I cannot take a bite of food without hubbie standing over me; "you're eating too fast";" I hope that is the right consistency"';"that is not what the information says you should be doing". WTF AM SUPPOSED TO DO. If he could, I would be eating from an eye dropper. This is what I have had today. 1/2 c of coffee over 30 minutes time; it was way too cold by the time I got to the "good to the last drop". Had such a small amount of chicken broth, it was bearely visiable in the bowl. I wish I had some of those little pill cups they use in the hospital to put my rations in. If my sister in laws call one more time and ask; Is she hungry??? What did she eat today??? You mean she had a drop of chicken broth and a spoon of jello and she is not hungry??? I had my band on the 27th. The day surgery turned out to be 4 days and 4 nights in the hospital. They had to repair a hytial hernia. It was as big as the grand canyon, but then of course big girls do not have henias the size of a leak in a bike tire. We go for the grand canyon. My doctor said if he had hollered into it, there would have been an echo. Well, excuse me. Because of the trama of the grand canyon getting repaired, the swelling caused my band to slip. And this was DAY 1. Nothing would go past the band. DAY 2 they tried to get past the band twice and nothing. We are stuck. Well by this point, I am pucking up the most funky stuff that has ever been inside a human being. DAY THREE ; 2.5 hours of surgery to find out WTF is going on. When I woke, I felt like I had been hit by an 18 wheeler. DAY FOUR; I go down for a barium swallow test and God Almight, I hit a grand slam home run. Everything is moving right along. HOWEVER, because of the trama, I must spend the night in the hospital once more. DAY FIVE; Nurse comes in and tells me that my potassium is too low and they cannot let me go home once more. I looked Nurse Ratchet in the eye and I said "Like Hell. Whatever you are going to give me, I will take it at home." Two hours later, Nurse Ratchet informs me that they were successful in bringing up my levels. If I had the strength, I would dance. So, then i was sitting there waiting for hubby to arrive and my dand gum IV starts beeping. I call Nurse Ratchet. She informs me she will be right in. After 15 minutes of waiting and listening to the beep, beep, beep, I get up, unplug the IV from the wall and start down the hall, all the time pushing this beeping IV pole and trying my best to hold the open in the back gown across my big #$%. Oh, did I add that I was bawling. The nurses are sitting at my destination writting in charts, IGNORING ME!!!! Finally one of them come up to me and says "May I Help you???". She fixes the problem and I return to my ward. Fifteen minutes, the IV starts beeping again. I buzz for the nurse and they assured me they would be right in. Fifteen minutes passes. I get up, unplugg the IV again and disconect it from my arm. I take the beeping IV and set it in the hallway and close the door. So, I guess I told them who was the boss. When hubby got there, he went to see the director of nursing and she came up to see me. After she left my room, hubby went to the nursing station for a cup of coffee and he told me the director had the nurses in an office, and she was waving her arms so much, she looked like a line judge at the Super Bowl. So, is it any wonder I had a nuclear fusion. I hope when I get to be 130 pounds, this will be funny.:help:

I am beginning to think this liquid diet is just a way to punish me for becoming "fat". God, I am sick at my stomach; I have a headache; I am crabby. My poor husband. And this is only day 2. How can a person survive on liquids for 2 weeks. I know that there are plenty of people that have gone through this before me and they have survived. I am pretty miserable and unhappy now. I must keep pushing forward.:faint: Today I have had 2 cups of coffee, a Protein shake, a sugar free pudding and just had some tomato Soup. I love tomato soup, thank goodness, but I am sure I will become sick of it. Oh, well, thanks for letting me vent. I will make it with the help from above and my husband and friends.:help:

I just popped the top of my last Diet Coke for at least 6 months. Well, really, Diet Cokes are a bad habit anyway. However, I will enjoy this last one and I better hurry as I have little over an hour to finish. I usually take a while to sip one. I will also be giving up hamburgers, pizza, Mexican Food, BarBque for a while at least. Hopefully, I will also be giving up 100 pounds of ugly fat!!! If I could have anything in the world right now, it would be a big juicy hamburger and chips to go with this Diet Coke, But why am I torturing myself with these thoughts. Monday morning, in less than 12 hours I will have my band in place. That will be the beginning of my new life. A healthier life. I want to see my precious twin granddaughters grow up. They are the light of my life. I had no idea that grandchildren would be so very precious. Their names are Kaitlyn and Miranda. Although they are twins, Kaitlyn has brown hair and Miranda is a blonde. They each have their own individual personalities. They live in Houston and we live east of Dallas, so I do not get to spoil them often. Then there is my dear precious husband. He would do anything in the world for me and anyone else in this family. I am doing it for him. In the past year, I have had 3 hip surgeries and still am not able to do much around the house to help him. Loosing some (alot) of this weight will be easier on my joints and I can finally give him the help to run this house. So, my next entry in this journal of my new life will be as a banded person. See you guys Tuesday.:kiss2:

Shelli--cannot remember if I have replied to your post. I am fine. Just excited about tomorrow. I doubt I will sleep much tonight. I have to be at hospital at 7 a.m. I will have to get up at 5 a.m. to get ready and leave by 6 a.m. It will be the start of rush hour here and the traffic can get awful. So, it will be an early morning for us here. But, I am as ready as i can be. How about you? How u doing -
Everyone be sure and check in by at least Wednesday. I am sure that by that time we will all be able to sit up and take nurishment:cry(or liquids). Good luck to everyone. This will be a great group to take this journey with. I am not scared at all. I just want it over with. Talk later.

Don, Glad you found us. My name is Clara. I also live in Texas. Rockwall to be exact. I will get my band tomorrow on the 27th. As for the savings on the food bill; we usually go out to eat 3 times a week. Since I have been on liquids, we have not been out to eat. So, a tremendous savings. Oh, liquids are cheaper than food too!!! lol

Lawanda---I cannot give you advise on any of your questions. I just want to congratulate you on your progress. I will get my band tomorrow on the 27th of August. I will then be asking you questions!!!

Spedsqsalady---Glad you came through good; knew you would. Those tomatoes sound so good. For some reason, I had a strong craving for a tomato. Probably a BLT!!!!!!!!! I will have my surgery tomorrow on the 27th. I will be so happy to graduate to cream of wheat!!! I never thought I would look forward to cream of wheat. Keep me posted as to how you are doing. You are a few days ahead of me on this journey. -
Shelli--I will be praying for you. Have you ever had surgery and been put to sleep? Everything will be ok, I promise. You will be in good hands and also in God's hands. He will protect us all tomorrow when we go in for our surgery. I cannot wait to hear from you on Tuesday. We will both be August Bandsters!!!! Hang in there. Talk later,

Liquid Preop Diet Journal

Hey Shelli and Candle--I too will clean house. Well straighten it up. I have a lady that comes every 3 weeks and she does the deep cleaning. This is her week to come. I must clear a path so she can get in house--lol. Well, really, it is not that bad. It is kind of like, I do my hair before I go to the beauty shop!!! Well, I clean house before my lady gets here. I know I have issues!! I too will stock up on books and magazines to read and get some movies to watch. The thing that scares me is this: What if after I go through all of this, what if all I can do is loose 15 or 20 pounds and that is all? I hope this is a stupid thought, but I tend to look at the dark side of things and expect the worst thing to happen. Ladies, my thoughts and prayers will be there with you tomorrow. Perhaps we can catch up here sometimes today. Talk later. -
A place for bandsters in their 60's
claramae replied to Oregondaisy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey Aussladie,Nicnaknut and Gayle and everyone else reading this. I want to tell you guys I appreciate the words of encouragement and your stories. They are all so familiar. We are really in the same boat. Nicnaknut, I agree with you about hubbie taking up so much of the responsibility. About 2 years ago I really started suffering from hip pain. The more time went by, the less I could do; cooking, cleaning, shopping was all a thing of the past. Then I had hip replacement, thinking that soon I would be back to my old self. Well, I developed an infection in that joint(MRSA) and I just thought I was disabled before. This knocked us both on our butts. After 6 months they had to replace the hip again. That hip dislocated twice!!!!! The doctor made some error in his calculations of the angle,or something like that. I went to another dr. and he did surgery yet again. This was in November of last year. I am still unable to unload the dishwasher, the dryer, pick up anything on the floor because of the hip. That will be the rest of my life. But back to hubbie. He has been a life saver for me. He does everything!!! He cooks, cleans(he finally let me hire a cleaning lady). He helped me shower when I could hardly move(I have no pride left!!!). He would drive me 25 miles to meet my girlfriend for lunch. He would join us and then we would all go to the bookstore and sit in the coffee shop and talk. He is wonderful to me. Now, he is following me step by step on this liquid diet too. I don't know if I could do that for him.Oh, I did not mention that hubbie is 15 years older than me!!! He has emphysemia, COPD also. -
candle, I will be thinking about you on Monday. I go in at 7 a.m. and surgery is 8:50. I hope you are doing good.
-
Becky, I will get my band on the 27th of August. I am not scared, but a little anxious. I am mostly worried that what if I only loose 10 or 12 pounds???? I know I will be very faithful to the instructions of my doctor, because I have been following his instructions on the liquid diet. So, I guess it is nearly impossible not to loose weight. Right???? That is my biggest worry.

A place for bandsters in their 60's
claramae replied to Oregondaisy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Gayle---Yours is the most inspirational story I have ever read. You give me encouragement. I too am depressed. I too am diabetic and have arthirtis. I have had knee replacement and just recently hip replacement that is still giving me problems. I cannot shop for long periods of time and cannot do most of any housework because of the pain I have after being on my feet. I do not want to wear a cute pair of size 10 jeans either. I do not want to wear a skimpy top. I want to feel like a human again. Be able to walk without the use of a cane. I want to be able to walk into a restaurant with my head held high. You put the words down exactly like I feel. I will get my band on Aug. 27th. That is day after tomorrow. Seems like I have been on this liquid forever!!! I have lost nearly 10 pounds however. I will be 59 years old in October. Thanks for your encouraging words. I just read them out loud to my husband. Gives him hope that soon he will not be doing nearly all the house chores!!!! -
A place for bandsters in their 60's
claramae replied to Oregondaisy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey guys; I have been visiting the site for those over 50 and banded. I will get my band on the 27th of August. I will be 59 in October. So, there are a few of us out there. The thing is, if this was available when I was 40, I would have done it then. But, alas, here I am at almost 59 and getting a band. We have different health issues than we did when we were in our 30's and 40's. Good to be here with you'll. -
Ok. This liquid diet stinks---help me!!
claramae replied to claramae's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi AllAboutMe(Mary), I feel for you at work. I honestly do not know what I would do if I was still working. I am retired. I worked for a utility company (31 years) and I processed payments for electric bills. They frowned upon it if we had too many potty breaks. So, I feel for you. My surgery is the 27th and it cannot get here soon enough. Hang in there. You can do it. -

Candle and Sheli---I have to be at hospital at 7 a.m. Monday. My surgery is at 8:50. I will be so happy to get this over and on to the next stage. I never thought I would be looking forward to cream of wheat!!! Yesterday they decided at the last minute that I must have a stress test!!!! Because of my hip surgery, I could not do the thread mill, so they did the nuclear test. I was there for 4 hours. Finally at 3:15, I threw a fit, waiting for the dr. to talk to me. I told them that if they did not get me out of here, I was walking out. I had not even had a Protein shake. Plus, I had a headache from hell. Dr. finally came in and of course my heart was fine, as I knew it was. I bawled all the way home from lack of even a Protein Drink. God, I was so mad at that dr. office. Oh, well. I will be thinking of you two Monday. We will have to Celebrate every August 27th, as our second birthdays!!! Talk later. -
I had to be at hospital this morning at 7 a.m. for pre-opt. I stopped at the business, as is required. I told them I was self pay. They told me to go get all my labs finished and stop by and they would call the insurance to see if they would pay. Well, I stopped back by and Praise God Above, Insurance is going to pay. I did not think they would because as of September 1st I will be on medicare. i figured Blue Cross would drag the ball until after September 1 and then I would be medicare's problem. Thank you God I am still on liquid diet. I have been on it since August 13. Never thought I would last this long without committing some major crime, like murder!!! But everyone in the house is still alvie and unharmed. :clap2:

Betty--congrats on the weight loss. I am so excited insurance is paying. We are retired and on fixed income and this was going to hurt, but we were gonna do it anyway. Now, we don't have to.

Insurance has been approved!!!!!!!!!!!! Four days before surgery. I went to hospital for pre-opt and I was ready(not willing) to pay my part. They said they would check with insurance and it was just approved!!!!!!! That is $16,500 we no longer have to cough up. I will have to change my signature line now. Just had to share the good news with you guys.:clap2:
