anemia with iron deficiency
finally on my way posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello, I had my sleeve done 12/26/14 and it has been a wonderful gift in my life! I have lost 123lbs and have been able to stay within a 4 pound range. I am now having my first negative side affect. I have anemia with low Iron and ferritin levels. I am finding with research that this is a side affect for bariatric surgery patients. I am able to eat mmeats and other iron rich foods just fine so a bit puzzled as to why this quite large deficiency has occured. A surprise to say the least. All other labs are great. Looking for input and advice from any one else who has had this same issue. Will be starting a good dose of an iron suppliment. Hope I can tolerate the supliments ok. Thank you in advance! -
Anyone with migraines
finally on my way replied to Georgia Pritchett's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I to have had horrible migraines. I suffered since about the age of 8-9 years old. I am so happy to report that since my surgery on 12/26/13, I have not had 1. Amazing.. Better then I could of hooped for to be honest. I was Having 2-3 a month pre -op & had a horrible one during my 3 days of clear liquids just before my surgery. It was more then I could stand & luckily my surgeon allowed me to take some meds to control the pain in that very critical time. That was the last one I had. Such a wonderful break from them. I know it is very likely that I will have them time to time but this has made me feel very hopeful that they will much less in frequency. Another reason I love & am grateful for my sleeve! I Hope it gets better for you as well! -

December 2013 Sleevers Come In!
finally on my way replied to AtlantaRed's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi, I was sleeved 12/26 & I also had a stall for 3 weeks. I tried not to let it get me down. No way around it being frustrating & a bit scary...Kept up my program & listened to my body. 1 week I craved carbs like I have not experienced since surgery. I allowed my self a bit more, the following week total opposite protein, protein & more protein. Happy to report at my weekly weigh in this morning I had movement again. 4.5 lbs down this week & ready to put the stall behind me. I am sure it may happen again, but all we can do is give it our all! Congrats on your terrific progress & try not to get down. It will pass & your goal is getting ever closer ;o) -

Awesome Sandi! I can relate to many of the things you said. I to am getting a lot of comments and compliments. At many times it can actually make me feel self conscious.. I hear people talk about weight & those who battle it. It is sad how people judge. I am the same person I was 83lbs ago. Just healthier & happier. It is crazy how people treat you differently just due to size... Keep up the great work & rock your size 10 ;o) -

Hi, I had my surgery at St. Josephs in Denver. There were times that I did get scared pre-op but I was so tired of weight robbing me of joy. I just kept thinking I did not want any more years to go by & wished I would of received this great tool when I had the chance. I am the type of person that if I don't feel comfortable I don't do it. It made me sick to think I would miss out on great experiences with my kids & family because I was self conscious. I did not want to end up with health problems as I got older. I have fought weight from the age of 8-9 so I was just literally done! That is what kept me focused. My recovery was so smooth. No nausea, minimal soreness and was able to progress back into healthy eating very easily. So glad I did it and so glad the surgery is behind me lol. I think you will do well with already having experienced the band & been through that recovery. It is nerve wracking no matter what, our babies make it a bit more heavy on the heart but in the long run we will be healthier happier Mommas because of it! On a side note, if it helps it has been freezing here for the last week or so. Just think when you get back you will be feeling good ready to enjoy beautiful Colorado ;o) Take care & I will talk to you soon -

They are so helpful to me and often make me smile. Wondering if anyone has come across any great items to add to our much needed protein intake. Enjoying my premier protein shakes, lean meats and beans. Always wanting more ideas to add into my diet. Thank you so much in advance Congratulations to you all ;o) -

I think that monthly will be my approach as well! My 1month anniversary is this next Thursday. I am only weighing my self on Thursdays. The addition of measurements is a great idea & I will be sure to do it. Would mentally be helpful if a stall occurs on the scale with numbers. Great idea Thanks ;o) -
Hi, just a thought. My surgeon (a female) specifically told me in a pre-op appointment that she we would not put an incision in my bra line or in my waist line. I had not thought of this myself, BUT so extremely helpful post-op. I was able to put my bra on as quickly as I wanted & it never rubbed the incision. This allowed for very quick healing. So grateful for her thoughtfulness in that regard. Mention to your surgeon how important it is to you to be able to wear your bra pronto post-op so hopefully your upper incision can be placed below your bra line. We all tend to have a bit a mark on our skin from the years of wearing our bras so it is not hard for the surgeon to see that. I even tightened mine up a notch the morning of surgery so she would have a very clear line to go off of lol. I was able to wear mine no problem from the get go post op.

Everything you said is exactly why I went forward with the surgery. To feel the same on the outside as I do on the inside. Number one priority, to enjoy life to the fullest with my munchkins & hubby. To remain healthy physically and emotionally! You keep rockin' it out !!! Thank you for being a inspiration & positive voice! -

SO AWESOME!!!!!!! Thank you for sharing, it is so inspiring. You look terrific and I bet feel even better! I am 3 wekks out and still have the thoughts of "is it real, is it possible?'' Seeing stories like yours is so wonderful. Congrats on all your life changes and hard work. So great for you and your family -
Sorry to say I don't think so. I was not able to. I think it would be in the way of the tools and the bacteria germ issue. They even had me do a series of special soap washes (pretty orange stuff) the day before surgey and the morning of on my belly. It killed all skin bacteria. I was also instructed to only put on clothing that had just been washed. The hospital gowns were actually really big so for once the goods were all covered, front and back lol.

Hosted friends for dinner for the fist time since surgery. It went great!
finally on my way posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Excited to feel normal in a social situation! Before VSG I loved hosting & spending time with friends. Like for many of us that involves food and often drinks. A big fear for me was that these get togethers would be forever changed not in a great way. Happy to report I took a turn hosting at my home and it went great! Bonus to hosting you pick the menu. I am doing well and can have chicken no problem soooo, I served chicken tacos. Hubby stripped up moist rotisserie chicken, had cheese, avacado, fresh pico, yummy salsas and corn torts (soft &fried). I had all my guests make up their plates and as they began to enjoy, I got a small bowl that I use for my kiddos. Stuck with the items that I knew sat well with me & would be great healthy choices. Number one my protien. Soft moist chicken, added in some cheese, small slice of avacado and a green salsa on top (to scared to try the raw ingredients in the pico yet). My friends and family were enjoying and conversing as normal. I sat down, ate slowly, enjoyed all the convo and had no questions about my small portion or why are you not eating this or that. At the end of the night it really felt good! So great to see through some of my fears of pre-op. Life does go on in the same great ways but for us who have had this battle of weight it only gets better! -
Omg Yopa is the best! 18 gr protein too
finally on my way replied to XXShelXX's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Nice, thanks for the suggestion! I have really enjoyed siggis plain. Add a little unsweatend cocoa powder and slenda. Whips up like a chocolate mouse. Great protien (15 grams protien) & little sugar (4grams). That is for the entire container but I can only do half & full. So love any good high protien yummy finds ;o) Hope your still doing great XXShelXX
