  1. Jenn--Thanks for the post. I do feel better. I guess sometimes things sort of just pile up on you. Sometimes you have to stand back and count your blessings. I have the most wonderful husband in the world. He waits on me hand and foot. I am so thankful that I found this site. Everyone here is in the same boat. No matter the question or concern, someone has been through and can answer or support you. I am happy you are doing so good. Keep up the good work. And I do feel better. I think it is "a woman thing"

    Looking for Answers

My name is Clara. I got my band on August 27th. I am 58 years old and I did it for my granddaughters. I want to see them grow up. I am from the DFW area. I used Dr. Bryce at Lone Star Lap Band. He operates out of Rockwall/Rowlett. Back to health issues. I am diabetic. I have had knee replacement, hip replacement. Knee surgery is the worse thing I have ever been through. My knee still bothers me after 5 years out from surgery. Anyway, I have lost about 21 pounds since I started liquid diet on Aug 13 and guess what???? My knee does not hurt anymore. Go figure. I also knew that the older I got, the more pounds I would pile on. So, that is how I made my decision. Good luck on whatever you decide. If you have any questions about Dr. Bryce, I will try my best to answer.

    Banded on Friday 9/7

Congrats Ghostbuster. I got my band on the 27th of August. Oh, and I still have the cotton mouth. Someone told me that is your body burning off fat. So, burn it all off as far as I am concerned. Hope you continue to feel this good.
  4. Candle, good to hear from you. Today has been up and down for me. Depression has set in. I think my hormones are changing, or something. Also been a little sick at tummy. Nothing taste good. So, I guess there will be days like that. Sounds like you are doing good.

    Sour taste in mouth

I did take a hard candy peppermint and put in my mouth. I did not crunch it. I let it melt. Did seem to help.
  6. Shelli---I will be on solid foods before you. I will be on mushies for 1 week and then solids. I am actually afraid to eat solids. Guess it is good to proceed with caution. Believe me I will not be fool hearted.
  7. Candle---When I get to mushies, like I said WHEN I get there, I can have tuna, chicken salad in the blender. Oh, and egg salad. I will be there in 8 days. I can have these wonderful concentions on crackers. I never thought I would look forward to blender tuna!!!!

    Sour taste in mouth

Nothing taste good today; well, as good as liquids can taste. I am struggling to get anything down. I am nearly 2 weeks out from surgery. I have a terrible taste in mouth and my tongue feels like it has a sweater on:(. Sorry for the description. But come on already!!! Plus feeling sorry for myself:think

    3 Month Pictures

Stephanie--I have been lurking about this site for some time. Just became active in August. It is a great site for information, support or just gabbing with others. I got my band on August 27th and again on the 29th. It slipped due to trama from hernia surgery. So, my day surgery turned out 5 day surgery!!!! But doing ok now.

    Music - Whats your flavor?

Uniqueone---It is my dream to go to a George Strait concert. But I can never get tickets. To be in the same room with him, breathing in the air he is breathing out---OMG.
  11. My doc told us that if we must drink Coke, drink it flat. Now, why would I do that???? He said that after 6 months, we could drink a coke.
  12. TrimKim, I told you in earlier post that you and I are on the same path. Well, guess what???? I am so depressed today, I can hardly breath without crying. I want to go to town, or something, but I wonder what and when and where will I eat(drink liquids). I do not know where I can go and have the strength to even walk through the store. And to top things off, I have diareaha(ex.spelling) so bad, I am afraid to leave the house. But I know this will pass too. I have a history of depression and I took medication everyday. Since surgery, I have been afraid to swallow the anti-depression meds. Perhaps I should give it a try. Seems like the depression is catching up with me. On top of dealing with this new life style, my nephew was in a horrible car wreck yesterday. It is a miracle he walked away(or was carried to the ambluance). My sister, his mom is recovering from her second round of chemo. She has luekemia. I keep thinking that this could have been so horrible. I should be thankful it wasn't and I really am. I just can't get the "what if" out of my mind. And if that were not enough, my youngest daughter has lost her teaching job due to her drinking problem, which she denies she has a problem with. She and I cannot have a conversation without screaming. Lord, I better go see if I can swallow that anti-depression med. Or maybe perhaps a cheeseburger!!!! Not really. Sorry for going on and on. t

    saw the surgeon yesterday

I saw Dr. Bryce yesterday. First time since surgery(surgies!!!). Anyway, he is proud of the weight loss I have had so far. I am on the liquids until the 17th and mushies for 1 week. I thought I was going to be on mushies for 3 weeks. Dr. Bryce said they have re-thought the program and now they say mushies for 1 week. I will get real food starting on the 24th of September:clap2:. The thought is great, but, it still scares me. Will I be able to control the amounts. Mostly, I think I will.:cry

    Band slipped.......Help !!!

Oh, sweetie, I am so sorry. But it is not the end of the world. But I understand how upset you are. It can and will be fixed. I got my band on the 27th of August. Can you believe mine slipped even before I got out of recovery. I had a very large hernia dr had to repair and the trama from that made the band slip. Two days later, I was back in surgery and everything is fine now. So, try not to despair too much. Call your surgeon and he will do what he has to do to fix it. Please keep me posted. I went through the same thing and I know how upset you are feeling. Hang in there. Let me know.

    Just beginning....questions

I got my band on the 27th of August. The only pre-surgery test I did not have done is the sleep study. As far as the Protein drinks, I hate them, hate them, hate them. But, I put on my big girl panties and do what I have to do. You can put vanilla extract, raspberry extract, or any extract you like and it does help some. But I guess that is part of the pain (Protein shakes) we must endure!!! This is a great site for gathering information and talking to people that are experiencing the same things you are. Good luck and keep me posted.
  17. Elizabeth--the reason they want you on a liquid diet before surgery is that your liver will shrink. If your liver has too much fatty tissue, they could call off the surgery. That was a risk I was not willing to take. Also, it gives you a jump start on your weight loss and also shows the surgeon your determination to stick to the program.

    3 Month Pictures

Stefanie--I am so proud of you. You give me encouragement. And no, I could not imagine going this alone. I have found so many people in the same boat that I am in. I thought I was the only one that hated to have my picture taken. Well, I see that most of us felt that way. I have only had my band since August 27th; too early for before and after pictures. I am afraid my before would look the same as the after for now. But that will change. Keep up the good work.

    3 Days Post Op

:hungry:Did any of you ever actually think we would be sitting here at our computers exchanging ideas on putting tuna in a blender??? Or eggs? One year ago, I was worrying if we had enough syrup for the stack of pancakes. We have come a long way,:clap2:

    3 Days Post Op

Yes, I agree. The home made chicken soup is better. Just strain the vegs and chicken out and you have a great meal----lol
  22. Elinrw--I just read your post regarding hip and knee replacement. You are right, there is no age cut off from joint replacement, but why lapband?? Knee replacement was the most painful experience of my life. That knee still pains me even after 4 years of replacement. However, since I have lost nearly 20 pounds, the knee does not bother me. Go figure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I need a lil INFO

I will put it simply----LIQUID DIET. Works everytime.
  24. RedGirl, I am sorry you feel so awful. It will get better, I promise. I got my band on the 27th of August. I have the nightmare of all hernia stories. Dr. Bryce said it was the largest he had ever seen. As a result of the trama of repairing the hernia, my band slipped. And I am talking about, I could not even pass the barium swallow test the first day; nor the second day. They tried twice the second day. I never went home. The evening of day 2, I was so sick and vomiting this funky stuff. Next day, I was in surgery 2.5 hours. I had to get a new band because the first one slipped due to the trama of that hernia. So, my day surgery ended up 5 days in the hospital. I promise you will be better by this time tomorrow.

    Music - Whats your flavor?

I love country, country. I would leave my sweet wonderful husband for George Strait. And there is nothing like Texas country music. George Strait is my favorite. Martina Mcbride; no one in the world can sing like her. Have you ever heard her sing The Star Spangled Banner. It will make you cry. Brooks and Dunn are great too. Their song, "I Believe", will make you cry. Oh, I almost forgot Willie Nelson. My gosh, I love to hear him sing. I love to hear him sing "Georgia". Now he is one true Texas----minus the weed and the dope that has consumed his life!!
