    Pre op lbs lost

    How exciting! Good luck tomorrow!
  2. Honestly if I let myself think too much about it, I get terrified. However, doing nothing is killing me...just slowly. I've been all over the map emotionally and I think some of that is grief, knowing I'm going to have to give up food! I try very hard to focus on the positives and think about all the things I'll be able to do a year from now that I can't do currently. Then I get excited!
  3. That's awesome progress! If you lose the required amount in under 6 months, do you get to move to surgery sooner? Or do you just keep seeing how much you can lose in the six month period?

    Getting closer...

    Good luck!!

    Starting my journey...

I start my pre-op diet tomorrow for my surgery in two weeks so I can't really speak to that, other than I think mental preparedness is as important as anything else. Two weeks of mostly liquid is going to be difficult but I just have the mindset that I KNOW I can do it to improve my life. As far as telling other people, opinions vary. I've told all of my family and close friends because I see them (and eat with them) too often for them to notice and I don't feel comfortable lying to them about it. I was soooo worried but almost every one of them has been super supportive. Even my dad is coming around, and he wasn't mean or anything, just scared for me. Honestly most of my friends and family seem relieved that I am doing something about my weight. They've all seen me struggle over the years and are being so sweet and wanting to help so it's been great. I am NOT telling anyone in my office (except a friend who I also happen to work with) because I work in a very gossipy place and I don't want to be part of that. They've seen me trying to eat better of the last month or so and they know I'm focusing on my health so I'm hoping they will think it just kicked in. If anyone asks me directly, I will likely tell them because I am a horrible liar but I don't really see that happening. Good luck. The best thing I can say is do lots and lots and lots of research. The more you know, the more comfortable and prepared you will be.

That is a HUGE difference. Way to go!

    B12?

My surgeon is recommending a B12 sub-lingual once a week for energy, as the calories consumed will be so low. They also gave me a about a billion different Vitamin samples and the only ones that I could tolerate were the unjury Vitamins. I actually really like the soft chews (I can't remember if they were Unjury or Celebrate) but they said I can't have those for several months, so nasty chewables it is I guess. I've seen several people on here say they use Flintstone Complete but my surgeon said absolutely not so I guess that's out for me.

    The Dreaded Catheter!

I had one both times that I had my kiddos. It's not really a big deal and it doesn't hurt coming out. I mean, it's slightly uncomfortable but it's super fast. I never had any pain after either, except maybe a tiny bit of burning the first time I peed and that was it. I would imagine that they will take it out once you're fully awake and can get up and walk to the bathroom on your own. I promise you'll be fine. I get it though...I'm terrified of the freaking IV.

    March 19th :)

    Me too! I'm March 5th!
  10. My list of soups for full liquids says any strained creamed soups (cream of chicken, cream of shrimp, cream of potato).

i can eat more than I should

It looks like you are only about 4 weeks out from surgery? So are you still on purees? I've heard multiple times that some people can get more liquids/purees than they thought they would be but definitely felt restriction on solids.

    liquid diet

Nope. Appetite suppressants mess with your heart and your blood pressure and all kinds of other stuff and that's no good when undergoing major surgery with General Anastasia so we just have to push through. My pre-op diet starts Wednesday and I am not looking forward to it, to say the least. I just keep telling myself that I can do anything for 2 weeks!
  13. I've never been happier to be in Texas then last week with all the insane weather on the east coast. I'm in Houston, where are you?
  14. I'm actually exactly 2 weeks behind you. I start the dreaded pre-op diet in the 19th. Good luck on your surgery. I will likely be following your journey pretty closely since you're so close to mine. Maybe I won't be so apprehensive if I see someone a little ahead of me on the journey!
  15. I'm taking a week. I probably could get away with less but I would like to have some sort of comfort with my routine before I go back to work. I figure I can always go back early if I am feeling up to it but it's harder to take extra days.
  16. I'm March 5th. Three weeks to go!!
  17. I buy both Unjury and Syntrax nectar online!
  18. I personally like unjury and Syntrax nectar. Lots of people rave about Premier Protein.

    Alcohol...

My surgeon says none for six weeks and then to take it slow until you know how you will be effected. Apparently some people get flat drunk on one drink and others don't notice a difference. Of course, alcohol is empty calories so he cautions to save it for special occasions. I'm not a huge drinker but it is nice to know I will be able to have an occasional glass of wine.
  20. I'm in Texas and my insurance also has an exclusion but I have a hiatal hernia so my surgery is subsidized. My cash price is $8100. Without the hernia it would have been $12,500.
  21. There is a giant post about this at the top of the page and I spent most of the weekend going through it. Opinions vary. I'm bringing a pillow, chapstick, sturdy slippers and my phone/charger. I'm wearing yoga pants (with a foldover waist) and a loose t-shirt to the hospital, along with slip-on shoes and I'm wearing those home. I figure I'm going to be there overnight, not move in. Anything I really find that I need my husband can run home to grab.
  22. Can you call your surgeon's office and see if you can use another kind of shake? Mine gave me several options that I can use during pre-op.

    Protein shakes

I am a big fan of unjury chocolate splendor and Unjury strawberry sorbet.

Last week before pre op diet

My surgery date is March 5th so I start my pre-op diet on the 19th. My anniversary is today and my birthday is the 18th so I will be having at least 2 "food funerals" just from special occasion eating. I'm going to do my best to limit it to those 2 days because I don't want to make things more difficult for myself after surgery; however, I'm definitely doing to eat what I want at very nice restaurants on both of those days.

    March 5

My date is March 5th too. I'm pretty sure the pre-op diet freaks everyone out but I figure I can do anything for 14 days! Good luck to you!
