My weight loss journey started 5 years ago. My highest weight was 265 and at 5'2" I was suffering joint pain, high blood pressure and elevated cholesterol. I was prediabetic. As a person who works in health care I was a poster child of what not to do. Since I live overseas I got banded there but there are no support groups to help along the way. I got filled 5 times but never found my sweet spot. Finally 1.5 years ago I opened the band completely as I was throwing up and not able to eat protein as a result I became anemic.
The positive part, I reached my goal of 160/size 10-12 through teaching spinning, running my 1st 5k run. However , through all this the vomiting became worse. I could no longer drink water after eating (even after4 hours). I had terrible regurge at night and beltching. I could only sleep on my left side but still would awaken with severe gastric reflux if I ate or drank anything within 4 hours of sleep. The constant vomiting, reflux, poor nutrition, poor sleep, dehydration have forced me to have the band evaluated. As I feared , the band was removed on December 23rd 2913. So here I am looking for support for the second part of my journey . Learning to eat properly and find balance in my food choices. I learned to incorporate exercise during the past 5 years but not necessarily how to give my body the nutrition it needs without gaining weight. I look forward to reading what members have done since they removed their gastric bands.
