  1. I haven't had any issues but I also haven't tried to cancel. I love planet fitness. I got 3-5 days a week. I'm kind of surprised at what some of you all are saying. My location has quite a bit of free weights, weight machines, benches and squat racks. I didn't realize that wasn't the norm.
  2. 6 months. Right at 100lbs. Actually this pic was almost 2 years before my surgery and I lost about 20lbs before so it's actually about 120lbs between the two.
  3. I can tell a big difference. Congrats girl! It's harder to see it in yourself. It seems like what I see in the mirror doesn't change as much as what the scale says but sometimes I catch a glimpse of myself from a certain angle and think, "holy crap, that's me"

    Shoe size?

I went from a 12wide to a standard 11 or an 11 wide in some styles.
  5. Could your mom maybe help out for the first few days? It will be a lot easier if you don't have a drain. The drain wasn't that bad, but it just made it harder getting up and down and showering. My husband took a week off and was home with me the 1st 4 days I was home. but I was fine when he went back to work. You will at the very least need help getting to your first preop appointment although I suppose you could take a cab.

How many weeks did you take off?

I could have gone back at 2 if I had to, but I would have been pretty uncomfortable. Make sure you have some liquid Tylenol with you to sip on. I actually just happened to get lucky, and for 6 weeks off.
  7. Oh I'm having this issue with my shoulders. They are numb and I pins and needles. Glad to know I'm not alone. I've been going to the chiropractor and getting some physical therapy which has helped some.
  8. A lot of friends who had surgery have told me they have the same issue. I had a lot of junk in the truck so it hasn't been as much of an issue for me, but I still happens sometimes.
  9. Mine isn't so much achey as they are sensitive to the touch. I can't sleep on my sides now because my knees poke together and my collar bones are so sore if I push on them. Puts a slight damper on the "ride a roller coaster" nsv. I've been sick the last few days and everything was achey. Way more than it's ever been in my entire life. I would rather of had surgery again than go through what I went through Wednesday night. My entire body hurt from my head to my knees. I thought I had the flu for sure, but it's just a sinus infection. I broke out in a rash after I started antibiotics and my heart has been doing weird things. I get sinus infections 3-4 times a year and usually get through it without a doctors visit. At the least I'll get a few days into it before I go, but I had to go immediately this time. I don't know if my immune system is still compromised or what but it's been a rough few days. My heart was fine btw and they have no idea what the rash is from.

    Gained 1 pound

Yup, it happens. Could be that you're getting more fluids in. Don't stress about it. You're going to lose weight like crazy, then stall, and then maybe gain a pound. It's all part of the journey. At the point now, if I loose a few lbs over night, I know at least one or two will be back the next day if I hydrate myself well. I lost 8lbs almost over night from being sick and not being able to eat or drink but I got a lot more in yesterday and I know when I go weigh today half of that will probably have come back. But I'm not going to stress about it. I know that's easier said than done, it took me a long time to get to that point but you can't let that number on the scale drive you crazy. As long as you're doing what you're suppose to, it's going to come off.

NSV: Everything I wear must go!

I agree with winning. I had a closet full of skinny clothes from a friend and I didn't get to wear most of them long because I thought "oh that won't fit yet." Try stuff on frequently.

    Alcohol

My NUT was kind of judgey and acted like you were an alcoholic if you ever wanted to drink again. I waited 3 months. I'm 6 months out now and I'll have a couple of drinks a month. Usually wine or sometimes beer that I let fizz out for a bit. I do get drunk super fast and also sober up super fast. I never get sick and I don't get a headache or anything. You're basically going to have to learn to drink again. I just pace myself.

    My Story

Hey Debbie. Congrats on starting the process. I'm six most post op. Dr. Hodge did my surgery but I've had serval friends that used Watson and i saw Watson in the hospital. Don't find a lot of locals around here. I really liked both of them and their practice. They are both excellent surgeons. I will tell you up until just before I had my surgery that had a nurse practitioner who handled everything, all your preop appointments, all your questions ECT. Since she left they've been a little bit disorganized and Dr Watson and Dr Hodge haven't seemed to really take over everything she did do you may have to push a bit if you have questions. I was ok with that because excellent surgical ability is more important that beside manner to me. If your insurance requirement is that you lose the 10% he want schedule you until your insurance approved it so you'll have to lose the rest first. At your final appointment they'll go over everything and send it off for insurance approval it will take a couple of weeks to get the approval and then they can schedule the date after that. You should have no problem getting it by the end of the year. They offered me a date 10 days after my approval came back. If you have any other questions feel free to ask or private message me.

2012 to today. And yes, I actually completed my first walk. I couldn't run it, it was 4.5 miles uphill, but I did it!

    How about some NSVs!?!?

Helped a friend move last night, walked about 5 miles this morning for the opening of a local rail to trail, and the helped my dad move this afternoon. I'm tired and sore, but I seriously can't imagine being able to do this much 6 months ago.

So my energy levels have been good but I've been having almost like cramps in my shoulders. They're always tense and I have some numbness and tingling. Anyone having this issue? I've been going to the chiropractor to see if that helps some. I got my 6 month blood work back today, and it wasn't great. Let's just say I haven't done a great job remembering to take my vitamins. So I went and bought some new ones, and got a bottle to keep in my desk and some to keep in my purse and I'm going to do better. Hopefully that will also help with the shoulder issues. I've also been trying to up my fluid intake the past few days because I've been hungry all the time and it's seemed to help a lot.

    Shoe size

I was in a 12w or 13. I couldn't wear strappy shoes of any sort. Now I can fit into a regular 11 in most shoes and a 12 in sandals.

Late 20s/early 30s women who had RNY

You look really great. I hope I can get there. I have about 35lbs to be at goal weight but id really like to get 20-30lns past that.
  20. It annoys me honestly. I wish people would think before they speak. There are about 1500 people in my office. I've worked on several departments over the years, so I frequently notice people staring at me, it's usually someone I haven't seen in a while but it gets old. Having people you barely know or that you don't know ask you question about your body just gets old. The other day I saw my coworker I sit with pretty much checking me out and then he said very awkwardly "you're so skinny now." This is the same guy that once told me I looked pregnant in a photo. It hard because I still don't see myself that way. In the end, I decided to just take this one as a compliment because I know he's a bit of a ditz sometimes. I think it's going to take some time for me to see myself as being smaller. In my head I know it, I don't worry about being the fat girl everywhere I go, but I don't see it in the mirror.

How do you shop for a rapidly changing weight?

I forgot about shoes sizes. Most of my shoes are too big on me now. I went from a 12w-13 at my heaviest to a standard 11 now. Ring size from 12.5 to a 9. I thought I would want to shop like crazy but it's actually be frustrating finding stuff I like that fits. I did buy two jackets today so I think I'm hitting my shopping phase now that fall is coming around.

How do you shop for a rapidly changing weight?

I did a lot of shopping before surgery and got a lot of clothes from a friend who had gained some weight. It did helped but not as much as I thought I would. Even if you buy the same jeans you're wearing now in a smaller size, they're aren't going to fit the same. The other issue I had is I let stuff sit in my closer and thought "oh there is no way that will fit me yet." And by the time I tried it on it was almost too big. So if you do this, try on everything on a regular basis. You may also skip right through sizes. I was in a 18 forever and the between a 16 and an 18 for a while but it seems like I was only in a 16 for a few days. Now I'm just about in a 14. If you can find stuff cheap and on sale, get it but I wouldn't spend too much money because you just don't know how it's going to work. One store that has been a surprise for me is forever 21. Granted their stuff won't be appropriate for everyone but it's my new go to for jeans and cardigans. I'm still in plus sizes there, I could probably fit into some straight sizes if I would just make myself try them on. But it's really cheap. I've bought 4 cardigans, 2 pairs of jeans, and a pair of leggings and not even spent $100.

Late 20s/early 30s women who had RNY

I'm 27. Married, no kids just puppies. I've lost over 100lbs so far and I've still got a ways to go. So far the loose skin is only really bad on my arms. I already hate if. I go to the gym 3-4 days a week. I've built up a bunch of muscle under there, but the underneath still has the hanging skin. I'll never be able to afford surgery to fix it, is I guess I'll just have to live with if. My tummy and boobs aren't that bad. My boobs haven't lost much weight at all and now they look huge compared to the rest of me. My thighs will probably be gross at some point but they're ok for now. So far everything else has pretty much been great, obviously I don't have to deal with dating but i been a lot more active and it's very nice. I'm doing a 4.3 mile walk next weekend and looking forward to running my first 5k soon. And even going out feels so much better, I don't just feel like the fat girl now. I'm almost 6 months out and have no regrets at this point.

Hey guys! Hope everyone is doing well. Can't believe we are coming up on six months. So I'm down to 215. I started my preop diet at 306 but that wasn't even close to my high weight. I was a 2x-3x 22/24 before and now I'm into medium and large tops and 16 bottoms. My 16s are starting to get loose on me. I don't have any issues eating, which sometimes I wish I did because I can pretty much eat whatever and sometimes I feel like I'm eating constantly. But I'm not eating junk constantly, and I try to focus on Protein, especially if I'm snacking. I go to the gym almost everyday before work too so i think that probably leads to me eating a bit more, but I'm burning those calories off.
