  1. Hi all! I was banded on Jan. 14, and I was able to start mushies yesterday (Jan. 19). I think I have been on liquids for so long that I am taking the pureed food diet to an extreme, and I want to make sure I'm not doing anything bad. I've read so many threads, and some people talk about having things under soft foods that I thought I could have this week (like scrambled eggs or noodles). I am basically thinking anything I can put in the blender and puree is fair game at this point. I just pureed a small bowl of macaroni and cheese for dinner, and ohmygod, it was so freaking good!!! I really have been trying to stick with healthy foods, but tonight, I just wanted something with a little more substance. Other things I bought to puree are vegetable beef Soup, canned chicken with cream o'chick soup and mushrooms, turkey chili (with added steamed veggies), refried Beans and salsa, tuna salad, egg salad, pudding, peaches, bananas, cream of wheat/oatmeal. Are these things all okay? Or are pureed foods supposed to be things like yogurt, applesauce, and soup? What is everyone else doing for their mushies?
  2. You all have helped so much! The last couple of days, the refried Beans have become my friend. I know they have a lot of carbs, but at least it is a step in the right direction. Topped with my favorite salsa, it satisfies my Mexican food craving. I have a full week left for purees before I can move onto soft soft foods. I am looking forward to having an omelet and some fish! This has been a great group for me so far. It helps so much knowing I have people to go to!
  3. I had my surgery yesterday (January 14). I am doing great on pain, but I cannot burp. Has anyone else had this? It is driving me crazy!! Otherwise, the surgery was great. The only pain I'm really having is gas pain in the left side and left shoulder, and a sore throat from the breathing tube. I am taking Gas-X, but I would love to be able to have one giant Elf-sized burp! Is this normal? Is there anything you can do to make yourself burp? How long should it take post-op?
  4. I had my surgery yesterday (January 14). I am doing great on pain, but I am having one big problem - I cannot burp. Has anyone else had this? It is driving me nuts! Otherwise, the surgery was great. The only pain I'm really having is gas pain in the left side and left shoulder, and a sore throat from the breathing tube. I am taking Gas-X, but I would love to be able to have one big burp.
  5. Turquoisekaty, thanks for the tip of mixing instant coffee with your shakes. That is a GREAT idea! My surgery is on the 14th, and I've been on the protein shakes for a week now. I am really missing my Starbucks!! Carriekos, My doc told me to get either Premier Protein shakes or Bariatric Advantage. I got the Premier Protein shakes at Costco, and they're good, so I haven't tried Bariatric Advantage. My doctor lets me have sherbet in the preop diet, so what I've been doing is mixing a little orange sherbet with the vanilla shake. It tastes like a Creamsicle! So good!!
  6. Hi Rosie! Sounds like we are in the same boat. I weighed 300.5 last week, but I'm already down 6 1/2 pounds just from the preop diet. I get two protein shakes a day plus a light meal for dinner. What I did yesterday that seemed to work well was blend a protein shake with yogurt, fruit and ice. That makes so much that you can split one shake into two servings, so it's like you're getting 4 shakes a day instead of just two. I'm just trying to do whatever I can to feel satisfied. Surgery is one week from tomorrow!!
  7. It sounds like we are in the same boat. My surgery is scheduled for January 14, and I am on the pre-op diet now. My doc is having me do two protein shakes a day and a light dinner. Snacks are just things like Jello, broth, popsicles, etc. It has been really hard for me so far. I thought I was lucky because at least I get one meal a day, but I still get so so hungry. I had a spoonful of peanut butter today. Of course, then I freak out and worry that I'll show up for my surgery and they'll turn me away. This is my fourth day on the pre-op diet and I've lost 5 pounds, so that is good.
  8. Hi everyone! I'm new here! My surgery is on January 14, 2014! I'm on the pre-op diet now. My doc has me do protein shakes for breakfast and lunch, but I can have a lowfat dinner. Even with a small meal at dinner, I still feel like I'm starving! I didn't expect the pre-op diet to be this difficult. I drink the Premier Protein shakes. I bought them at Costco. The vanilla are my favorite.
