    June 16th!

Insurance companies have to have a date of service to process your file. When I called the insurance company to check on the status of my case they told me that proposed date was May 6th. When I was approved my surgery was scheduled for June 25th.
  3. Congrats!!! My surgery is in June too. Mine is the 25th. I am so excited!!!

    June 2014 Dates!?

At the seminar I went to, the surgeon did mention gallbladder issues from the rapid weight loss due to WLS. He did say it was fairly common. It is even mentioned in my handbook. He doesn't prescribe anything for gallbladder issues like some of the member's surgeons do. Honestly I kinda wish they would take it out when they do my bypass. I have had 6 surgeries on my back and I really don't want to have multiple surgeries on abdominal region.

    June 2014 Dates!?

My handbook doesn't say anything about meds for gallstones. I am going to check into this at my pre-op.

    June 2014 Dates!?

I have been on a diet similar to my pre-op diet since March 10th. The only difference is the amount of calories I can take in. I am not afraid of the pre-op diet. I have read where people have a fatty liver and the surgeon will just close you up if they run into that. I know since I am following my diet, that the chances of this happening are slim. I do worry about it though.

    June 2014 Dates!?

I have been checking my blood sugar all week and it has come down a hundred points. It's still high but it's not over 250 fasting in the morning, like it has been. All week its been hovering around 150-160. I am wondering what my A1c is now. The last time it was checked it was 9.8.

    June 2014 Dates!?

I'm not having my gallbladder out. I do understand the whole not buying clothing thing. In February I made the mistake of buying some new clothes. I took advantage of some very good bra sales from Lane Bryant. I have 15 of them. I have no idea what I am going to do with them after they are to big. Can bras even be donated to the goodwill or place like that? I had planned on donating my clothing that become to big. I am glad I kept most of my clothes that are to small. I will be a little bit outdated, it's better than having to a new wardrobe every month.

I agree. It doesn't make much sense to have to go back in a few months after such a major surgery to remove the gallbladder. I think I am going to ask my surgeon about that at my pre-op.

    June 2014 Dates!?

I know how you feel. I have been eating really healthy for the last month. I talking a protein shake for breakfast and lunch. For dinner I have been eating a half cup of whole grains, a half cup of veggies, and 3oz of protein. My husband and I decided to go out to dinner the other night and I got so sick afterwards. I am pretty sure it was heavier meal that made me sick. I know I don't want to feel that way again.

    June 2014 Dates!?

My surgeon has had me on a diet similar to my pre-op diet since March 3rd. I refer to as the diet from hell. It is the hardest thing ever to stick to. I fallen off of it many a time, but I just keep going. I have managed to lose 17 pounds. One of the things that keeps me going is the letter I got with my pre-op paperwork. It states that if I gain weight before surgery, that it will be canceled. That will put the fear in you. I don't want to risk gaining or having a fatty liver. I definitely don't want my surgery canceled. I'm one of the lucky people who had very few requirements to get approved. I didn't have a waiting period or psych evaluation in my requirements. I feel very fortunate, because I know many of you have had to wait forever to get a date. Anyway, your pre-op diet will be difficult but it has a major reward in the end. I know you will be able to do it.

    Batiatric advantage protien ahake?

My surgeons office has a mandatory package you have to buy for 250.00. It consists of 4 containers of bariatric advantage or celebrate protein shakes. It also has all the calcium and vitamins you need to get started with a 3 month supply.

    MEDICARE/MEDICAID

Medicare pays 80% of WLS. You have to do a six month diet. You also have to meet some other criteria. All you will have to pay is 20%.

    Psych Eval?

Some doctors do have you go to multiple sessions before surgery. My surgeon will if he feels that a patient needs a bit of counseling beforehand.

    June 2014 Dates!?

No need to be freaked out about the pre-op diet. It is there to help your liver shrink, so it will be manageable during surgery. How long is your pre-op diet? Mine is only one week. I get 3 protein shakes a day and a lean cuisine or smart ones for dinner. Seems doable. Do you have an all liquid diet? I am not looking forward to the last day of my pre-op diet, all clear liquids and a bottle of magnesium citrate. That stuff is so gross. It may not be pleasant, but it is one of the most important diets we will ever be on.

    June 2014 Dates!?

I'm doing a happy dance this morning. I have been stuck at 310 for 3 weeks. I got on the scale this morning and I finally broke that 310 curse. I am 309. I know it sounds silly but I have set a little before surgery goal for myself. I'm planning on being less than 300 on the day of my surgery. It's not an unreasonable goal.

    June 2014 Dates!?

I went thru a similar food funeral phase. Then I got my preop paperwork in the mail and it clearly states if you gain any weight before surgery, that it will be canceled. That will put the fear in you. Plus I have heard of doctors opening a person up, seeing a fatty liver, and then closing you back up without completing surgery. I don't want that to happen to me. My surgery is still 6 weeks away but I don't want to take any risks. I was put on their pre-op diet back in March, when I started the process. They did this because I did not have to go thru the 6 month diet ordeal. Yeah, the diet sucks and I have fallen off of it a few times but I keep on going. Good luck with your upcoming surgery!!!!

I too, have United Healthcare. Got my approval in a week. They also told me 30 days. I did call them everyday too. I didn't call the number on the back of the card. I was given the number for clinical services intake department before my last back surgery. They have more info.
