My name is Jonna, from Hawaii. I am a mother of 5 girls and a retired Navy wife. Born and raised on the island of Oahu, hubby on the island of Lana'i. My girls are 16, 14, 6, 4, and 1. I work at the community college as a Health Information Technology Program Assistant, and a full time student.
I found this site by chance. I had fitness pal and thought there must be one for bariatric patients and here I am. As of today, 12/29/13, I am on my pre-op diet. It is not easy but from what I have seen online, my diet is really not so bad. I must do 2 meal replacements and 1 sensible meal, no starches. It was really difficult the first couple days but I am adjusting. My surgery is scheduled for 1/3/14, a new start to a new year!
The decision to have the gastric bypass was not an easy one. I looked long and hard into all aspects of the procedure. I finally decided that I wanted to avoid any bad health issues before they started. I had gestational diabetes with my two youngest girls and knew that within 10 years that was a huge chance of developing diabetes. I have really bad acid reflux and are on medications for that. I understand that I am very fortunate to just have GERD and nothing else but know that if I don't do something to lose the weight and better my health, that I will be heading down the wrong road. The surgery will give me a change to make the necessary lifestyle changes that I need to do for myself and my family.
I am so happy to be here and look forward to all the support that I can get here!
