    Pregnant Mama Check-in

Hi Mama-To-Be's! I'm 13 months post-op and 15 weeks pregnant with my first child. So far, I've gained about 2 lbs. I was concerned that I wasn't eating and gaining enough since I eat so little now but my baby is growing just fine, according to my OB. My morning sickness has calmed down a lot, however, I can no longer eat sweets especially chocolate because it will immediately make me nauseous. I'm not sure if it's a result of pregnancy or if it is a result of my new sleeve. Either way, it's a good thing. Early on in my pregnancy, my eating habits were not very good but I was instantly reminded at how sluggish I used to feel pre-op and now with a bun in the oven, I really am what I eat. I now make healthier choices but I do satisfy some of my cravings here and there. I hope to find out in my next appointment what the sex is. My favorite part about being pregnant is knowing that I can actually get pregnant! When I was nearly 300 lbs, I thought I couldn't get pregnant because it just never happened for us. I became pregnant shortly after losing 100 lbs. It also feels good knowing that I am now much healthier so that I can do fun things with my child that I probably wouldn't have been able to before. I didn't hit my goal weight yet but this is a blessing so losing weight will be a concern once I'm able to hold my baby in my arms! :-) Congratulations to you all, ladies!

    Terrible Dieter's

I was once a terrible yo-yo dieter and I've done almost everything in the book. When I got sleeved, I started this journey with a mindstate that this is not just a diet but a lifestyle change. I think getting sleeved was the biggest incentive because I didn't want to start this journey and bring old habits with me which is why it took me a long time to finally go through with the surgery. I follow my nutritionist's plan and once in a while I'll treat myself to something but make up for it by spending an extra 20-30 mintues at the gym but I do not beat myself up for it, AT ALL! No regrets! Another thing I do different now is that I have fun when I'm cooking. I used to always stick to salads and the idea of having that for the rest of my life always made me fall off track. Salads are wonderful but I like variety and I don't get bored now because I'm always trying new things and making healther alternatives to foods that I love. As ironic as it sounds, I have a better appreciation for food now than I ever did before lol.

    Good way to shock yourself....

Yes! I'm also 3 months post op and I did just that this weekend. I can now fit a pair of size 16 jeans from Gap that I wore in high school! 3 months ago, I was a size 18/20.

    to my hispanic sleevers!

I'm Puerto Rican and I still use adobo to season my food. I even make quinoa almost how I made arroz amarillo. I've haven't had frituras yet because I know I can't have just one! Lol

How long were you out of work

I was back 6 days after.. luckily, my co-workers treated me like a delicate flower when I got back lol so I didn't have to do a lot of moving around.

    Lower Abdominal Pain

Exactly how mine went away! I woke up one morning and realized I was sleeping on my stomach and wondered how the hell I was able to do all that moving without waking up to that pain. The moment I got out of bed, I sneezed and was so happy that it didn't hurt. I was finally able to put on my socks and shoes without any help! Last night, I was cleaning and bending down and it felt amazing to have my range of motion back. Ever since that pain went away, I feel like I'm back to my old self, minus the 30 lbs. This pain only lasted about a week. For those experiencing this, it will be over soon!
  8. I make my shakes at night and freeze them. I let it thaw for a few hours and by late morning, it's drinkable. I'm sitting at my desk right now and it's still nice and cold.

    HELP! Carnation instant breakfast?

The only protein drinks I've been drinking is premier protien. I hate it if I just drink it alone. What I do now is add about an 2 oz. of skim milk and sprinkle some ground cinammon and I feel like I'm drinking a glass of chocolate milk, plus, I'm getting just a little extra protein with the milk.

    Healthier Skin

I've noticed a tremendous change in my skin, especially my face, since after the surgery. I always knew eating healthy contributes to healthier skin but I always prefered to spend a lot of money on skin care products. Since I've been eating so clean, my skin hasn't broken out at all. My skin is also glowing. I'm amazed and mad that I didn't start eating healthy sooner. It makes me realize how much junk I was putting into my body and how much my body was responding and physically showing me to stop. Has anyone else noticed this change?

    Question for the ladies...TMI

I've had mine for 2 weeks already and I'm impatiently waiting for it to go away. Usually, mine last from 4-5 days but this is ridiculous. I'm glad I'm not the only one. I think it's my body going into shock but 2 weeks is a tad bit dramatic.

    Shrimp?

Ladies and Gents! I decided to hold off on the shrimp and got the broiled fish instead which was PERFECT! It was very soft and easy going down and only $6 since it's off the kid's menu. I also had soft broccoli on the side. Those red lobster biscuits were tempting but I behaved! Thanks for all of your input!

    Shrimp?

I'm going out to eat tonight with my hubby and I'm looking at the menu's nutritional facts and I've settled on garlic-grilled shrimp skewer (90 calories) from the kid's menu. I'm on the third phase (soft food) and I can have fish like salmon, tilapia, red snapper, etc. Does this include shrimp? My mother is questioning if its a good idea because it's a little heavier. I never noticed this because I used to eat like a monster lol.. Thoughts?

    Lower Abdominal Pain

Yes! He said it's a common side effect and it's my muscles and body recuperating. He said that if I begin to experience fever, vomiting, and/or diarrhea, to go to the ER. I hope this goes away soon, it's making me miserable and keeping me from being active.
