4 years post band removal and want sleeve!
missblonde20 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi all 4 years ago, I had a band slippage and emergency surgery. At the time, I was SO sick - I couldn't even drink Water. I was so skinny, I had low Vitamin D and I was very anemic. However, I was happy to see the band go and get back to eating well, without vomiting all the time. I had (and still have) a great diet, and since then, I have always watched my food intake and exercised. I had a baby 5 months ago, and now I am just feeling so fat and depressed. Even though I have eaten well and exercised, I've stacked on about 30 kilos since my band was taken out. I've seen doctors, natropaths, acupuncturists and endocronoligsts to try and find out WHY I am gaining weight - I just can't stop gaining and I CANNOT lose any. I have only lost 3 kilos since the baby.....I can't live like this. I am now overweight, BMI is 36 and I can't see my body recovering from my band and losing weight naturally. I think it's possibly done some type of metabolic damage? I think a sleeve is my only choice, and 4 years ago was told my stomach had no scarring etc. Do you think it'd be like the typical 'virgin sleeve' (someone who does not have any damage from the band) or would i still be classified as a higher risk patient? Need to call surgeon ASAP I think. -

Surgeon said revision's 50/50 failure!?

Thanks guys! He couldn't explain to me why people apparently cannot lose anything with the sleeve - he said it's a mystery basically. He says at conferences that he attends, other surgeons have the same experience with the 50/50 failure. I just cannot imagine having so much of my stomach removed and failing to lose weight? I eat a high Protein diet and love clean eating, plus I enjoy exercise! I would never just sit here and gorge on bad food with a sleeve!! -
Hi all It has been 4 years since my band was taken out and I've regained A LOT of weight, plus I've been pregnant and had a baby - so just really keen on the sleeve. Dr Wong has said 50% of band to sleevers do not lose any weight at all. Any thoughts?

Hehe, thanks guys! I think he is just warning me that my decision may not be as successful as I expect, and I get that...but he has a fantastic reputation and my own mum used him and looks great (but she never had the band). I am so ready to do it but wow, imagine doing it with NO results. Ahhh.

I am 20 and absolutely love going out clubbing. I am very serious about my weight loss and am possibly getting my surgery in November, I still haven't spoken to my surgeon yet, but I am booked in. I still want to go out clubbing and get drunk, as I love going out and am still very young...will I still be able to drink and get drunk? (I understand it may affect the weight loss) -
Hi all, I went to the lapband seminar last night, at Gosford (NSW) and I am really really keen to get the lapband, but I am the sort of person who just over thinks and analyses everything. I am 20 and after diet after diet failing, and my self-esteem being so low, I want to change my life. I am ready to to do this but am worried about the costs - as I am young and a student, I am just concerned that I will be hit with hidden/extra costs that will be too high for me to pay. My health insurance (I'm covered by my Dad until the end of this year) runs out and I just want to know if anyone has had to go and have another operation to fix the band (such as if you got an infection etc) and was the most you paid all up basically $3700?? Thanks:D
