    Insurance and deductible payment

I had to pay it upfront because it is considered an "elective" surgery.
  2. I was sleeved on the 20. I had about 5 different nurses during my hospital stay. Each and every one of them questioned me about how I was able to have the surgery, because I wasn't "fat". I don't know how I feel about this. Not everybody have the surgery because of extreme obesity. I have diabetes, sleep apnea, and hypertension. My BMI is 35. Obviously I did it for health reasons, but I feel extremely judged. It's one of the reasons why I haven't told anyone about the surgery (except for hubby of course). Anybody else have the surgery for their medical conditions?

    Crushed meds

My surgeon also advised me not to bother crushing pills. Luckily for me, my meds were pretty small, I was able to swallow them without any issues.

    Hungry

I'm 4 days out and I'm hungry too. Everytime I see a commercial about food, my mouth waters. Bacon thick cheeseburgers, KFC, steaks and potatoes, Chilli hotdogs with colesaw, the new taco melt....you name it. I want it! Lol but with that said, I know I can't have it, so I just have a protein shake instead. Matter-of-fact, I think 90% of my day is spent thinking about these foods. My stomach even growls a little. Smh.
  5. Lol Laura Vern that pic is years old. Trust me, I am still considered "obese". My starting weight is 246. According to data, my weight should be 160.

    Blue Cross Blue Shield Approval

I started the process in late August 2013.I have BCBs and I was approved in November 2013. I didn't have to wait 6 months... But if they would have wanted me to wait, the nurse said I could bypass that if I could get my doctor to send in his notes for the past year to show that I was having issues with controlling my diabetes. Luckily, I didn't have to wait though
  7. JeanZ, my doctor didnt hesitate either. He said I was a great candidate for the surgery. I also didn't have any trouble getting approved by my insurance company. I guess they could see that it would be smart for them too in the long run. My insulin pump alone was $6000.
  8. Thanks for the encouragement jdub. I have type2 also and it has progressively gotten worse over the years. I went from taking oral medication, to insulin, to being on the pump. Of course there is a domino effect with diabetes. I gained weight which cost me to get hypertension and sleep apnea. I'm pretty tall, so I tended to carry the weight well too. I looked ok on the outside but my body was literally killing me from the insides out. I'm excited to hear you are no longer diabetic, I pray for this outcome also!

    Sleeved on the 17

I understand your pain! I was sleeved on the 20th. I wasn't expecting to be in so much pain. I've had a c-section and a hysterectomy, but the sleeve hurt the worse. When I awoke from surgery, they asked me my pain level and I replied 10! And then I was so nauseated, I couldn't tolerate liquids and had to stay an extra day in the hospital. It was rough. I'm on day 3 now and reading these boards helps me because I know I'm not alone
