3 weeks post op. Not feeling too goid

I had the same symptoms and tried many antacids before any luck. My nausea started the moment I awoke from surgery, in fact, I was so nauseated that I could not drink water and ended up going back to the hospital two separate times for I.v. fluids and vitamins. I finally told my doctor that I wanted a prescription for Aciphex. I have worked in the medical field for years and know the success rate of that particular antacid. Finally after 7 weeks of hell I was prescribed a med that worked and after 2 days of taking it I was able to eat, drink and came back to life. I highly recomened asking your physician about it. Doctors are reluctant to prescribe Aciphex because most insurance companies do not cover it unless a bunch of other antacids have been tried and failed. Your physicians office will need a list of what you have tried so they can submit a form called a 'prior authorization' to your insurance company when trying to get this med approved. It will be approved, it is just extra paper work for the doctors office and a bit time consuming but that is their job, right? You are your best advocate and the squeaky wheel gets the oil. You do not have to suffer. Good luck and blessings.

    Emotional mess...!

I am so with you. My emotions can go from tears to rage in a matter of seconds. I am almost 5 months post op and though it has lightened up, it is still bad. I feel sorry for my husband and two young daughters. I feel like a basket case and am constantly apologizing for my behavior. I spoke to my surgeon about it at my 4 month follow up and he said it will eventually even out or go away. I sure hope so because I don't know how much more of this emotional roller coaster I can take. Hang in there, you are not alone.

    Mood swings

I am right there with you. Don't know why but I can go from happy to crying to angry in a blink of an eye. My poor husband and kids are doing the best they can to deal with it but I feel terrible. I was sleeved 12/17/13 and am praying that in time it will get better.

    Complications

I am so sorry to hear you are having such a rough time. The patches worked like a miracle for me but after a week I started to build a tolerance for them and they started causing me side effects. (Dry mouth, metal taste, blurred vision, dizziness, irritation/ rash where the patch was placed) My surgeon said it was probably even causing my nausea, so be careful. It was the only thing that stopped the vomiting so I became dependent on them. I just did everything I could to get through the hard times and not end up back in the hospital, sounds like you are doing the same. Remember, it will get better in time. I would still do it all over again for the 40lbs I have lost and the way I feel now. Feel free to private message me

    Complications

You are not alone. I was sleeved 12/17/13 and from the minute I woke up I had sever nausea. This lasted for 6 weeks straight. I had to go to an infusion center 2 times for I.v. fluids due to sever dehydration. I tried 4 different anti nausea medications and 2 different antacids with out any success. Finally on the 6 week mark I was put on aciphex for my acid and started eating solid food. Up until this point I could not tolerate anything, even water. The only thing I could now stomach was ruffles potato chips with american cheese melted on top. Not ideal to say the least but it stayed in and gave me a little energy. After about 4 day of that concoction, I started eating other things and slowly came back to life. I still can not seem to get in enough water or protein I also wish I would have known nausea was a real side effect before having surgery however if I would have known how bad I was going to have it, I probably would have chickened out. The only bad thing is that, as soon as I started eating, I stopped loosing. I dropped 40lbs in that first 6 weeks. Since then I have lost 2 more pounds but that has been in the last couple days because I finally felt well enough to exercise. Having gone through it, here is what I recommend: Puke and ralley- drink water even if it come out to avoid dehydration and having to get fluids through an I.v. Eat what you think you can stomach even if it is carbs. At this point you need to recover any way you can. Make sure your acid is under control with medication. Hang in there, you are most definitely not alone but it does get better.

    So Dry....

I am so dry. My skin, especially my face. Prior to surgery my face was oily and now I am dry as a bone. I know I am not getting in enough liquid and am boarder line dehydrated at all times. I wonder if that is why I am so dry? I can not seem to put on enough lotion. Any one else have this happen? I am 10 weeks post op and down 41lbs.
  8. I am not familiar with these bars. Please clue me in on why they are so good and where I can buy them. I am always looking for new foods, especially bars. Thank you in advance.
  9. I can relate to your questions very much. At 3 weeks out I thought the same thing. 6 weeks was my turning point. I got hungry and wanted real food. Not just protein shakes. Once I started eating more solids I started experiencing the full sensation. I had not felt full up until that point though. As far as getting enough protein..... Put protein powder in everything you can or stick with your shakes. Those are the 2 best bang for your buck type ways. Are you on an antacid? I was having extreme acid reflux that sounds a little like what you are describing. Just a guess. I have it so bad that it took 3 different meds to find one that worked and I have to take it twice a day. Good luck

What kind of foods are you eating?

I am 8 weeks today and can eat anything my stomach can tolerate and so far it has tolerated everything I have given it. I, like you, had a bad craving for rice, veggies and chicken. I ate it. I made it fresh at home though. I took a couple bites, was satisfied for a couple hours then had a couple more bites... at this point, it is all about what you can tolerate. Remember to chew well and eat slow.
  11. I am lactose intolerant and having a hard time with anything sweet or with artificial sweeteners. Propel zero is too sweet as is crystal light or any Mio type drops to flavor your Water. I am getting sick of almond breeze and water seem too harsh on my stomach. All of my taste buds have changed and nothing tastes good or right. Ice is too cold and my stomach doesn't like that either. I am getting really dehydrated and don't know what to do. Here is what I have tried and failed for some reason or another: Water with lemon, crystal light, any water flavoring drops, lactaide, propel zero, Gatorade, tea, hot coco, flat soda, regular soda, ice, popsicles, Jello. Help. I have not tried coconut water but will in the near future. I have not tried juice and am afraid to. I am still nauseated but am at least holding down most things now. 6 weeks post op and need some fluids. Any suggestions would be most helpful.
  12. My surgeon told me that during surgery, your diaphragm can be disturbed and may cause you pain and or hiccups later on due to it. I don't have hiccups but I have had sharp pain on my right side and when I inquired well, that was his answer

    what to drink?

Thank you for the suggestions. I am going to make some herbal tea right now. Berry zinger. The tea from Starbucks sounds good and I will have to try some before committing to a box off Amazon. I have tried crystal light and mio, real heavy on the water and light on the flavor and still heartburn city and nausea.

    Puree Phase

My Puree phase is fast approaching. I am so excited to eat again but am a little nervous. I am still having a hard time with acid and nausea. My surgeon just put me on a second nausea med and told me an over the counter antacid was fine. I will pick those up later today and start them. Here is my questions: What do you suggest eating during the puree phase? Was there anything you tried that you regretted after? Any suggestions or comments would be very helpful. Thank you in advance

    Losing weight preop!?! Help!

Loosing weight prior to your surgery is super important. It reduces the risk of complications during surgery 99%. When loosing 10% of your body weight is lost, your internal organs shrink, allowing the instruments to get in and get the job done. If your organs are too big the Doctor may decide that going in laproscopiclly (sp?) is too risky and instead open you up leaving a huge scar from the bottom of your breast bone to the top of your pubic bone. A girl friend of mine could not manage to loose but 5lbs prior to surgery amid well she has the scar. I am not saying this will happen to you but something to consider. Another thing about loosing the weight prior is surgery is the feeling of accomplishment. As far as the diet goes, I agree 100% with what has already been said except for the diet pills. The only thing I would add is to drop the caffeine and only drink non caloric, non carbonated, non caffeinated drinks. Propel zero, water, water with lemon, water with crystal light or other flavor enhancers, sugar free hot coco, milk, tea, broth, ect. Keep a bottle in your hand at all times and sip away the day. This will help you stay a little more satisfied though you are not consuming nearly what you use to. Lastly, don't beat your self up if you slip. We are all human and its going to happen. Learn from it and move on. You will do great. I am rooting for you and you are not alone. Just an FYI, I was sleeved on Dec. 17th and down 28lbs with 60lbs to go to hit goal.

    Northern California Sleevers?

I'm in Santa Cruz. Sleeved 12/17/13 at Stanford hospital in Palo Alto. Doctor John Morton. Highest weight 225, weight at surgery 218, today's weight 196 and dropping.
  17. I had the same thing happen to me. I woke up out of a dead sleep in horrible pain. I called right away and my surgeon told me it was common. He said that during surgery your diaphragm can get irritated and as the swelling goes down can cause a sharp pain, usually on the right side, into your back and up into your shoulder. He told me to take Tylenol for the pain and not to worry. It was gone 2 days later. I did tell him that if the pain had come on like that but on my left side, I would have called 911 thinking something was seriously wrong. Hope that helps and that you are experiencing the same thing and not any complications like gallstones or kidney stones.

    Liquid diet phase

My surgeon was very pleased with my progress and my post op on the 3rd. He took me off my nausea patch due to side effects it was causing. He put me on protonix and told me I could swallow it whole (thank God). Today is my 3rd day off the patch and on the antacid. Super nauseated Threw up and am having a super hard time getting water in today. Just having a hard time in general. Can't wait to feel better.

3 Weeks Out. What Were U Eating?

I am 19 days post op and still on the full liquid phase. My doctor does not want me to start the puree phase until 4 weeks. This is killing me. I am so nauseated still and trying to force down any protein shake, broth, even water is a huge production. I feel I am slipping into the dehydrated side, something I have so desperately tried to stay away from thus far. I was on the nausea patch but was taken off of it 3 days ago. At my post op appointment, due to side effetcts it was causing me. I was also just put on protonix for acid/ ulcers 3 days ago with high hopes of it helping my nausea. It hasn't. I am popping zofran melt tabs every 8 hours and the dreaded phenergan suppositories with out much relief either. Don't know how much more of this I can take. I am starting to be a real burden on my family. My poor husband took his vacation to take care of me after surgery and is now back to work. We have a 4 and 2 yr old and I feel like I just left the hospital. I know there is light at the end of the tunnel but at this point I regret not being able to loose the weight on my own and hate what I am putting my family through and how I feel. So frustrated and sick to my stomach. I could cry, in fact, I am.

    Liquid diet phase

I am going trough the exact same thing. I am 16 days post op and still have sever nausea. I am also having a hard time getting anything in. I am averaging 32oz of liquid (almond breeze/ water) and 10grams of protein (muscle milk powder in almond milk) per day. I am also on a nausea patch that makes me dizzy and have blurred vision but at least I can handle the sick to my stomach feeling a bit more. I still have 2 more weeks of the full liquid phase per my doctor. I am also lactose intolerant so any cream soups, enriched milk, ect is out of the question. As far as being hungry... I am just craving food... my body doesn't need it nor am I starving. Craving food is torture. Everyone is saying to get on a liquid antacid since I cant tolerate a pill but my doc said there is not a liquid form and not to really worry about getting it in at this point. Though I have been reading that antacids really work for the nausea so I am going to really push to get on one. My post op appointment is tomorrow and I feel like I just got out of the hospital. I have not left my house since the 19th and am not looking forward to the nauseating car ride there. Hang in there. I am in the same boat as you are
  22. I am 15 days post op the sleeve and want to eat so bad. This is torture. My nausea has been so bad I am hardly getting in any water or protein. I feel extremely weak and no where near back to my self. Starting to beat myself up about having the surgery by asking myself if I could have done it on my own? A little late I admit. Sure hope things turn around. Anyone else have this type of experience? Does it get better? Encouragement needed.

    California? Anyone...ツ

I am in Santa Cruz. Sleeved 12/17/13 at Stanford in Palo Alto by Dr. John Morton.
  24. Hi sleevers, I am 8 days post op and am battling some major nausea. I can not get anything in me but water as of right now. My blood sugar is pretty low (56-81) due to it and all that I can seem to stomach is a little apple cider when too low. I am on the nausea patch and am taking zofran every 8 hours with out much relief. The patch is making me dizzy and have blurred vision. I have noticed that if I do not drink for a couple hours my nausea gets much better but because I am fearful of dehydration, I am drinking 30ml of water every 10 minutes. I tried to take my gallstone and ulcer prevention meds today with a little pudding but threw up as soon as my tongue touched the spoon and I can not even think about protein powder with out gaging. Has anyone else experienced this before? If so, any suggestions? I am at my breaking point and am fearful that I may end up back in the hospital.

    Low blood sugar

I had gestational diabetes so I know how and when to check my sugar level. Still very scary being too low especially when I can not get anything in me.
