congrats on this change...im excited but it seems so far away as though it will never happen. my insurance requires me to do a 6 month supervised weigh loss...along with other requirements from my doctor. im 3 months down so far....so there is light in sight, i think that as it gets closer ill feel more excited as well as other emotions

I know it a bit far away....but i just got a call that im schedule for surgery on the 20th of june.....YESS finally a date. Any one else has a june date?

Hello everyone. Im new to the sleeve group, never considered it to be an option until giving it more of a look. Yesterday i went to meet me surgeons to see if he would accept me into their program. he was a very lovely person. calm, patient, and he let me talk. Everything was fine, and we were going over what to look forward to when he looked at my chart and say that i was only 24. He made it very clear to me that he doesn't like to operate on anyone 26 and under because of their immaturity. But after about a minute he said that theirs a difference in maturity between and 26 yr old with no children, than a 24 yr old with 3 children ( which is myself) and he accepted me into the program. I was so happy (not that i let it show) I have tricare prime (military insurance) so its nice to know my surgeon will be there every step of the way. He told me that he would only do the sleeve for me being that im young and motivated. I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW YOUR SLEEVE STORY. I will be having surgery in july, and im nervous, scared, and excited all at the same exact time. thank you for your support and story

So i went to my new pcm (last one was VERY anti- wls) and she was very supportive of me seeing the weight loss specailist. So she requested that i have blood drawn, just to make sure im healthy enough for the surgery. Ive tried so many different things, supervised diets, weight watchers, alli pills....ect and nothing. I go back to my doctor on the first of feb to get my referral, and i know tricare has to aprrove it, but what happens after that? If youve used tricare to cover your surgery, what was your experience? thanks in advance

So today was the day for me to return to the doctor to review my labs to make sure i was a go to see the surgeon. i have tricare prime so u had to get my doctors approval. I received a call yesterday stating that my doc wouldn't be in because of a family problem.....ugh i was so nervous! I was sure that the doctor covering for her would want me to wait until she returned to get my referral. The doc same in saying that he wouldnt give me the referral, and that i would have to wait until my doc returned. Then his nurse stated that my doc wont be in for 2 month, and so he put it in. He told me to wait 5 to 10 business days to hear if the referral was accept. but in only 1 hour i go a call with a date for 2/14 to see my surgeon! how fast was that!!!! Im so excited, nervous! Now what should i expect?

Thank you both for your input. I am in tricare south and many people have told me its rather fast. Im also on base so ill be referred to a specailist most likely on base. Thank you both again

So ive started the process of wls, but my pcm is very anti wls. I changed my pcm today and I have an appointment with my new one...fingers crossed for my referral. If all goes well I should be well on my way to getting to the next step, but just in case this doctor falls through are there anyone who went through NS Mayport as far as referrals? Who did you go through? Thanks in advance.

He did, he states that wl isnt hard, people just make it hard.....and on and on. He made me very uncomfortable and I reported him to my husbands superiors.....but now I have a female pcm...I will be meeting her tomorrow. Hopefully she's different

Hello, new to ns mayport. Went to see my pcp todat and he was very reluctant to give me a referral to see the bariatric specakist. Insead he gave( well put in for me to start a 8 week health and nutrition class here on base. My question is will this class lead to me being apprived for the bariatrics, has anyone has any experience with ns mayport and their approval process. Are their any doctors who are better with referrals in this matter. I have a bmi of 42.7 and im qualified for tricare. thank you in advance....

I did not have mine done there but there people on this board who have and are very happy with their surgeon. Maybe start a new post with the title "looking for a good surgeon in Jacksonville FL" and see the responses you get and take it from there. Also once you find your PCM he or she may have suggestions. Do you live on base? I did on Edwards Ave in the back. Living on base and being walking distance to the beach was so great! When the weather was warm I would send the kids to school and do my morning walk to the beach. I would sit on the steps and watch the dolphins swim. It was so relaxing! I miss it there so much. thank you for that help. Yes I do live on base on everglades st....its wonderful
