    May lap-band

I think my pre-op diet is like what youre saying. I don't have to only drink Clear liquids. I need to keep my carbs down and my Protein intake high. ive used flax in baking before. you can find it in the 'healthy' section of most grocery stores and i'm pretty sure walmart has is in their baking flours, as well. you can google recipes, but I've used this site before: http://www.flax.com/Section/Flax_Recipes/index.html?PHPSESSID=7693934aadf8dbffb38881177d1eb2ae hope this helps.

    1 Month Before getting Banded!

congrats! i'm 4 days after you! my insurance required the 1 year of 'health' coaching before the would approve me, it was a long process, but I'm def more ready than ever to get this over with.

    Breakfast ideas?

"I cant stand Protein shakes by the way!!!" Have you tried different types of protein and liquids? I've fallen DEEPLY in love with Beverly International UMP Cookies and Cream flavor mixed with almond milk. At night if I feel like my sweet tooth is kickin in, i'll blend this with some ice and either drink it, or put it in the freezer until it becomes ice cream-ish.
  7. My form to my PCP also said last 5 years of weigh ins. I've only been going to her for practice for 3 years (I've only been in this area that long), and that's all she gave. My weight also fluctuated up and down, but it was a overall increase of 20 lbs a year. She only gave the 3 years and my insurance company didn't reject me because of that. I was approved last week.

    May lap-band

35 days until mine. Haven't felt a single bit nervous yet and I'm not sure it will ever come. I think because this process has been so drawn out (14 months), I've had time to really let it set in and I know what I'm getting myself into.

    Band Friendly travel foods

Have you tried Quest bars? They have high Protein content and low net carbs. They have very few ingredients and are very tasty!

    Tanning

I haven't had surgery yet, but I've had laparoscopic on both knees and tanned within like 2-3 weeks, I just put some band aids or sunscreen on those areas, since they're still pretty sensitive.

    The new girl

welcome!! congrats on your new lifestyle!
  15. So, while filling out paperwork at the doctors office, I noticed they mentioned if I had a will. This question didn't scare me, but made me think, I probably should get one, because you NEVER know what could happen. I mean, surgery could go great, but what if I died in a car accident on the way home from the hospital. My question is, did anyone fill out a will before they received WLS? How did you go about it?
  16. Thanks guys! I'm still pretty young (26) and have only had anything worth any value in the last few years, which is my house. I had never thought about a will before, but I want everything to go to my finance if anything happens, rather than have my parents decide, since they don't really play a huge roll in my life. I will def look into a living will, as well, because I don't want my love ones to be scared about what decision to make if anything goes wrong.
  17. FINALLY. called insurance today, i'm APPROVED! now just waiting for the dr to schedule!

  20. looking at BMIs and i'm considered SUPER morbidly obese. i know i'm obese, but i dont feel SUPER MORBILY.

      LilMissDiva Irene

In all honesty I don't think any of us really realize to the extent of our obesity. That said the important thing to remember is that you're fixing it. Stay focused!

    2. Ready2Live76

      Ready2Live76

Also remember the BMI chart doesn't take into account the melting pot of a world we live in. What is considered "ideal weight/BMI" for Caucasians, asians, african americans, latinas, italians, etc etc, is not all the same.

hey Christy.. that's who my insurance is thru, anthem cova care. which I heard were good at getting requests thru, but its now 4 weeks after the surgeons apt and I still have heard anything.

betty_s...sorry to hear you are still waiting. I can't imagine going thru this wait and see process as long as you have. It will be 1 month exactly at waiting on the insurance on March 26. Some days go by, and I am like....I will surely hear tomorrow. And some days....I just can't stand waiting! I have Anthem bc/bs myself. Glad I don't have some aggressive cancer or disease that could kill me before they answer. Sorry...bad day for me. Here's to answers for us both real soon.

  22. So, after 12 months of dealing with insurance requirements, I had an appointment with the surgeon yesterday. I never really chose a surgeon, they kinda just stuck me with one. Last year, I had an appt with his nurse practitioner and she went over the band and everything, so there was no surprise what surgery I was choosing. When the surgeon came in, he made me feel so bad about my decision to get the lap-band that I was actually second guessing my choice and thinking I should maybe get the sleeve. I get that lap-band statistics aren't as strong as bypass and sleeve, but he was being so ridiculous. He said my BMI was WAY too high to get the band, way higher than his 45 BMI cut-off.. (i'm 7 lbs away from 44.9) so he was being very dramatic. Finally after his lecture of how I wouldn't be successful with the band, he refused to continue to be my surgeon and told me see the other surgeon at his office and see if he might give me the band. So, I left the office a wreck and crying and had to come back in 2 hours to meet with the other surgeon. Luckily, that surgeon told me he thinks I'd be a great candidate for the band because I'm young and have a lot of motivation. So, within the next 2 weeks, I should be hearing about surgery date! Hopefully i'll be a March bander!!! I hate that the original surgeon made me doubt something I've been SO SURE of for the last 12 months. I knew I didn't want the evasive sleeve, and I really think the band will be the best thing for me. So, even though the day started out rocky, I ended up with a much better surgeon, that actually believes in me. So happy.
  23. The initial surgeon was Dr. Bautista. I'm now working with Dr Carmody. I'm in Richmond VA and about to have surgery on April 10. What doctor please!!!!!
  24. Yes, I love Maya. She did my first initial appointment last year. If only the rest of the office staff (minus carmody) could be a little more friendly. I cant stand the PSRs.
  25. Thanks for this! I've always been active, but with the last 30 pounds, being as active is hard (at 300). I've been working out prior to surgery.. It sucks that I wont be able to do much for 4 weeks other than walk and light weights. I love HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) workouts because I HATE cardio and they make it go by quick. Even if you aren't very mobile, you can still do it on a stationary bike or elliptical, as long as you get your HR going!
