I am so excited for everyone who has a June 9th date. That is my wedding anniversary. I am looking forward to your experiences so I can be better prepared for my surgery on the 25th of June. I hope the month of May just blows by. I wish I had a job so I could have something to concentrate on while I am waiting. I am so glad I found this website. Good luck everyone!!!!

$600 Bariatric Program Fee
jtickle replied to CurvyCakes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh yeah, I forgot I have to buy a starter kit of vitamins and protein shakes from the doctor's office. It is 250 dollars. It is mandatory that I buy it from them. Buying it isn't a problem considering my out of pocket and deductible have been met. So I owe nothing for surgery. -
surgery switch not welcome news
jtickle replied to rhfactor272's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I too was on board with getting the sleeve. However, I have severe GERD. I take two meds for it twice a day and they still don't help it. My surgeon wouldn't even consider doing the sleeve on me. Sure, I was upset that I couldn't get the sleeve, but I want to get rid of this terrible heartburn. I am scheduled to have the RNY on June 25th. I thought I would be excited about being thinner, but I am happier about getting rid of this reflux. Skinny is a bonus. Good luck on your journey!!! -
$600 Bariatric Program Fee
jtickle replied to CurvyCakes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to pay a 100 dollar enrollment fee at the seminar to start the program and now that i am scheduled for surgery i have to pay a 75 dollar fee which covers a years worth of dietitian visits after surgery. A fee of 600 dollars does seem a little steep, but it will be worth it in the end. -
I didn't have to deal with the bariatric resources much. I had to enroll in their program, but i wasn't required to have nurse consults with them. The only time i talked to a nurse from there she told me that i should get the lap band cause it doesn't have malabsorption issues. I have seriously out of control diabetes, and i was approved for the rny. I dont really think that nurse new what she was talking about.

Ive been told I no longer have to wait 6 months
jtickle replied to cheyanneB2014's topic in Insurance & Financing
I started my journey on March 3rd, this year. My surgery is scheduled for June 25th. When I have surgery I will have been waiting 114 days for it. I did not have to do a 3 or 6 month diet. I could of got a date in May but I have to take care of a financial matter before I can have my surgery. -
I went to Red Lobster and tonight it's pizza, then on the diet I go. My surgeon will cancel if we gain any weight before surgery. I am actually looking forward to this diet, it has a big reward at the end. Good luck to everyone!!!

Congrats!!! I got my approval on Tuesday. It was such a weight off my shoulders and I didn't have to do the 6 month wait. I would of never made it through the 6 months, I don't have very much patience. I admire everyone who has to do the waiting period. I got my date the day I got approved. My big day is June 25th.

What type of questions to expect during psych evaluation?
jtickle replied to SillyMomo's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Its pretty important. Its to make sure you have a good support system in place and that you know that the surgery is just a tool to help you lose weight. You will probably have to take a pretty lengthy test as well. I got lucky I have a mental illness so my psychiatrist wrote my surgeon a letter stating that I could make decisions about surgery myself and that it would benefit my mental health. That got me out of having a psych eval thru the surgeon's office. I hope you have a smooth weight loss journey. Keep us posted. -
anyone from Indiana get WLS using Medicaid? Is it hard to get approved through Medicaid?
jtickle replied to cherrybomb420's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have UHC insurance through my husband's work. My husband and I went to a seminar for my husband, so he can start the program. The insurance coordinator was there and she explained that Arkansas pays 100% if you have Medicaid, but Medicare only pays 80%. Good luck with your WLS journey and keep us posted. -
Congrats!! I got my approval on Tuesday. Already have a pre-op date of June 19th and a surgery date of June 25th.

That is terrible that they would do something like that. I don't think the hospital can tell them you had surgery due to privacy issues.
-
Got a call from surgeon's office this morning, I only have to pay 75 dollars for a years worth of dietitian visits after my surgery. I owe nothing for the surgery itself. This news can only make a person a happy and a little less stressed.

jtickle replied to cherrybomb420's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should call to find out what your state requires. Every state is different, I'm from Arkansas and Medicaid pays 100% of weight loss surgery here. -
I have UHC and I was approved in a week.

Any procedures that were done after your out of pocket max is met will be covered. If your tests and labs were done before your OOP max was met you will have a balance to pay. Check online or your explanation of benefits to see when it was met.

Anxiety, have you had it since surgery?
jtickle replied to CaliGal1's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Depending on how long ago your surgery was, anesthesia can make you go through all these emotions. It can take a couple of weeks to get it out of your system. -
My preop is June 19th and surgery is the 25th. So excited!!!

I have UHC Choice Plus, I was approved in a week.

Last year I had to stop the program I was in due to a stupid pre-existing condition clause. I had BCBS of AL then. They required everything you can think of. I got lucky though my husband's work changed to United Healthcare this year and they don't require hardly anything, you have to be over 18, BMI of 40 or higher, and bariatric center of excellence. No diet or psych eval. I just got my approval yesterday and I am scheduled for June 25th and my pre-op is the 19th of June.

My insurance Co. called the doctor's office...
jtickle posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been fun all week waiting for my surgeon's office to submit my info that has been ready for two weeks. I was told yesterday that it would be submitted before the end of the day. So I called the insurance company this morning to see if it had been sent in. Of course, it hadn't. The insurance rep wanted to know what the hold up was, so she called the doctor's office herself. Now I am waiting for the insurance coordinator to call me with reference number to my case. I hope I have approval process that isn't to long. Now that I have annoyed the heck out of the doctor's office. -

jtickle replied to jtickle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Actually I was booked for a RNY yesterday to be done on June 25th and my pre-op is June 19th. The waiting isn't the most fun, especially when they take forever to send it to insurance. -
After waiting nearly three weeks for my surgeon's office to submit my info to insurance, the day has come. My info was submitted to insurance today. Now I get the satisfaction of knowing how stressful waiting on the insurance company to do there job is. With my list of comorbidities, I don't see how I could be denied, but I am sure it happens. I hope everyone else has a stress free wait and I hope we all get approved!!!

I was approved today. I could of had a May date but I have to take care of a financial matter before surgery. So, I have been booked for June 25th. Seems kinda far away right now, but it gives me enough time to get things squared away and my husband will have enough time to schedule a couple days off from work. I am a little bit nervous, I have had six back surgeries, but never a stomach surgery. This surgery will be a whole new game for me. Glad your tests came back good. Good luck with your appointment on the 2nd.
