Sleeve Vs Bypass... How did you decide?
auntiemel replied to MrsB2007's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You can still get dumping syndrome. I am 2 weeks and 4 days out and if I eat something sweet, even applesauce, it can go right though me. Even peanut butter made me feel ill since it is high in fat. Each person is different and some with bypass can still eat candy and sugar and not be affected. -
Lap band vs gastric sleeve
auntiemel replied to hollisrn76's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my personal reasons why I chose the sleeve: 1. I am a volume eater! I may not be shoving Oreos and junk food down my throat, but I overeat, even the good stuff like fruits. 2. I am already anemic, have low Vitamin d and b12 levels, so I did not want to have issues with malabsorption. 3. The thought of having most of my stomach removed doesn't bother me, hut I get the eebie jeebies from the thought of having my intestines movers around. 4. I don't really eat a ton of sweets so the major possibility of dumping syndrome being a deterrent wasn't needed. 5. I also love to bake during the holidays! Like Graham Elliot, he chose the sleeve so he can still taste test what is being made. Like I said in #4, I don't eat a lot of sweets, but being more prone to dumping syndrome wouldn't be good for testing recipes. 6. My mom has a history of colitis and ulcers, and was hospitalized once and had to receive blood transfusions...that alone made me want to leave my intestines alone. 7. I have had migraines since childhood and NSAIDS help me. They can be used occasionally with sleeve (at least some docs ok it) and with bypass you can't take them at all. 8. With bypass you have a small pouch and your anatomy is changed and if something happens and a medic or doctor needs to scope you, the can perforate your pouch if they aren't advised you have had bypass. -

@@MariaW I absolutely love ice cold drinks and slushes still. I'm 2 weeks and 4 days out and drink both ice cold and hot beverages. -
And So Our Journey Begins...
auntiemel replied to MistyAnnMoon829's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm trying to blog mine...it does seem like a chore sometimes, but I've posted quite a bit adayinthesleevedlife.com I'm trying to hold myself accountable for my sleeve and how I'm utilizing it -
I can't say enough good things about PSSC and Dr. Landerholm. Even Bridget the ARNP was great! I read reviews that one gal didn't like her, but she was really nice!

I just looked at my insurance claim (yes I'm very lucky to have insurance) and the grand total for surgery done at Evergreen Hospital including anesthesia and pain meds was .... Drumroll please..... $24,787.50

Holy Expensive Surgery Batman!

Wait I see new charges for the docs! It says 20,000 for each of them? Crazy?!?!! -
How does your body react when you eat something your sleeve doesn't agree with yet?
auntiemel replied to _2juicy_'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Peanut butter was the first food that made me vomit post op. I was just eating a little tiny bit on its own, and my body rejected it. Oh how I used to love peanut butter -
Phase 3 post-op: mechanical/soft foods
auntiemel posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just started next phase...finally had a few bites of toast and scrambled eggs. I shared 1 egg with my niece and she ate most of it. I'm still weirded out by only being able to eat so little. It seems like unless I'm eating all the time, I will never get that much food in to sustain myself. I know it gets better, just so strange though. -
It also depends on how long it takes you to eat. Some people still eat fast, while others are eating slower. I really have to think about eating slow or I have a hard time.
-
I love PSSC! They rock! Really nice and they truly care about you.

Oh retried Beans with taco seasoning and melted cheese...where have you been my whole life lol... I never would have eaten plain retried beans before...but desperate times call for desperate measures hahaha I had a huge can of vegetarian retried beans so I mixed in a packet and a half of old El Paso Taco seasoning and warned it with a little cheese. So delicious

Anyone else try new foods and get sick and vomit afterwards. My goodness, I don't know if I ate too much or my tummy didn't agree, but I spent the last ten minutes or so with my head in the garbage can...

@@auntjanny I made the mistake of eating and drinking too close together and suffered awful nausea and vomiting! It's so hard! The other day my hubby said "you were watching the clock on drinking weren't you" when I began sipping my half water/half simply apple juice.

Thanks Proudgrammy! I always love everything you have to say! You keep the optimism going on this forum! Yeah for our sleeves and twoderland!!!!

Hey! I talked to my sister and she said if the bone is too fragile/thin to do implants in the normal way, you can get them implanted from the bottom of the bones which tend to be thicker.
-
Thanks! It is so weird, even with only a 2 lb loss in week 2, I have to think WOW! I'm under 300....woohoo! And in such a short amount of time
-
So I lost 10 pounds the first week and only 2 the second week. Is that pretty normal?
-
I'm still a newb at 2 weeks out, but I'm wondering, just how much can you eat later on? Say 3, 6, 9, and 12 months? I know when I took a few nibbles of scrambled eggs, I thought to myself "hmm I better not do anymore" I think I'm too scared to try and eat more if that makes sense. I don't want a leak or any other issue.
-
I shed a lot anyways, so I'm wondering if I will just shed more later on. My sister and I both have shedding issues, I guess thicker hair shed more? I have no idea. I take biotin daily as my nails have always just bent and broken off, I never notice much of a difference until now, and I had to stop them pre-op and can't take them until 10/3.

14 Day Optifast Liquid Diet
auntiemel replied to dtiller1147's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great job on pre-op diet and congrats on your future sleeve! I have watched so many in my family battle obesity and I ended up losing a few pounds and gaining back double over the years. My highest was 337 and I'm 5'4, so I'm like the girl on willy wonka that turns into a blueberry lol. I got down to 320 on supervised diet and that was a struggle! I lost another 10 on preop diet and last Monday at my weigh in I was 304! I haven't been this weight in years! You may have days where you wonder "what did I do to myself" but if you read on here, we all think that during the first few weeks! It really is making a huge difference in my relationship with food. Even though I am 2 weeks post op today, I no longer wake up wondering what I'm going to eat today, that behavior reminds me of my friend who wouldn't get out of bed before having a cigarette. Her life revolved around them, and my life revolves around food. It feels like the sleeve helped me break up with food lol. Now I only eat to get calories in and live! Eat to Live! -
SEPTEMBER 2014 POST-OP SLEEVERS CHECKING IN!
auntiemel replied to Rovobay's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My nieces and nephews love having burping contests with me even more. Now I'm constantly belching! I swear I swallow too much air when I drink out of a bottle but I'm fine when I used to use a straw...I can't wait to use straws again! -
Scar remedies

If the scars bother me too much later on I will probably just cover them with tats -
I need to lose 9lbs before my surgery HELP!
auntiemel replied to tinagatorfan79's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No problem! I look forward to keeping up on your journey. It's so exciting to compare with others...and I'm a huge hypochondriac so I'm on here constantly asking if this or that is normal ???? -
@@auntjanny I will mush my food when I eat it lol...no more blenders haha
