I've never really experienced dumping but if I eat something with too much sugar, I get reactive hypoglycemia. My blood sugar bottoms out quickly and i just feel crappy so I have to eat something to bring it back up. I try avoid this by limiting my sugar intake.

Starbucks...
Wallflower7522 replied to Marathongirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I get nonfat lattes once or twice a week. All that milk has some Protein and its a nice treat post gym If you like frappachinos, you can ask them to make it without base. Even the light frap base has a ton of carbs. With out base its just coffee, milk, ice, and syrup. It will change the texture some but it's still good. -
Walk walk walk walk walk I hated it at first. It took me almost 3 months to get into a routine. Now I go to the gym 4 days a week. But I still mostly just walk. I run some, and I do some weights. The skin thing just sucks. My arms are toned on top. I have serious muscle but I still have bat wings. Some people are lucky and snap back, I haven't yet but I'm sill proud of the guns.

Exercise questions
Wallflower7522 replied to esskay77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It took me 2.5 months to really start working out but now I go to the gym about 4 days a week. I get up between 5 and 530 and head straight to the gym. I get 60-90 minutes in. I try to get in at least 3.5 miles at the gym. It's hard to get up that early, it sucks. I don't always make it or push myself as hard as I should but I do it. No excuses. I usually don't eat anything before but one day at the gym my blood sugar dropped so low I almost blacked out. I had to drink a straight up not diet coke and I was afraid they were going to call an ambulance on me. Now I drink a preworkout drink. Most days I'll also have a few sips of a Protein drink and something with a few carbs just to keep my blood sugar up. If you want to work out that early here is how you do it. Have your stuff ready the night before. As soon as I wake up I turn on every light in the house, you'll need the light to wake you up. Then I start drinking my drink and get ready. Maybe listen to some music and I get out the door as quickly as possible. Once you get into a routine you'll get used to it. I tried working out in the cold but my lungs said other wise. We have a planet fitness so that is where I go. It's only $20 a month. -
If drank it my first few weeks out. I would just drink an ounce or two for a meal but I wouldn't drink it once you're able to get down more solid food.

I walked 41 miles last week. And today I got the treadmill up to 7 just for about 30 seconds lol. -
Does a gym REALLY make a difference vs working out at home?
Wallflower7522 replied to mi75's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Do whatever you'll do basically. If you can consistently work out at home, that's fine. I personally need the gym and that means getting up and going at 530 every morning. Get your routine set and stick to it. -
Looking for some Jawbone UP Friends

Hey I have one. My email is brooke1687@hotmail.com I think that's how you add people. I tried to find this thread a month ago and just missed it but add me if you can. -
I've had this for years. You're literally allergic to exercise. It sounds like a joke but it's not. I've found that certain fabric, activities, and temperatures make a difference but it's an allergy so I pop a zyrtec on my way to the gym every morning. That completely stops it. Any allergy medicine should work.

Any tips on avoiding loose skin.....?
Wallflower7522 replied to newxina's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm 27. My high weight was close to 340 but I was down to 306 when I had surgery but I had been over weight most of my life. I'm at 203 now. I go to the gym almost everyday and I'll be honest with you the loose skin sucks. My arms are the worst. I've lifted, toned, stretched, everything it doesn't help. I really don't like my arms so I pretty much keep them covered. I carried more weight in my arms and legs. My belly isn't terrible. I still have some weight to lose but I had a belly before so what I have now doesn't bother me. My legs have some loose skin, but they're not as bad as my arms as of now. I have read that wearing compression garment helps and I do kind of think that might be the case. I wear compression bottoms every morning at the gym and most of the time im wearing skinny jeans or leggings that are tight on my legs so I wonder if that's why my legs aren't as bad as my arm. Maybe I need to get some compression for my arms too. Even with the skin issue Id do it all over again in a heartbeat. I'm healthy now, I go to the gym at least 4 days a week, I did my first 5k, I've bought some awesome clothes and lost a shoe size and with clothes on the skin isn't really an issue. -
It doesn't. I believe you found me.

I crossed my legs today
Wallflower7522 replied to JustWatchMe's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
This was a huge deal for me. I was never ever able to sit with my legs cross. I started doing it as soon as I could. Even thought it was comfortable. Now I sit like that all the time just because I can. All my skinny coworkers sit with their legs crossed up in the chairs and I'm jealous, I can't wait till I can actually sit like that. -
I'm sorry you had a bad experience. This seems like an issue with your specific surgeon. If you can't get into contact with their office call your primary care doctor ASAP and see if they can refer you to another surgeon and take over your care in the mean time. I didn't realize until after my surgery that I had go take ulcer meds until after. What they prescribed me was like $300. I declined to buy them and instead went and got cheap otc omeprazol. My surgeon said that was fine as long as I was taking something. You obviously know you need to take something, so go get it. It's cheap and the pills are tiny.

When to start exercising
Wallflower7522 replied to carrion98's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
It took me a long time to start. I walked a little at first but not often because I was tried or it hurt. My surgery was March 3rd I really started hitting the gym in mid-may. I'm proud to say though I've been going 3-5 days a week since then though. It feels pretty great. -

There is a Trader Joes downtown. The Asheville Mall on tunnel road has old navy and a GNC. I'm pretty sure there is a vitamine shoppe too. One of my new fave places to eat is Moe's bbq near builtmore, not to be confused with Moe's cantina. Good luck, Asheville is a fairly large city so you should be able to find everything you need. There are tons of things to do. The Orange Peel is great if there is a show you wanna see, go to Chimney Rock if you have time, it's about 45 mins out of the city. Builtmore is good, but expensive. Even just walking around downtown is fun. -
You sound just like me. I'm struggling for real with finding clothes. It seems like I'm always between sizes. Right now I'm between a 12 and a 16 and tops are all over the place. I try to buy by what fits, not by size. But it's rough. Do you have a forever 21? I have to buy their plus size stuff still but it's been my go to for jeans, pants, and cardigans because it's cheap cheap. Like $10 for a pair of skinny jeans.

How about some NSVs!?!?
Wallflower7522 replied to shyanne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a friend. She that girl that you think "wow she's so tiny." She is brining me clothes now. She brought me a shirt today, it was too big for her to be fair, but I thought" this will not fit me." It totally fits me. I'm still about 40lbs from being as small as she is, but it's pretty amazing because I always thought "I'll never be that small" -
So I know losing weight helps with asthma for some people right? Well apparently I'm not one of those people. For starters, I didn't even realize I had asthma. But I've been struggling at the gym, I've tried couch to 5k and even though I'm in much better shape and my body can do way more, my lungs can't take more than about a minute of running. I've been very sick twice since June, both times after pretty intense bouts of physical activity and this last go around the doctor and nurse practitioner I saw diagnosed me with Asthma. Obviously I don't have it to the point I've ever needed a rescue inhaler for prolonged period of times since I'm just now getting a diagnosis but it's still something I'm going to have to deal with. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions for dealing with asthma and the gym? I'd still like to start running I just know I'm going to have to be careful and listen to my body. I'm not going to let this stop me from going to the gym, which I do 3-5 days a week and I'm going to push through.

Wallflower7522 replied to Wallflower7522's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Thanks everyone. I didn't have the flu. I got sick almost 3 weeks ago right after the walk I did. They thought it was a sinus infection but it turns out I actually have asthma. I've been trying so hard to work out since I fully recovered from surgery and I've been struggling with getting sick for a prolonged period twice and I just have trouble running for more than about 30 seconds at a time. Now I know why. But at least now I've got it figured out I can approach the gym knowing it's just going to take me longer than it would other people. I've just got to baby my lungs a bit.
