15 bean soup / Morningstar Farms

Laurend, I have made the soup you are taking about. But, I love beans. Could eat them 2-3 times a week. My favorite meal(or was) is cornbread and red beans. God, I love that meal. Rather have that than steak!!!
  2. Oh, I agree with you. I used to just love tomato soup. I do not care if I ever see another can of tomato soup as long as I live. As far as the protein shakes, I hated them from the beginning and still do!!!

    I had to tell someone!

NanaRenan, where have you been. I have not seen any of your posts lately. How are you doing????

    I need advice guys!

Well, Lauren, I am one of the oldest people on this site. I will be 59 in October. I just got my band on August 27th. Just look at it this way; do it now instead of when you are 59 like me. Of course, if they had perfected the lapband like it is now, I would have done it 10 years ago. Oh, who am I kidding???? Ten years ago, I was trying to loose this weight. As far as the pain goes; I have had several surgeries, all pretty major. This was a walk in the park compared to the knee replacement and the hip replacement. All of that was caused by my weight. So, in my book, you are making the right decision.

    I am madder than $%*

Well, thanks for all the hugs. I got through the evening. I ate my tuna, while my step daughter ate 2 hot dogs and a handful of cookies. She had lapband in October of last year and wonders why she has lost only 20 pounds. Well, go figure!! But thanks for letting me rant and rave and thanks for all the hugs.

My step daughter and her family said they were coming out to visit today at about 2:30. Well, that is fine because I am not cooking for anyone. Plus, she has had lap band too. Anyway, they just called and said they are coming at 4:30 instead. Just in time for dinner. Well, that really pissed me off. They never come out here(they live 20 miles away) without us cooking up a ton of food. But, I can count on 2 fingers in 25 years that she has cooked for us. So, anyway DH is feeling guilty that we are not cooking and so he is off to the store to get stuff to cook. Hot dogs, chips, dip. Now, how am I supposed to turn my back on that???? I am 1 month out from lapband. I started solids this week and I am having a difficult time not over eating. This is very inconsiderate on everyone's part, I think. God, help me!!!! I am so angry that I do not know how I can be civil to them when they get here. Plus, she is raising her two grandkids and they are wilder than wolves. Pray for me!!! Hopefully you will not see me on CNN of FoxNews tonight. P.S. I will be the one clutching a hot dog in both hands!!!!:hungry:

What do you do for a living?

I am a forced retiree. I worked for the largest electric provider in Texas for 31 years. My job was outsourced overseas!!! Anyway, I was ready to go and I practically begged them to take my job. I drove 100 miles a day to and from work in all the traffic. So, I am a happy retiree!!!!

    I could eat an elephant!

I got my band on August 27th. I have been fairly successful in my weight loss, but it has slowed down. At this current moment, I am so hungry, I could chew my leg off. I go see my dr. next week and I hope he schedules a fill for me.
  10. I started solids this past week end. My weight goes up and down between 2 - 3 pounds all the time. So, I too am woried about weight gain with the solids. I will be watching what others post.
  11. Welcome. I got my band on August 27th of this year. I have not had a fill yet, but I will soon. I have lost 28 pounds so far. There is a thread that you may be interested in. I noticed you are in your 50's. There is a thread for those of us over 50. I will try to find the direct link and mail it to you.

    any good stories out there

Well, Joanie, I could go in for an ingrown toenail and next week have to have open heart surgery. So, don't use me as an example. I had to have a very large hernia repaired on the same day as the lap band. Due to the swelling and the trama from the hernia repair, my band slipped before I even got out of recovery. Two days later (i was in hospital from Monday to Friday) Dr. went in to see what was going on. He had to replace the band. Like I said, don't use my case as an example. Everyone is different. When I had knee replacement, I had a blood clot. When I had hip replacement, I came down with a horrible infection. So, complications are normal for me!!! Most of the people sail through. After the dr. fixed the problem, I have had no problems. I did not have the terrible gas pains like most of the people experience. Would I do it over again----you darn right I would. Good luck on your decision and research.

    any good stories out there

Well, Joanie, I am fairly new at this having only had my band since August 27th, but I have lost 28.2 pounds so far. I cannot tell you when I lost 28 pounds!!!!

    Which state would you choose?

Good question. I have lived in Texas all my life. I live in North Texas just east of Dallas. We do have 4 seasons here. Sometimes they do not last the prescribed amount of time before we have a severe weather change. It can be 75 at noon and then 35 by 10 p.m. We have ice storms, tornados, blistering heat and chilling cold. I would not live anywhere else but Texas. I would perhaps like to live on the Texas coast, like Corpus Christi, but the hurricanes keep me away. So, I would not want to live anywhere but the Lone Star State of Texas.

A place for bandsters in their 60's

I take celebrex for my arthuritis. I stopped taking it because of fear that I could not swallow it. And also, I thought that if I lost weight, my joints would be better. Well, I have lost 28 pounds and they are not any better and the lack of celebrex, I am paying dearly with the pain. so, I started taking celebrex 2 days ago. They go down real easy. Perhaps when I loose 100 pounds, I can give up the celebrex. What was I thinking????
  16. I am starting solid food tomorrow. I pushed that date up by one day. Hubby and I were in town and neither one had much to eat today. We stopped at AppleBee's. I love their Quesidia Burger(excuse spelling). It is a very lean burger toasted between 2 flour tortilla's. We ordered one and split it. From my half, I ate only 1/4 of it. When that first bite went past my lips, I thought I had died and gone to heaven!!!! I took my time and chewed, chewed, chewed. I brought the left overs home for my meal later on. I have lost 28 pounds since August 13. I got my band on the 27th of August and have been on liquids and then mushies. So, this was a real treat. :amen:

A place for bandsters in their 60's

The first 3 days on the liquid diet are the hardest. After that, it gets easier. I had a hard time of it, but I decided that it was mind over matter. I knew this was something that I had to do in order to get ready for surgery. You can do it. Hang in there!!!!

    head hunger or physical???

Which is the hardest for you? Head hunger or physical hunger? For me I think it is head hunger!!! Sometimes, I have the nibbles and nothing I can do will take my mind off food. I can ignore my tummy growling for food though. Even DH is watching me like a hawk. He caught me trying to nibble(on healthy stuff) and he could hardly yell at me because his mouth was full of peanuts!!! I just asked him if he was enjoying the peanuts.:eyebrows::faint:

First real food in 6 weeks!!!!!

Oh, what a wonderful day!!! I got to have solids today. We stopped at AppleBee's and I had a Quesidea Burger. It is a very lean burger toasted between 2 flour tortillas. Hubby and I split one. I ate only 1/4 of my half. I can remember when I could wolf down the entire thing, plus fries and 2 glasses of tea!!!! Anyway, brought the rest of mine for later. I ate the burger at 4 p.m. and it is now 8 p.m. and still not hungry!!!! I do miss my tea while eating!!!. I just order water with 2 lemons and then I make lemonade by adding 1 sweet n low. I just sip on it while waiting for the food to arrive.

  21. I just graduated from mushies to solid food. I was on mushies for 1 week, as per doctor. You might try tuna with a small dab of mayo., sweet relish and very fine chopped up onion. Also, the same with egg salad. Scrambled eggs also are permitted and as well as cottage cheese. Not very exciting, but better than liquids. Good luck and hang in there. It will be worth it.

    fatnomore just joined

Welcome!!! This is a great place to get information and support!!! I will be 59 in October and just got my band on the 27th of August. Congrats on your up coming band.
  23. My son-in-law was bite by a copperhead, not once, but twice. It got him twice. They live in the country west of Fort Worth,Tx and they are always killing snakes. Anyway, my daughter was rushing him to hospital and got pulled over for speeding!!! Anyway, they let her go without a ticket and can you believe the little hospital she rushed him to did not have the anti-snake stuff. They had to care flight him to Ft.Worth and by then he was having convulsions.
  24. I asked my surgeon and he told me when I start getting hungry. WELL, HELLO!!!!! Does he mean a hunger that I cannot satisfy, or just a tiny growling in the tummy. I am thinking 6 weeks out and that will be the 2nd week of October. And I have a very important question. Please answer:DOES THE NEEDLE HURT???? AND HOW LONG DOES THE PROCEDURE TAKE. I AM REALLY FREAKING OUT ABOUT THE NEEDLE:help:/

    Iam scheduled

This was my first abdominal surgery. I have had a ton of other surgeries. They do not compare to this one. In my books, it was a walk in the park(after they got the hernia issue cleared up, but that is a whole other story). I did not suffer from the gas pains. Once I got home, I never threw up. I am now on mushies and everything goes not great and stays down. Next week I go on solid foods and that may be a whole new ball game. You should do fine. Just remember, nothing lasts forever!!!! Any discomfort is a small price for the ultimate goal!!!
