it will take u to another screen. At the bottom of that screen u will see the the option to private message me. I'm going to send u one and when I do u will see a notification at the bottom of ur regular screen that u have a message. Touch that area and it will take u to my message. I we started this process seeking the lap band but the surgeon wasn't for it at all. She felt the success rate wasn't good and the amount of weight my daughter and I have to lose VSG is just a much better option. I was against VSG cuz it was more invasive but once I weighed everything out it I decided I agree with the surgeon and decided on the sleeve. This journey will have it's good days and not so good ones but we will all be here supporting each other every step if the way. That's very encouraging for me.

I am April 21st too...I'm having second thoughts...anyone else? Not having seconds thoughts but my emotions go from super excited to scared to death. My biggest fears r not waking up after surgery, blood clot, and feeling like I've been hit by a train when I open my eyes in recovery. I think these r normal fears but nothings enough to keep me from getting my sleeve. Nothing scares me as much remaining in this over weight healthy state I'm in currently. Skinny vibes to u and I know u will do great with ur surgery.

What does ur pre-op diet consist of? Mines is 3 protein shakes, sugar free carbonation free drinks, sf Popsicles, sf jello, and broth. HOLY MOLY lord help me threw this lol.

Hey there! The 14th is such a special day for quite a bit of us I see lol. I guess we are quadruplets because CurvyGoddess is also on the 14tjh. This is so exciting and yes no doubt we will all stay in touch but not just through pre-op but through out our journey at least for the first year. This way we can share in the good times and not so good, see each other's progress, and just be rock stars together. I'm going to pm u my cell number. We are having surgery in Atlanta. I say we because CurvyGoddess is my daughter she's being sleeved at 10am and myself at noon ha! Initially I was like premier is so awesome then I bought a second box from Sam's and that box of shakes seemed thick for some reason. I prefer my shake a little watery so I just add Water to it. It still taste good to me but Chike is at the top of my list as my favorite shake.

I met Tiffany when I went to interview Dr Macik as a potential surgeon. I decided to go with a different surgeon but Tiffany was very pleasant.

Would like to connect with others in Georgia on this WLS journey. I have UHC and they require the hospital be a 5 star center of excellence and in my area that's only 2 hospitals. I absolutely love my surgeon thank goodness but the hospital in my opinion can use a major face lift. Credential wise I have no concern about the hospital just wish it was more pleasing to the eye with a bariatric floor. Several fellow Sleevers hospital of choice had a bariatric floor which I thought was awesome! At my hospital no bariatric floor and no complimentary Bari Bear LOL but I'm ordering mines on line. Where are you having surgery? Who's your surgeon? How have your experience been thus far?

Looking for a buddy! Surgery april 2!

Hey there. I'm in the Atlanta area and not allowed any veggie during pre op diet. Full liquids only. Being in Canada do u have a portion u pay or being a universal healthcare system it's 100% covered? -
I'm April 14th too...I'm only required to do a 1 week pre-op liquid diet but I'm going to do the full 14 days. NUT gave us a 5 day meal plan to start right away up until liquid diet but I'm planning to continue having smaller portions and do the liquid diet for 2 weeks.

I agree on the fast yet slow analogy. Lately I find it hard to sleep and anxious about the surgery it's almost as it's consuming every inch of my brain lol. -
Eating Carbs Post VSG
CurvyCakes replied to CurvyCakes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
PCOS has been a nightmare. It's like a yo yo effect the more over weight u r the worst the insulin resistance and other PCOS issues u have. Being able to drop the weight is predicted to help the symptoms drastically. Having dieted what feels like allll my life I want to find whatever my niche is so that I can be successful. Looks like it will be a period of trial and error to find out what my carb thresh hold will be. I feel good at this point after hearing how others on this WLS journey have been able to find their niche in the carbs area in time I will find mines as well. Thanks for sharing. -
What have u been advised about eating carbs after WLS? I was totally surprised when my NUT said we will not be eliminating any food groups and carbs was incorporated into the sample menus she provided to us. I thought based on what I've read Sleevers r eating after surgery that I would have to follow a lo carb diet. Now the carbs present on the sample menus were complex carbs but I was still in total shocked that starchy veggies and complex carbs was in versus out.....does this sound right?? What advice were u given about eating carbs post VSG???
