  1. Hello! I had my first day or food today. I had 1/2 an egg (w 1/2 slice of low fat American cheese mixed in), cottage cheese (used a tiny bit of SF blueberry jam in it) and a few bites of wonton soup w shrimp in it. I was only able to get 1/2 a protein shake in this morning as I am hating every second of them. Although I know I didn't get nearly enough protein in i finally feel human!!!!! My question is did anyone struggle with getting in enough protein once they went to food? Will this slow my weight loss down? Any help would be great. Oh how mice to be back on this side of the fence and chewing again!

    First day of food...

Thanks guys. I know that I am supposed to be drinking the damn shakes but ugh, they take forever to get down and I really hate them! Oh well I guess it's just part of the process. A part of me feels like if I feel so good w just food than why bother? I guess that will be a question for my NUT or dr on the next visit. Thanks for all of the support and comments, it's great to have other peoples perspective. :-)

----hi Jaime I'm exactly 4 weeks out today; surgery was 12.12 Struggling with Hernia repair recovery and scared to really try more soft solids such as tuna and grilled fish or even eggs I tried thinned out oatmeal at one week out and it literally sat in my chest like a bag of sand -- and that was only one tablespoon that took me 45 minutes to get through My doc prescribed me carafate about 2 weeks ago to help with the pulsing pain and pressure so things have gotten Better but I'm still nervous. I'm going to try egg whites this weekend in the comfort of my home and see how it goes I'm getting in more Protein shakes and Water these days which is giving me more energy --- I was super super weak for the majority of the past 4 weeks I think I'm stalled at 210.4 now -- been here since Monday jan 6 after a streak of coming down a pound or so a day Started losing weight on my own in oct 2013 -- from 260 to about 237 Then surgery on 12.12 and now steady at 210.4 after 4 weeks -- I'm 5'7" My ultimate goal is to maintain 165-170 so time will tell; I think it's realistic with all the carb and sweet restrictions and of course our automatic portion control device dde09 I plan to start spin classes in a few weeks depending on how I feel -- I loved spinning prior to vsg and miss it dearly So where are you now? How's recovery? I was still pretty miserable at 2 weeks out; was even hospitalized for dehydration on day 11 and just came over a bout of painful constipation (TMI but I wouldn't wish that on anyone) Be sure to Stay hydrated!!!! Wow, sounds like you have been through a lot over the last 4 weeks. I too had 2 hernia repairs but my recovery has been pretty easy. My main complaint is that I HATE drinking the Protein Shakes and wish I could move into regular foods soon. I started at 220 and am now at 206, the scale hasn't moved since Wednesday so hopefully that will come soon. I was able to get the most amount of protein and liquids in today so I am happy about that. As happy as I am it also makes me think if it only took 2 weeks to be able to drink more I am sure I will be able to eat more too. I know this is a tool but I have read a lot of people saying that everything is going slow and it's a bit discouraging. I guess I will have to wait and see. Good luck to you - I also hope to get back on my spinning bike, I miss it greatly but want to be ready when I walk back into the studio!Keep I touch! Feel good.

------- YES!!!! Lol I was having lots of doubts especially since I was able to lose a good 23 pounds in less than 2 months prior to surgery doing what my NUT recommended and keeping my body active ... I even had dreams that the staple gun malfunctioned inside me during surgery and woke up panicking; also my moms negativity wasn't helping either In the end I just had to get real with my weight loss struggles for the past 18 years really -- was born chubby but really only made an effort to Try and change in my teens and its been yoyo city ever since (I'm 31 now) From 180 to 215 From 215 to 180 From 180 to 293 From 293 to 199 From 199 to 260 Bad bad bad I really really needed more restriction long term and I didn't want to live the rest of my life yo-yoing My addiction to sweets and carbs was getting out of control and although surgery won't cure that for me I really don't want To have gone through all this for nothing -- it also helps that I don't feel any hunger even at 4 weeks out Surgery is risky and drastic and permanent but at the same time if you have a reputable surgeon from a center of excellence then I believe the concerns should be far and few in between Statistically most people (over 90%) who have lost over 50 pounds or more without WLS wont be able to keep it off on their own after a few years or so -- not to discourage anyone but those are the stats -- we can all do what we set out minds to do Best of luck to you during this time! Hi Sandy, where are you now in your journey? What weight did u start at (and when) and where are you now? You numbers are almost identical as my history and now that I am almost 2 weeks out I still wonder if I will ever get lower than 170. Just curious to hear where you are now. ???? thanks!

    You look AWESOME!
  7. Good afternoon. Well I am 10 days out and really struggling with being on the liquid diet. I feel much better and the thought of waiting another 12 days until I can eat soft foods is KILLING me!!! Has anyone else struggled with this? Please send your suggestions or experiences. Protein shakes, jello, SF Popsicles and crystal light are getting old. Please help. Thanks.

    Mind hunger...

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Trying to keep my eye on the prize but feeding 3 kids and a husband makes it super hard. My husband is very helpful but it is still just so hard. I'm not hungry yet want to grab a handful of ANYTHING or a bite of SOMETHING. Hopefully after this phase life will become somewhat easier and I will be a bit less moody!!
  9. You look awesome! I am same start weight as you guys too. I am planning on it taking a while but hopefully that will help my head along with the process. The faster it goes could result in old habits coming back. I can hardly get in my 40 oz of liquid yet was feeding my kids Breakfast, lunch, dinner and Snacks all day and was day dreaming about a handful of cheese-it's or a bite of their pizza or chicken....got lots to work on from now to forever! Thanks for the inspiration, can't wait to be 150!!!! ????????????
  10. Have you tried the unjury protein chicken soup? A lot of people can tolerate warm savory drinks better than cold sweet drinks, particularly thick cold sweet drinks. Other possibilities: protein enriched soups: http://www.nashuanutrition.com/store/hot-soups/ hot chocolate or cappuccino: http://www.nashuanutrition.com/store/hot-drinks/ When I was on full liquids I did some other stuff like: --cup of hot chai tea with a half scoop of vanilla protein powder stirred in --cup of hot beef bouillon with a half scoop of unflavored protein powder and some steak seasoning --cup of hot coffee (decaf per my instructions) with a half scoop of chocolate protein powder stirred in When you stir in regular protein powder to a hot drink, you need to use a food thermometer to make sure the hot drink is not over 130 degrees or the protein will clump. For protein drinks/soups that are intended to be consumed hot, the usual rule is they can be over 130 but not boiling. Good luck! Thank you! I am feeling human again today and actually got down a good portion of protein today! Tomorrow is post op apt, can't wait to hear what they say! Big plans for 2014. Thanks for the support!!!!!
  11. Thanks for the encouragement. Did you have a difficult time w protein shakes?
  12. I am 5 days out and can't get my protein in let alone my fluids. I don't know what to do...but I need to figure out a way to get my protein in. The shakes are revolting to me and make me sick to even smell. And suggestions?
  13. I am wondering if anyone else feels progressively worse as the day goes on. I started off feeling pretty good and have already had to take a nausea pill. I am struggling. Need some feedback to see if this is a common complaint and struggle 5 days post op.
  14. Well, after writing that last night I woke up feeling better. I am about to start on my protein shake and will keep everyone posted. I can tell that time will def be on my side...I will be in touch this afternoon.
  15. Hi. I just joined today. I am 4 days post op. My surgeon says I should be getting in at least 40 oz or liquid including protein. That seems impossible. I have terrible cramps and it hurts going down. I have tried changing the temps and warm is def easier but it's just so hard. I also can't to the g2 everything tastes so sweet to me. I an nervous about dehydration and having a really hard time. Advise?
