Hit a stall 3 wks out. GRRRRR!
jtickle replied to mi75's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was obsessed with scale and I paid the price during my week 3 stall. I got really upset. Finally when it broke 2 weeks later I lost 13 pounds in 3 days. Anyway, back to the scale thing. Put the scale away, it is your enemy. You will lose inches during your stall if you are exercising like you are told too. I dropped from a 26 to an 18/20 in 3 weeks. My bra size went from a 46c to a 42b in 3 weeks. I am currently only losing about 3 pounds per week, but my clothes are getting bigger and bigger. I almost have nothing to wear. The next time I am getting on a scale is next week when I go see the gyno for my exam. Then on the 20th when I go see my surgeon. However, I am hoping that I will have lost 65 pounds by September 10th when I go see my psychiatrist. He hasn't seen me since before my surgery which was June 25th. He will be shocked. Hope everyone is having a good recovery!!! -
not your usual protein shake question
jtickle replied to jtickle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon says we can keep drinking them to make we get our all protein in. I know some surgeons are different and they want a person to get all their protein from food. I'm going to keep drinking them, I can't eat 80 grams of protein a day. -
I have been bouncing off the walls since I came home from the hospital. The doctor told me to relax for two weeks afterwards, I relaxed by cleaning the house and the garage out. I thought going to the gym would wear me out, but it doesn't. I am so glad I have so much energy now, before all I would do is sit around and watch TV. My house is much cleaner.

Any Newbies with United Healthcare Choice plus
jtickle replied to Flygirl123's topic in Insurance & Financing
I started on March 3rd of this year and was submitted to insurance in mid April, found out I was approved on April 29. They actually submitted my paperwork a little late because the insurance coordinator was gone for a week. -
They will also do private personal training sessions at Planet Fitness. You just have to make an appointment. It may be a black card thing though. It's only 20 a month and you can use the whole gym. I love planet fitness. I also belong to anytime fitness and I hate going there. Their trainers are constantly bugging you to buy training sessions and the place is full of lunks. I had a free training session there once and I had to explain to the trainer that I have screws and rods in my lower back. He tried to convince that he was a spine specialist. He nearly killed me. That was the last time I went. I did some research and for the most part anyone can become a personal trainer. You just have to take a test. A certified athletic trainer has a bachelor's degree in kinesiology. An exercise physiologist has a master's degree in kinesiology.

Any Newbies with United Healthcare Choice plus
jtickle replied to Flygirl123's topic in Insurance & Financing
I have UHC Choice Plus. They have been great. The only requirements I had was to be over 18,bariatric center of excellence, and BMI of 40. No diet or psych evaluation. Of course once my paperwork was submitted I would call them two or three times a day to check on the status. I would call their clinical services department though. That's not the same as the number on the back of your card. This the department where the decisions are made. After 5 days I was allowed to put in request to have it moved to the front of the line. After I did that I was approved within hours, they were even nice to call me and tell me I was approved. My doctor's office called me about an hour later and scheduled my surgery. -
I have an odd NSV. I got rid of my scale yesterday. That thing has become my enemy. I know they say keep you friends close, but keep your enemies closer. Lol! Unfortunately, we had to part ways. I am one of those people that will weigh themselves several times a day. Then I get discouraged and it's all down hill from there. You see I am used to losing one pound a day and if I don't do that I get upset. I am losing tons of inches, don't know for sure how many so far because I never measured myself. I should have. I have dropped 4 pant sizes, 26 to an 18/20 and have went from a 46c to a 42b in about three weeks. Going to the gym is really dropping the inches, guess I thought I would lose equal parts inches and weight. Anyways, that enough of my rant, thanks for listening.

How long after insurance approval were you scheduled?
jtickle replied to ready2B's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was scheduled within hours of having my approval from insurance. Had surgery a couple of weeks later. -
You guys have help me feel a lot better. I guess I still see myself as the 325 pound person. I know I need to get rid of the scale. I put it up in the closet and I am not going to weigh myself until I get to my appointment on the 20th. I wish I would have never bought the dang thing. If I have the ability to change my lifestyle, I can stay off the scale for a while. Normally I wouldn't care about what other people are losing, I just started thinking about it for the last few days. My husband says I am to hard on myself. Thanks for all your replies.

I honestly don't know. I read about all these people who are at the same place I am who have lost 50 pounds after surgery. I just want to know if I am on the right track.

Trying to eat and I am afraid.
jtickle replied to pik's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I apologize, I am using the app on the phone I can't see your ticker. -
I turn into an eating machine when I have my cycle. Usually only last a couple of days. My weight loss will slow down for a bit but then it picks back up when all is said and done.

The process is starting
jtickle replied to ambieambs's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Congratulations!! I started my journey on March 3rd of this year and had my surgery on June 25th. It's best thing I have ever done for myself. No more diabetes or heartburn. I have lost 53 pounds. I am losing slowly because I am having a hard time getting all my protein in, however, the inches are just falling off. I have went from a 26 to an 18 in the last 3 weeks. Even my bra size has went from a 46c to a 42b in the same amount of time. I went from couch potato to either going to the gym to use the treadmill for an hour or riding my bike for 10 to 15 miles. I exercise 6 days a week. I hope your weight loss journey goes smoothly. Keep us updated. -
I would do the bypass due to the diabetes. My sugars were in the 300s, and they came down some with the preop diet. Also before surgery my A1c was over 10. My sugars were normal two days after surgery. I was taken off all diabetes meds when I was discharged from the hospital. I haven't had any labs since before surgery so I don't know what A1c is currently. I think I am having labs done at my six week appointment coming up. I have lost 53 pounds.

I had my surgery on June 25th. My energy level has been thru the roof since I came home from the hospital. I did not have pain or nausea. I started going to the gym 6 days a week at 2 weeks out. I either do an hour on the treadmill or 10 to 15 miles on the bike. The treadmill get my heart rate higher so I mainly do that. I use the bike when my husband comes with me to gym. He is unable to use the treadmill because he has severe bone spurs in his heels. I am currently eating to 2 to 4 ounces of Protein 3 times a day. I still have a Protein shake or two each day. To make sure I am getting all my protein in. I stalled at three weeks and gained 8 pounds. This lasted about 2 weeks and then it broke and I lost 13 pounds in 3 days. I went back to losing one pound a day and I lost 4 a couple days after that. Hopefully the weight keep coming off even if it is slowly. During my stall I went from a 26 to an 18 in pants sizes and my bra size went from a 46c to a 42b. Most people lose inches during a stall. Just don't get discouraged and keep exercising if you are doing so.

Got to settings, click on my tickers. Go thru the motions of getting to the info part. Put in your info. If you already have a ticker you may have retype your whole weight in. Sometimes it just won't let you change just the number on the end. Click on finish. -
Trying to eat and I am afraid.
jtickle replied to pik's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't speak for anyone else, but I am pretty sure that most of us were on liquid diets four days out. Surgeons are different though. Me personally I would be on a liquid diet, eating food even if it is soft can rupture a staple line and start a whole mess of problems. I wasn't allowed soft food until after two weeks out. I can't eat tuna no matter how well I chew. It gets stuck and hurts like you would not believe. I can't stomach eggs anymore either, I loved them before surgery. Anyway, good luck with your recovery. -
Late 20s/early 30s women who had RNY
jtickle replied to Jessica.O's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I am 34, married, but I'm not chasing any kids. Nothing wrong with children, I just love the ones that don't come home with me. My highest weight was 325. I was 299 the day of surgery. Now I am 273. I carry most of my weight in my midsection. I have a big tummy and no butt. I have went from a 26 to an 18 in the last 3 weeks. I have extra skin on my inner thighs and on my arms. I still have a chubby tummy, but I know once I lose more weight I will have extra skin there too. Oh yeah, my bra size has gone from a 46c to 44b. I could probably wear a 42b but I just haven't bought one to try it. I workout 6 days a week whether it's on the treadmill or cycling. I have accepted the fact that I am going to have extra skin. I plan on getting a breast lift with augmentation and a tummy tuck once my weight stabilizes. My husband bought pizza one night and that was my moment of regret, but he paid the price for cause he had to eat for 4 days. -
To me soup is just like drinking water, it just flows right on through. I bought a can of fat free cream of chicken and ate the whole 10oz can. Won't be doing that again, I felt no restriction at all.

I used pure protein plus from Sam's Club before preop diet. On my preop diet I used bariatric advantage orange creme and banana flavors, they were pretty good. Now I am back on the pure protein plus. The nutritionist has us mix them with milk instead of water. It's more feeling and tastes better.

I stalled and gained 8 pounds as soon as I was liquid taken off the liquid diet. It lasted around two weeks. I was so upset, since I am a daily weigher. However, I went from a 26 to an 18/20 in pants and from 46c to 42b in bra size during the stall. I am losing very slowly. I lost 12 pounds in 3 days and went back to losing one pound a day. Then I had a day where I got in about a 100 grams of protein and I lost 4 pounds in a day. It's all about the protein the more you consume the faster the weight will come off. Don't get discouraged during your stall it will end.

My nutritionist didn't give us a number for calories. She just emphasized the amount of protein needed daily. I doubt I am even getting 800 calories a day.

Thank you!! That makes me feel so good. I hope your family enjoys going to gym. I kinda do it in sections, I have to do 30 minute no matter what. Then if I feel good after that I go for 45 minutes and eventually make it to an hour. I usually do the treadmill, but I do the bike when my husband goes with me on his days of from work. I do the treadmill a lot because it is only piece of equipment that I can get my heart rate high enough on. I tried the elliptical but I have had 6 surgeries on my lower back and it's just not the machine for me. I plan on getting a real bicycle at Christmas time. We rode the bike trails where I live for 15 miles a couple of weeks ago. I was tired but it was fun. Remember to start out slow, you don't have to be a hero the first time there. Choose a goal and work towards that. My goal was to be able to walk over 3 miles on the treadmill and I met that this week. I don't plan on being a runner but I sure can walk fast. Make working out fun and the time will go by really fast.
