Packing for surgery... hints anyone?
Wallflower7522 replied to Wayne Hunt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's mostly what I took but I didn't use most of it. I wasn't aloud to take anything with me into preop, they took my clothes back to my husband. I took my iPad and headphones and never used them because I spent so much time sleeping. The only thing I really used was lip balm, my hair brush, tooth brush, and deodorant. -
Clothes and more clothes
Wallflower7522 replied to mcmedic13's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nope. I started weeks before my surgery. I got rid of almost everything that wasn't comfy post surgery clothes. The only problem is I don't have anything to wear now, I'm 4 weeks out and only down 1 size but I don't go back to work for two more weeks so I'm just going to deal with in then. I had way to many clothes so it felt good to have so much empty space in my closet. -
Bumpy Road but making progress
Wallflower7522 replied to queenie123's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My surgery was March 4th and I feel you 100%. I haven't had any real complications, but I have had some bad days and some good days. This weekend was rough, Friday I over did it and I ended up being in pain all weekend. My husband and I took a day trip Saturday and I couldn't find anything I could eat. (That's my fault do to poor planning) and yesterday I just felt blah. I thought id feel better this far out and some days I just want this to be over with. I want to go work out, but it's been so cold on the days I've felt up to it. But I know in a few more months or maybe even weeks it will all be worth it. We just have to push through the bad parts to get to the good parts. -
A couple questions: WLS Friendly Restaurants and Ice
Wallflower7522 replied to kespy74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My out to eat savior has been grilled chicken wraps from Wendy's and McDonalds. It's less than $2 and I just pull out the chicken. Mexican restaurants are easy because you can order Beans. Or if you go somewhere like chipotle or Moe's you can order a taco in a bowl with beans and chicken. I haven't really done a lot of sit down restaurants yet but almost everywhere serves some sort of grilled chicken or fish. My husband has been really good about ordering something I can eat and just letting me nibble on his food. I'm thirsty all the time too. My mouth is so dry and I have to put lip balm on like every 30 mins. I haven't tried sucking on ice though. I might have to try that. -
I got Ragu pizza sauce in a jar. 4 ounces has 5 carbs and 3 grams of sugar. I only use about an ounce, 4-5 pepperoni and a sprinkling of cheese.

How Long off work?
Wallflower7522 replied to ren0318's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a desk job too. I think I could have gone back in two if I absolutely had to but I think I would have been uncomfortable. At two weeks, and even now at 4, I wasn't comfortable sitting up for long periods of time. I got approved for 6 weeks off work by MetLife so that's what I'm taking. -
Just wish I could make a decision!

I had bypass recently and I personally think it's the way to go. My surgeon said he hasn't even done a lapband is over two years. One of my friends was a severe diabetic. Taking mass amounts of insulin everyday. He has bypass 3 years ago and hasn't hardly used insulin since. I know people that have gain weight back with both surgeries, you have to make a permanent life style change for either to work, but I think long term, especially with diabetes, bypass is the way to go. -
I'm on soft food now. I bought pizza sauce, turkey pepperoni, and low fat cheese. I just microwave it together in a bowl. I tried it on a tortilla but that was too much for my pouch.

first notices.. what is yours?
Wallflower7522 replied to loving.life's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is kind of a weird one, I'm only 4 weeks out, but the other day while I was waiting for the shower to warm up I was looking at my back in the mirror. I have a giant birthmark in the middle of my lower back and I could actually see it while looking over my shoulder in the mirror. I've never really tried to look for it before, but I'm pretty sure I couldn't actually see it before. -
Same thing happened to me. What I read about it is that your carb stores in your liver hold on to water so when you're doing your preop diet you're flushing out a lot of excess carbs and water.

Have you smoked or vaped e-cigarettes and not had complications post surgery?
Wallflower7522 replied to GemmaLicious's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Do you buy your stuff from a vape shop? Could you maybe lower your nicotine level to a smaller percentage? I have some friends that vape with out nicotine but most of them worked down in nicotine levels until they were nicotine free, you probably don't have time to so that. Best of luck to you. I was never a heavy smoker, but I quite a few years ago and I still want one sometimes. I know its a hard habit to break. I do have a couple of friends who had surgery and didn't stop smoking, they didn't have issues. -
Ugh I'm at day 25 and today was rough. I don't know if I just over did it this week or what. I didn't have a BM for a few days (sorry for TMI) I took something to help move things along and that worked, but I'm having pain on my lower left side and I've felt kind of sick to my stomach all day. I feel like I broke something inside. I went easy on eating today, I've only had some apple sauce, a few ounces of smoothie, and a soft scrambled egg. Hoping I'll feel better tomorrow.

I didn't have a recliner or money to buy one so I slept in a bed. The first two night I slept in the guest bed to keep my dogs away from me and then I moved to my own bed. I used lots and lots of pillows to kind of keep me propped up. I also bought a body pillow to lean on which has been very helpful even though I've had to fight my dogs to keep custody of it at night.

How about some NSVs!?!?
Wallflower7522 replied to shyanne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Actually I have two friends who have gone through so weight related journeys recently, one lost a bunch, one gained some so I got a bunch of their clothes. I have a ton of 14s and 16s and some 18s but not a lot of 20s because I was hoping I might not need them. I have a huge basket of clothes already to sell, but I'm waiting because I know I'll have more to add soon. I can't even imagine being a size 8! That's so awesome. My hubby wears a 32 which is about a 12/14. When I do laundry sometimes I just pick his jeans up and think "I can't believe I might actually have jeans this small at some point. -

Wallflower7522 replied to shyanne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bought a size 20 pair of jeans at old navy a few weeks before surgery. I was a 24 before surgery and I had a couple of 22s that I could squeeze into. I had tried them on before surgery and I couldn't pull them up all the way or button them. This morning I pulled them out of my closet. I told my husband I knew they wouldn't fit but I wanted to see how it compared to trying them on pre surgery. To my surprise they actually fit! I actually took them back and exchanged them for an 18 because I'm not going to wear them till I go back to work and that's not for a few more weeks. -
Oh ok. I understand. I've pretty much done the same thing. I've ate it once and haven't touched it since. I'm not big on protein shakes so I'm trying to do it mostly with food.
-
Are you not aloud to have oatmeal at all? It was on my soft/puréed foods list. I tried it about two weeks out, instant low sugar, with no issues.

Last time I went to 6 flags I wasn't able to ride the ones that pull down over your shoulders. My chest was just in the way. I could ride the ones that just had a lap bar. 6 flags also had the test seats out front so that was helpful. I weighed about 325 at the time, but I'm only 5'6.

Sugar Free Torani Syrup
Wallflower7522 replied to shmily's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've never seen it there. Do you have a restaurant supply store in your area? -
I have several white tattoos on my wrist and my forearm and I always get "what is that?" from the nurse taking my blood or blood pressure. I'm an astronomy buff so I have a bunch of stars, and an astronomy quote. In honor of my weight loss journey I'm considering getting a tattoo of the Mars rovers, Spirt and Opportunity. They were only suppose the run for 90 days when they landed in 2004. Spirt kept going for 6 years and Opportunity is still going today. I think it's a good metaphor and reminder to keep going even if everyone thinks you can't.

alternative to protein shake?
Wallflower7522 replied to tyt221b's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've started getting smoothies from Keva juice now. I get the piña colada flavor and they add 28 grams of protein. You can't even taste it. I just don't eat anything else with a lot of carbs or sugar the rest of the day and so far it's been fine. It has more calories and carbs than most of the protein drinks, but I'm still under 600 calories a day and that way I get enough protein. -
1 week post op!
Wallflower7522 replied to pupichupi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't have any bleeding but my biggest one did have a lot of scabbing and it felt very irritated. An ice pack helped me more than anything. -
Yeah it seems normal to me. I think once the swelling internally goes away you can fit a bit more in. I can get down two ounces in 15 mins now easily but it fills me up.

Thanks for the add! I can never get any of my friends to stick with MFP but I think it really helps.
