I hate depo. I saw my highest weight ever (253!! I'm so embarrassed to admit this number) thanks to that stupid shot. If I need birth control in the future, I will look into non-hormonal methods such as that copper insert...

I'm afraid of online dating. I had wayyy too many bad experiences in college with it :-( it seems like most of those guys I ran into were just seeking a friend with benefits..

anyone have their ins pay for tummy tuck due to it being "medically necessary"?
nursekimberly89 replied to GENNYOSKINNY's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I have seen where some had a panniculectomy ( I think I'm spelling it right!) because it was at risk for infection, and insurance covered it. But a tummy tuck for vanity's sake, no I haven't heard of anyone getting insurance to cover that. However, I have learned on these boards that going to Mexico to get plastic surgery is very affordable. -
OMG the nerve of these people

I got all teary-eyed from reading this! What a blessing :-) -
WLS ... is not cheating... it is a tool...

You look great ! Unfortunately, wls has gotten a bad rep due to the media. It's sad that people who could really benefit from the surgery don't take the opportunity because they are afraid of what people think. -

Lol one of my old co workers had a cholecystectomy last year, and she put a pic of her gallbladder on Instagram..yikes! -
How did you document your journey?

YouTube is an option, or blogging too. I like both! -

Maybe she was so supportive because she didn't think you'd be too successful at losing so much weight. -
Losing weight preop!?! Help!
nursekimberly89 replied to LaGueriTaChuLa13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Phentermine screwed me up too. 5 yrs later and I'm still dealing with high blood pressure thanks to the "magic pill". And it is still pretty easy to find it. Many "weight loss clinics " focus on the selling of Phen and administering b12 shots. -

Just wanted to say welcome & I'm so excited for you! I went to a seminar last night and I can't wait to get this process started officially -

Or maybe she is afraid her "fat friend" will soon pass her in the "looks" department.. -
Thanks Kelly. How was your surgery ? I may look into whc. I am going to a seminar tonight at AAMC and right now I'm somewhat leaning towards them due to their location but I haven't committed to any surgeon yet lol.

Please check your bp frequently if you are taking Phen.

Joining Weight Watchers after Gastric Sleeve surgery.
nursekimberly89 replied to calicakes's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It may be a good idea. I've done WW about four times myself so I share your sentiment. Towards the end, I struggled to stay within my points, which is why I always fell off the wagon lol. Another option you may want to consider is joining over eaters anonymous, if a group setting is what you're seeking. I have read other posters on here discuss their positive experiences with the group. -
Here's the website so you can see their products. It looks like they have a new tampon that will be helpful for those of us who have heavy flows https://www.ubykotex.com

I had a friend who was pursuing gastric bypass during her senior year of college. But she didn't have a job and her mom was 100% against the surgery so I don't think she got the necessary funds for the doctors visits & other associated costs. How is your support system?

Have you ever been chastised by another doctor for having weight loss surgery?
nursekimberly89 replied to ribearty's topic in Rants & Raves
P.s. I think the reasoning was it can increase your chance of ulcer formation. -

I'm still in research mode but from my findings, some doctors say that after wls you should never take any NSAIDs ever again. Notice I said some, lol. I'm anti NSAIDs myself, but for other reasons. -
When I graduated from nursing school we had a pinning ceremony. After we all marched in, a classmate (about the same size of me) sat down and the chair legs bent in four different directions! I felt so embarrassed for her ! The worst part is that some people laughed. I think that's sorta cruel to laugh at someone's humiliation :-(

I'm 24 and I'm researching the surgery too. I'm 5'3" and the last time I was weighed( 2 days before Christmas) I was 238. I contacted a couple of weight loss clinics located in Mexico last week, and one of them mentioned that insurance may deny me for this surgery due to my age and "people my age don't usually have co morbidities associated with obesity". Well, I do have one (high blood pressure ) but thankfully that's it. Anyways, I just said all that to say this-- don't let anyone make you feel bad for wanting to do something about your weight. Have you looked at potential surgeons yet? If not, attending a seminar is always a good first step. Check out your local hospitals that offer weight loss surgery and see when they have the seminars.

Weight Watchers E-Tools Accepted By Carefirst Bcbs?
nursekimberly89 replied to Comfy_Blue's topic in Insurance & Financing
Comfy, how did it go with care first? I used weight watchers too from 10/12-3-/13. -
It is plastic. I used a paper applicator once a few months ago and I struggled getting it in place with it, ugh.

I'm a pear shape so my advice may not help much..but anyways I first started using tampons about 3 years ago when I was about 25 lbs lighter (i'm probably somewhere in the 240s now but i'm not sure..still haven't weighed myself since the year started). My "first time" lol was with U by Kotex because a friend told me they were easy(and painless) to apply. The applicator helped tons, and like you I leak all over the place with pads, so I love Kotex tampons because I don't have that leak problem anymore. As for the flow..from what I remember in school, estrogen is stored in fat so when you lose weight it will mess with your menstrual cycle. As someone who has lost the same 40-60 lbs pretty much every year for the past 6 years, I can attest to this fact.
