    one year post op tomorrow

Thanks for all the encouragement. I have lost 136 pounds this year and about 87 inches. I feel good. I want to lose another 50 or so.
  2. Tomorrow June 17th marks the one year mark of my surgery date. I started out wonderfully and have not done so well in the last 6 months. I have lost a total of 87.25 inches and 116 pounds from June 17, 2013 but it has been 136 pounds since I first started this journey with the preop diet etc. I feel wonderful. A lot more energy and I do more than ever, especially with my daughter. I just feel depressed that I am stalling out the last 6 months. I have a hard time doing what I should (exercise, getting enough Protein and Water, etc) I did so well at the beginning. I think part of it is that at my 9 month appointment I saw the physicians assistant and she told me that I was probably done losing weight. It really upset me and I kinda gave up after that. I am going to the doctor tomorrow for my one year check up. I am determined to get back on track.

    depressed

I so can relate. I was the same way where I felt it wasn't really me looking in the mirror. I still saw the "old" me for the longest time. The one when I wasn't overweight and still in high school. But I too work with young kids, mostly boys and all are SBH (severe behavior). I was fine until last year with the comments they made. Last year they got very brutal with what they said. I was so depressed and embarrassed and so many other feelings. It was all I could do to go to work. Since the surgery I have lost a lot of weight but still have a long ways to go. They still make comments but it doesn't hurt as much. I know I am doing something to change that and to be healthier. Keep your chin up. You can do this!

    getting discouraged

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. I was doing really great at exercising and things just got hectic and am having a difficult time getting back at it. Like today for instance. My husband drives over the road and is only home about 4 days a month. My daughter gets sick and my mother in law that lives with me gets sick. So I can't go to the Y cuz I need to take care of them. I know I should do something here but by the time I get them settled and my kid is asleep I am ready for bed. But I decided no more excuses. Tomorrow if I have to get up before everyone else I will get back to the exercising. Also I think the food journal and locking the scale away is a great idea. Also, I am going to try to go to the support group in my area on Monday. Thanks everyone.
  5. I am now in my 7th month. I have lost 120 pounds. I love it! However I have not lost a single pound or oz. in a month. I actually have gained a pound. I know my exercising has sucked due to bluntly my laziness. I mean yes, the holidays and this extreme cold keeps me away from the gym but lets face it I could still exercise at home. I was also told by the physicians assistant that in another few months I probably won't lose anymore. I was shocked and pissed. First of all, I had this done and need to lose a total of 250 pounds to get to "normal weight for my height" so to be told I probably won't make it makes me angry. They never said that was possible. I am determined to prove her wrong. I am trying to think of the good things. Like the going down 3 sizes, loss of a total of 35 inches in Dec. Need to measure for this month still. Not needing a seat belt extender, doing more with my daughter, being able to run, wearing "average sized" jewlery and just yesterday I was able to cross my legs for the first time in 20 years. I did it without thinking sat there for about 3 minutes before it hit me : You're legs are crossed and you're comfortable and they aren't slidding down!!!! I even had my kid take a pic. Even with all of that I am getting frustrated at the numbers. I know they say not to pay attention to it but REALLY?!!! How are you to do that when that was the purpose of the surgery. I don't know what can help me get out of this funk.

    What's the best protein shake?

I use the premier Protein chocolate shakes too. Lots of protein at Sam's I get a 15 pack for $15. Kroger sells them for $8 for a 6 pack I think,.

    Hair Loss!

I started to lose my hair at 2.5 months so much that I was glad it was thick but now it is thin. But it has slowed down and I am at 6 months and 118 pounds lost. I increased my Protein (my doc. didn't want me to drink all my protein either, he wants me to learn to get it through food but the problem is I hate meat, etc. now. I can not stand to eat it all four meals so I use two Protein shakes a day and two other meals. ) I also increased my Biotin to 10,000 mcg a day. Also, my dad is a barber and he got me some special shampoo, conditioner and leave in stuff for thinning hair. Ask your barber/beutician for a product with Nioxin
  12. How much do you eat at one time? It seems that either the fat grams or the sugar grams are too high when I look at yogurt. according to my doctor I can only have 3 grams of fat and 5 grams of sugar

I thought I was the only one! I get gas more often but not really a lot but they are horrible in smell and not to be gross but so is the bowel movements. I have horrible problems with being able to go due to the Vitamins and so sometimes i have to use a stool softener to help and then oh boy watch out as soon as I fart and it smells like the living dead I know to get to the bathroom. LOL

    The dreaded STALL...

Hi I too am from the Toledo, Ohio area. I am at 6 months post op. I have had several stalls lasting that long also. What helped me was to go back to two shakes a day (making sure I got the full Protein I was supposed to). Exercise (I stopped a couple of times due to being busy and also I have broke two toes since the surgery and I have an old foot injury that acts up). I also made sure I was getting my Water intake too. I too have Dr. White as my surgeon
