    Freaking out...

Ok, first of all, I am so glad your Mom is ok. It could have gone the other way. That would upset me too!!! Bless both of you. They decided to make me take a stress test at the last minute. Due to my joint problems, I had to have a nucular stress text. I honestly tought I would not make it out alive!!! But I got through ok and my ticker is in great shape. They are doing this because of what happened to your Mom. Don't want the same thing happening to you. Post me and let me know what happens.

    oldies

Hello. My name is Clara. I will be 59 in October. I got my band on August 27th. So far I have lost 27 pounds. Has it been easy? Not hardly. But you have to make up your mind that this will be your new life!!! Take it a day at a time. There is a thread for people 60 and older. I have been reading that thread and the others. The people on the 60 and older have different reasons for getting the band. I guess that we have figured out if we do nothing, we will be facing the grim reaper or a nursing home in some years. So, there for our choice is made easy. Please keep us posted on what you will do. There are lot of people that can help you along the way. Good luck.
  3. I had complications after surgery. I had a very large hernia repaired. Looking back, I should have had the hernia repaired and a week later the band. The trama was so great, my band slipped. But of course Dr. repaired the problem. Do not worry. You will do fine. It is normal to be scared.

    Don't look at me!!!!

I agree with you. It makes me uncomfortable if someone mentions my weight loss. I just kind of like to blend in with the crowd. Someone mentioned in a post to this comment that they felt invisable. I have had 3 hip surgeries(replacements) on the same hip in less than a year. When I go to Walmart, I must use one of the electric carts, or else I cannot make the entire trip. Well, I must become invisible while using the cart. People expect me to get out of their way. Yet it is ok for them to park their cart in the middle of the isle while they study which can of Soup to get. They also try to out run me to a display and then park it, right in front of me. Then sometimes I think they think the reason I am using the cart is because I am fat and lazy. Oh, and if something is out of reach, forget it baby in getting someone to assist you. It just does not happen. Did mean to rant and rave off the subject of the original comment. :angry

A place for bandsters in their 60's

I am doing real good on the mushies. I have discovered Egg Beaters. They are really pretty good. I usually eat some form of fish everyday. I am not a big fish fan, unless it is fried catfish. But I found that fish goes down real easy. Next week I go on solids. I am a little afraid. Has anyone gone on solids after just one week of mushies. Don't get me wrong, I am happy. A little scared. Has anyone else gone on solids after just 1 week of mushies?
  6. It just upsets me to no end when a doctor tries to push bypass. The lapband is not that invasive and less complications. Plus he does not have to cut and rearrange your insides. This is your body and your life. I recommend finding another doctor that will have your best interest at heart. I have had my band since August 27th. I have lost 25 pounds and could not be happier. Consider getting a second opinion.

    Whats the worst you've heard?

The word I hate the most is "obese". Sounds like an ugly animal. After 3 hip replacements in less than a year, I filed for social security disability. After nearly a year and 2 rejections, I hired an attorney. We had a hearing after several months. There was a doctor, a vocation specialist there and the judge. The dr. said that due to my multiple surgeries and my inability to stand, sit or lift, and MY OBESITY, I could not work. Thank God he was on my side!!!!
  8. I had the same problem with the diarrhea too. Dr. told me I may have become lactose intolarant. I got some of the lactose free milk and it seem to help.
  9. yes, I am having trouble getting as much liquids as I should. In fact, I have been battling a bladder infection for 2 weeks and am on my secnd round of antibotics. I know it is because I am not drinking enough water.

They told me to wear no make up. They also told me to have no hair spray on my hair. Believe me. You won't care if you have make up on or not!!!

    I had to tell someone!

Chinokitty----CONTRATS!!!!!! That is great news. Keep up the good job!!!!
  14. First day on mushies and I am worried. This is what I had today. Breakfast--oatmeal, 1 cup coffee lunch--tuna dinner--1 salmon pattie and 1/2 baked potato. I did not even eat the whole potato. The thing I am worried about is I had dinner 4 1/2 hours ago and still am not hungry. Does that mean that I over ate???? I am worried. I never did throw up or any thing like that. Everything went down real good and stayed down real good. Did I over do it?????

    Whats the worst you've heard?

Laura---There is a saying; "What goes around, comes around". And believe it, because I have seen it time and time again. I wish you could run into your "friend" some day and causually say to her "What happened to you"!!!! I don't care what anyone says, revenge is so very sweet!!! Hang in there girl. You are doing good.
  16. It is my official first day on mushies. I am a little worried that I over did it for dinner. This is what I ate today: Breakfast---oatmeal, 1 cup coffee lunch---tuna dinner--salmon pattie and half baked potato. I am worried I over ate at dinner. I had dinner at 6 p.m. I was very full. It is 10:30 p.m. and still full. Should I be feeling like this, or is it because I overate at dinner. :angry

    mushies --- wonderful

Today was my official day for mushies. Today I had oatmeal for breakfast. Lunch was tuna. Very, very good. Dinner was salmon patty and half baked potato. I really think I over ate and I am a little worried. I should not ate the whole salmon patty and perhaps skipped the potato. I promise to do better tomorrow.:car:

  19. I started mushies today. I have had scrambled eggs, chicken casserole zipped to death in a blender and now I am eating cream Soup. The problem is that I am sooooooooo very hungry and scared to death of going overboard. I made egg salad with a little mayo, relish and dash of salt. But, I cannot have bread or crackers and I am thinking "WTF!!! What do I do with it now". I am honestly afraid of eating too much of the mushies. This is what I know I can have: scrambled eggs, egg salad, tuna, oatmeal . Ok, than what else. I have been looking forward to mushies and now I am not satisfied. I just hope that I can look back on this miserable time in 4 months and say "It was worth it". For now, I am scared, miserable and hungry.:help::think:think:think

I started mushies and I am scared!!!

Thanks Kacee and yes, I do like cottage cheese. Someone also suggested a baked potato(minus the sour cream and butter). So, I will enjoy the mushies. I really did have to struggle to get this far.

    Hypoglycemic? blood sugar question

I think you should get some pointers from your doctor. Perhaps when you feel like your blood sugar is dropping, sip on some apple juice. But, I think you should discuss with your doctor. I am sure he has dealt with this before with others in the past. Good luck.

    Ok, I did it!!!!!

I was to go on mushies tomorrow, the 17th after being on liquids since Aguust 13th. My daughter, my son in law and beautiful twin granddaughters were for the week end. This morning, I thought, to heck with it; one day will not matter and I had scrambled eggs. It was wonderful. Everything went down and stayed down!!!! For lunch, we had made a chicken enchilida casserole. I took some and put in a blender and it was great. I now have the satisified feeling. I made sure I did not eat too much. For one thing, I had every adult at the table watching me!!!! So, I think I will go in the kitchen and boil some eggs and make egg salad. I feel like i am planning a feast!!! :clap2::confused:

Having a hard time with hunger

Dear Elizabeth, Hang in there. You can do it. I was about 12 days after I got my band that I got so hungry, I could have chewed by leg off. Thank goodness it was just one day. Be sure and have a protein drink. It helps to make the hunger go away. Hang in there!!!
  24. claramae

    Help! I am never hungry

I did not get hungry until about 2 weeks after my surgery. Then one day, i thought I would chew off my leg. It was a miserable day. Then next day, I was able to keep it under control. Thank God above, I was able to go on mushies just a few days later. Count your blessings; but I have a feeling you will feel the hunger pains sooner or later.

    Started mushies one day early

I was supposed to start mushies tomorrow. My daughter, son inlaw and two precious twin granddaughters were here for the week end. I decided to start mushies one day early. I had scrambled eggs for breakfast. Everything went down and stayed down. For lunch, we had chicken enchilida casserole. I put some in blender and ate a little. Everything went down and stayed down. I am now boiling eggs for egg salad. Life is looking up!!!!:clap2: I have the satisfied feeling finally. Certainly not too full. I did not want to get too full. For one thing, every adult at the table was watching me, thinking I was on the brink of failure!!!! Ha, I showed them.
