Knockouts April Workout Minutes? Up it to 630 minutes
RedTulips3 replied to Chrisann's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think we should all pick a number of workouts to complete for April, that way we're not forced to meet a certain minutes criteria. For example: Hypothetically, I could exercise really hard for 15 minutes or take it easy for 45 minutes. Those 15 minutes might be a lot more effective than the 45 minutes. By doing workouts per month, we can decide how much time each session takes and it's more flexible. Any thoughts. I don't mind doing 630. It was a very busy month for me so I did find it hard to get to 600 this month, though I did just make it. -

Congrats Amy! WTG! -
Congrats on passing the halfway mark on your journey to onederland...or should I say "oneederland". I was just watching "That Thing You Do" the other day when I was exercising and it also reminded me of onederland"!

Congrats Tachababy on all your NSVs! One of my favorites is crossing my legs too!

New Weight Challenge: "Spring into Weight Loss" Challenge
RedTulips3 replied to Sades's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Almost made it! So close, only 2lbs away. -
Hey fellow Knockouts! How's it going? A few days after my first fill last week, I was able to eat everything I was able to eat before and just as much. I found out that I do have some restriction because I had my first sliming experience this week. I was eating a slice of deli turkey and I must not have chewed it well enough. I freaked out because I've been so careful about chewing my food as to avoid PBing for as long as possible. I got a tightness in my chest, but I thought that it was stomach telling me I was full. Of course this had to happen at the end of my lunch and as I was on my way to my next class. So there I am standing in a crowded elevator and the slime starts pooling in my mouth and I have no where to spit it! I got out of the elevator, found myself a tissue, sat down and tried to relax. Luckily, after 5 minutes, it finally passed and I breathed a sigh of relief. I got off easy this time. Now I am being super careful with my chewing. Nothing else has happened since then and I hope it will stay that way for a while!

first fill how many cc did you get
RedTulips3 replied to youniquegrl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It depends on the band you have. I have a 4 cc band. I had my first fill yesterday. There was already .5cc in the band and I got 1.5cc more so I have a total of 2cc. I don't really know so much about fills, but each person is different in the amount of restriction they get from fills. I've read that a lot of times that the first fill doesn't give much restriction and it takes a few fills to get decent restriction. Good luck! -
Knockouts "600 Minute March" Challenge
RedTulips3 replied to MamaJava's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I just started swimming once a week for an hour. Even at my heaviest, I went swimming in public. I just try not to think about what other people think about me. I just do what I need to do. I do wear shorts because I feel more comfortable that way, so you could do that. -
I am a big fan of Atkins. I've never done South Beach or anything like that so I can only tell you what I do. The reason why I like it so much is that my physical cravings for sugar/carbs completely disappear! Before doing low carb, my eating was a cycle of constant carb cravings and blood sugar highs and lows that I couldn't escape. Pasta is my favorite food but I have no desire to eat it. You can read some of the articles on Atkins - Atkins and/or read the book to understand how it works. Basically, the first 2 weeks (called induction) you keep your carbs below 20 grams. You don't have to count calories or worry about fat. The 20 grams come from the carbs that are naturally in non-starchy vegetables. The first week can be really hard because your body is still craving the carbs. After that though your blood sugar stabilizes and the cravings go away. Your body naturally is stays satiated longer by Protein and fat and so you end up eating a lot less too, so even though you don't have to count calories, you end up eating less calories. Pre-band breakfast was a slimfast low carb shake or eggs. Now it's just a shake because it's easier. lunch is a salad with tuna or turkey/chicken with full fat dressing. dinner is chicken or meat and vegetables. Snack is almonds, low carb Protein Bar, sugar free jello/pudding or sugar free chocolate. Pre-band I kept my carbs as low as possible and basically did induction the whole time so I could get off as much weight as possible before surgery. If you have any more questions, I'd be happy to answer them. I was also exercising and I am still exercising. It definitely definitely helps with weight loss 100%. I started out really slowly and just added more when I felt I could handle it. Such a low carb plan isn't for everyone. I see plenty of people here on LBT who eat all foods and rely solely on counting calories or don't count calories at all and just stop when they're full. I just had my first fill tonight so I'm just starting the search for the "sweet spot" journey. If I find that I can add some carbs in like whole grains and oatmeal and such and still lose weight then I might do that, who knows? We'll have to see.

Can anyone eat bread? I know I can't!
RedTulips3 replied to citygirl4616's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Haven't had my first fill yet and I have no trouble with bread. In fact, everything and anything goes down! That's probably about to change Thursday when I go for my first fill. -
I was a member of Curves a few years ago and I liked it. I rejoined at the end of this past summer on student 3-month plan and I still liked it. It's only 30 minutes, it's fun, good music and I liked the machines. It can get somewhat repetitive some times, but I still liked it. It's also great because you work out as easy or as intense as you want. Good luck Krista!

I totally understand you too Ang! I can eat everything and anything too: White meat chicken, bread, salad etc. I. I can eat a full meal too, though after a few of my bigger than regular meals, I got some tightness in my chest and an uncomfortable feeling. All that's about to change on Thursday when I go for my first fill. I think I'm only getting 1cc in my 4cc band, which I think is standard first fill. I'm happy to ease into the restriction. The only way I've been keeping myself in check and continue to lose weight in bandster hell is by low-carbing it. I lost 60 lbs pre-op on Atkins and with or without the band, I really believe in a low carb lifestyle. White sugar and flour ain't good for anybody! As yummy as it tastes, I believe it's what got me to be as heavy as I am (plus the genetics and such). I do allow myself once in a while to eat that stuff...and you know what, it doesn't taste as good as it used to. I know that if I wasn't doing Atkins these past few weeks would have been horrible. I'm planning to keep out as much sugar as possible in the hopes of losing weight quicker. Alisa and Ang, I hear you guys on the excess skin....it's inevitable. I've also been extremely overweight since I was 5 and it I know I'm going to have a bunch of excess skin too. I remember bringing this question up to my Dr. at my first consultation and he was just like "we'll worry about it when it's an issue". I realized that I would rather good health and saggy skin than bad health and skin that's not saggy because it's filled with fat! kcintx, Congrats on losing 48lbs! That's amazing! And you have to get smaller clothing, that's great! Keep reminding yourself that it will be worth it in the end! Take it 1 lb at a time! When I started at 315 in August I couldn't imagine losing 100lbs, it was too overwhelming. I worked in 10 lb increments making my way to 290 then 280, then 270 etc and all of a sudden, here I am only 6lbs away from losing 100lbs...I can't even believe it. Don't give up, it will come before you know it!

Knockouts "600 Minute March" Challenge
RedTulips3 replied to MamaJava's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
To get this exercise challenge in gear, I am challenging myself to exercise every weekday this week. Already did 65 min yesterday and I'm going to swim for an hour tonight. I'm going to aim to get over 200 min this week! Maybe I'm being a little ambitious, but we'll see what happens. So what kind of exercising are you guys doing to pass the minutes in the minute march? I'm mostly walking/running on the treadmill and some weight machines and some swimming. -
WTG AlisaH! Before you know it, you'll be in 26s! Shopping in your closet for a smaller size is fun, and a lot cheaper than buying new clothes!

I see a few of us have set up tickers! Good luck to all knockouts joining the challenge!

Way to go Chrisann, Ang, Nukechik and Ninja! I love NSVs! They make you feel so good. Seeing everyone's achievements gives me so much inspiration. We all know how great it feels to see that our weight loss doesn't just affect the number on the scale! I posted this in the general NSVs thread but I'll post them here too! I added some more while I was at it! When I sit in a chair I find myself crossing my legs without even thinking about it! And I can sit like that for a while, unlike before, I could barely cross them and after 30 seconds it hurt to keep them crossed. I actually have the following body parts (or at least now I'm 100% sure): A neck! A hip bone! Collar bones! A rib cage! Also, the chairs in my classrooms are the chairs with an attached desk, which are not big people friendly by any means! Last year I could barely sit comfortably in them. Now I have plenty of room to move and I can even cross my legs under them! My highest size ever was a 26 and 3x top and now I'm down to an 18 and 1x top! And....I actually bought an XL sweater from the Misses department!!!! I'm not quite an XL in tops yet, but this one fit, so who cares, it wasn't a plus size!:w00t::w00t: And apparently, my feet shrunk too! I've been a size 11 since I was 14 and now all my shoes are big on me. I think I'm a 10.5 now, which is kind of an annoying size to find, but I did just buy a size 10 yesterday! I also don't get out of breath going up the stairs. I can walk briskly and talk at the same time without getting out of breath. I ran for 15 min :cool2::ohmy: on 4.5mph! When I started exercising in August I could barely jog at 3.5 mph for more than 15 seconds without getting out of breath. Now I have so much energy. I had to move the driver's seat closer to the steering wheel. I'm hoping to go on vacation this summer and I'm not scared to sit in the seats on the airplane. I'm actually looking forwards to seeing how tightly I can pull the seatbelt (instead of worrying that it won't fit), how much room I will have in between me and the tray (now that I'll actually be able to lower the tray table), and how much room I'll have between me and the person next to me (instead of feeling bad that I'm squishing them) And my BMI is below 35 now, which means I officially don't qualify for insurance covered surgery anymore! WAHOO! K guys, I wanna hear more NSVs! Keep 'em coming! Each one counts, no matter how small. Look for them, acknowledge them, be proud of them!! Write them down and pull 'em out when you're having a bad day and when the scale doesn't say what you want it to say!:thumbup:

And I thought there was only 1 in the world! I wonder if that's the same one I heard about! A friend of a person I know was sitting in class when this girl's name was called for attendance, and of course the teacher pronounced it the incorrect way. The girl was actually insulted that the teacher would think that's how it was pronounced...seriously, what does she expect?
-
I was going to say everyone can set their own goals in minutes or miles or workouts(however long they may be) but 600 minutes is totally fine! Ang, there's a way to rename the thread? If you can why don't you rename it "Knockouts 600 Minute March Exercise Challenge". Not that we don't want other people joining, but it makes it special for us knockouts!
