Feb 28 came so fast
vdub_tx replied to CubsWinCubsWin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not tomorrow but I am next week. It's funny isn't it...how it seems like forever and then sneaks up on you? Congratulations on your surgery. I can't wait to join the ranks of the recently sleeved! -
Mommies! What about the kids?
vdub_tx replied to Jen40's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Can you make and freeze stuff ahead? Lasagna (or just buy a Stouffers!), chicken spaghetti, chili, enchiladas, etc. That way he just has to pull something out of the freezer and pop it in the oven. Easy! Leftovers would make quick and easy lunches too. -
March 3rd....4 days away and getting nervous!
vdub_tx replied to robinson's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm right there with you. My surgery is on the 5th and last night my nerves really started to kick in. I'm just trying to focus on the positives and not the scary stuff. Good luck to you! -
I hit my goal! 100 pounds (with pics)!

That's amazing! Great job!! -
I'm not a Kaiser patient but everyone is different. A friend of mine who had surgery had 3 days of Clear liquids but not other pre-op. Some people do a week, some people 2-3, some people get to eat a dinner, some don't. It's all over the board.

This time tomorrow...

Good luck! You're going to do great. I think it's perfectly normal to be scared...I for one am still a week away and nerves are starting to kick in...but it's so worth it. Update us when you're feeling up to it! -
Congratulations on getting a date! I'm on day 8 of the pre-op liquid diet and I'm not going to lie...it pretty much sucks. However, it gets much, much better about day 3. If you can make it through the first couple of days, you will feel much better. I had a horrible headache on day 2 and way super cranky and emotional...but now I don't notice the hunger so much. It's also important to stay hydrated throughout. I notice that I get hungrier on days when I don't get in all of my fluids. Plus...it's only 2 weeks to a better life...I can do anything for 2 weeks. Good luck to you!

Houston (Cypress) here but I went to school at A&M so I have lived in Bryan/College Station!

I'm 8 days away and feeling "over" this liquid diet too but it's only 8 more days. Just have to keep reminding myself. Yes it is really 8 more days plus 2 weeks of full liquids but I am trying to convince myself I won't care so much after surgery!

So glad to hear that you are doing well! Glad they got your pain under control. Can't wait to join you as an official "sleever" next week.

BariatricPal Local Chapters…a New Way to Connect!
vdub_tx replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I love love love this idea and would absolutely help lead, especially if you offered training. I do think BP should at least provide "suggested" agendas and chapters would likely need help securing guest speakers. I hope this works out as it is surprisingly difficult to find regular support groups in my area of Houston. -
Never thought I would say this....
vdub_tx replied to Dragonsmate's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yea and congratulations! Sounds like you have a fantastic attitude about the whole process. I hope I am able to stay so positive! -
Prayers for you. You're going to do great!

Hey I'm in Houston too! Who is your surgeon?
-
My surgery is 3/5 and I'm 6 days into pre-op. The first two days I was super cranky and had to apologize to my husband and kids about a billion times. I'm doing better now but I am sooo ready to go ahead and have surgery. This last week and a half is dragging.
-
Congratulations! I'm on day 6 of pre-op and doing so much better than day 1. I'm having my surgery 3/5 so I'm pretty close to you. It sounds like you have a great attitude...I'm sad to say I was super cranky on day 1!

You're going to do GREAT and everything is going to be just fine! Keep us updated on how you're doing. I'm cheering for you!

Having my GS surgery in March
vdub_tx replied to Magician44's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on day 5 and doing much better now. The first couple of days were rough as I had a headache I couldn't get rid of and was just feeling soooo crabby. I'm doing great now and as of this morning am down 5 pounds. At the moment I am allowed a dinner of 4-6 oz of lean protein and a cup and a half of green veggies. Starting Wednesday I go to liquids only. I'm hoping that won't be a huge deal since I've already detoxed off of the carbs/sugar. My surgery is 3/5 and it still doesn't seem real to me yet. -
I'm on that exact same pre-op diet. I've lost 5 pounds but every time I've ever dieted I lose steadily at first and then hit a stall so I fully expect to stop losing here pretty quickly and then pick back up in the last few days. You probably just lose differently and will see a big drop all at once. Don't worry, it will happen. You can't cut calories like that and not lose weight.
-
Well I'm on day 5 now and I can verify that the first 3 days are the worst. Make sure you drink plenty to stave off dehydration and take Tylenol at the first sign of a headache. I am eating my body weight in jello and sugar free Popsicles I swear. I also have some of those flavor infused broths by Swanson and that has helped. I cut them with regular chicken broth and it breaks up the monotony of plan broth. A lot of it is in your head too; you just have to keep telling yourself it is totally worth it and believe you can do it. Days 3 and 4 were both soooo much better.

What’s in your Protein Shaker?
vdub_tx replied to tiangcoj's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
And I didn't see if anyone answered you but PB2 is powdered peanut butter. It only has 45 calories in 2 tablespoons. I add it to both chocolate and vanilla shakes, depending in what I'm in the mood for. I order mine from Amazon because I can't find a local store that carries it. Hope that helps! -
What size bougie was used?
vdub_tx replied to niassy151's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is the tube that the surgeon uses as a guide to butt the stapler up against during surgery. It is not the size of your new stomach, but obviously the smaller the guide, the smaller the stomach. You'll see some people really into this discussion but really the difference is very small. -

vdub_tx replied to niassy151's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know I totally get it. I'm self pay so I really don't want to spend all of this money for nothing. But honestly, you are going to lose 80% of your stomach...a few extra centimeters is not going to make a big difference in your appetite. Someone posted a link one time that showed the bogies side by side which really illustrated the tiny difference and helped me wrap my mind around it. I am sure you could Google it if you are curious. -
Congratulations! How exciting!
