After my weight loss, my traditional port sticks out. It sometimes hurts when I am running. I am having a port revision and getting a new low profile flat port. Has anyone has this revision? If so, did you notice a big change from the traditional port? Was the surgery easier or the same as your original surgery? Anything else I should be aware of?

I am 5'7 and I was 247 when I was banded March 27th. I am now 205. I am also a slower loser but some of it IS MY FAULT. I haven't yet gotten over the mental aspect of food. I still LOVE food when I am happy, sad, stressed etc., but the band helps me keep it in check. I should have lost faster but I have a couple downfalls, maybe you have the same ones..... I do a great job eating monday - friday but I eat the foods I shouldn't on the weekends. I also haven't been working out. I really want to reach ONEderland so I need to get strict and recommit.

I lost 10 lbs pre-op and was banded on March 26th. I lost 12 more lbs in the first 2 weeks post op then hit a stand still. I stuck with the eating programs for the first 4 weeks then I started eating more as I had no restriction and was hungry. I am still eating significantly less than I was before the surgery but I am mostly maintaining my weight. I think it is due to a couple of things, I have been VERY constipated since surgery despite taking Myralax for the last 2 weeks and I can eat anything without restriction. I have my first fill tomorrow. Did anyone go from no restriction and a stand still in weight loss back to losing once you got your first fill? I want the band to feel tight, like is did when I was swollen the first couple weeks after surgery. I am totally bummed out as it seems like so many people are having much better results. I would love to hear if other people are going through the same thing or any insight from people who have had their first fills. Thanks!

Any other Dr. Trieu patients in here? Dr. Trieu did my surgery on March 26th. I have had a great experience with both him and the hospital. I had my first fill today. It went well, no pain. I thought it would be much worse. I am hoping my fill speeds up my weight loss. I am down 23 pounds including my preop weight loss but have been at a standstill the last 4 weeks. Anyone have any insight on how their weight changed following their first fills?

Thanks all for commiseration and the insight. I had the band tightening today and I definatley feel different. I will be on liquids for 48 hours after the fill. I have also been going to weight watchers. I am hoping the fill and the support from weight watchers will do the trick. I know it is a slow process but like most people I want instant success. Salsa, your weight loss and thoughts are really inspirational. I was 238 the day of surgery and 155 is my goal so it is great to see someone have your great success!!!

I am 10 days post op and my stomach is still very puffy from the gas used during surgery. How long did it take before the gas was all gone and your stomach was back to normal?

I am 34 years old and having lap band surgery at the end of the month. I am 5' 6" tall and have approximatley 85 pounds to lose and I am relatively athletic. I am really hoping not to have any hanging skin when I reach my goal but after reading many other stories that doesn't seem very realistic. Have any of you heard of any creams and lotions or other things that I could do throught my weight loss journey to reduce the amount of loose skin at the end??? Thanks for any insight you have!!

Lap-Band and Weight Watchers
katcap13 replied to Penelope's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am attending WW during pre-op. I am planning to continue going post-op but I have no intention on telling the group I have been banded. I don't think it is anyones business. I hear that doing WW or other programs can help you keep going, "keep your eye one the prize." Besides, I want to achieve the coveted LIFETIME MEMBER which I could never reach without the band. -
Anyone else scared of not being successful? I have been on so many diets and lost/regained too much weight in the past. I emotionally can't take disapointing myself again. I am so nervous that I won't be able to keep it together. Does anyone else worry about not being able to drink diet coke, or drinks in general with meals? Choosing the right foods? Reducing portions?

Thanks you summarized my thoughts perfectly (including the weight watchers comment). I am glad to know I am not alone. The statistics are on our side for a positive outcome. WE CAN DO IT!

I am in for a minimum commitment of 3x a week. I will try for 4 or 5x a week.

I am in the middle of the approval process for the band. I have done the research and understand the physics behind the band and why it works but I want to know why it REALLY works for people? Why you can stick with this more than your average diet especially people who may have been emotional eaters? I am 5'6 and I have dieted my way UP TO 245. I can stay on a diet and lose 20-30 lbs but I gain it back plus more and sometimes eat to the point of being uncomfortable. If you were in my same shoes how has the band helped you? I really want to commit to the band and make this work for me.

Thanks Chickie and Sue Magoo for your insight. I think if I can use the lap band as a tool to keep me honest I will stay on track. On past diets I will work hard for 3 weeks and lose some weight then gain it back in one weekend. If the lap band limits my portions and makes me sick or uncomfotable when I over eat I will learn my lesson fairly quickly. If it helps me get over a bad spell sooner and with less weight gain I think I will be sucessful.
