August Bandsters How are you Doing So Far

I was banded at NYU by Dr. Kurian and she is very aggressive with the fills. I am 4 weeks out and had my first fill the other day. She filled me with 3cc's and I am going back for another fill in 4 weeks. She says that you have to work the band, not let the band work you. The fill was not bad at all. I was a little nervous and all but it went great.....but I am hungry.....very hungry. People have said that it could take up to a week or two to feel the effects of the fill.....so we shall see. If not, I might be getting into Dr. Kurian before the 4 weeks is up.

    First Fill

HI All- Sounds like everyone is getting ready for their first fills. Mine is tomorrow. My doctor doesnt use fluro, so we will see. But I do know that I have to be on liquids for two days and then mushies for two. Its amazing how different the treatment and follow up depending on the doctors. Well good luck to all of you, I will let you know how I have made out.

August Bandsters How are you Doing So Far

Hi Miss Nilsa, I too was banded at NYU but by Dr. Kurian. I was banded on Aug. 10th. I have lost 19 lbs since my consult and 10 lbs since surgery date. I am still on mushies until wednesday. I feel a lot of restrication......breakfast is an egg, lunch is 3 oz. of tuna and dinner is a mushed up meatball........love that! I find that to be plenty. Tongiht I did treat myself to a 1/2 cup of ice cream....Dont get me wrong, I need to spoil myself once a month at least! So you dont feel full at all? Do you feel like you can eat normal? I am going for a fill next week so I will see how that goes..... It is hard to get adjusted too......The thing I have most difficulty is not being able to drink when I eat and not to mention not being able to drink diet coke.... I quit smoking about 2 weeks before my surgery and stopped drinking diet coke the night before my surgery. So basically, if I could have a diet coke and a cig right now, I would be very happy, but it is so hard because I need to never pick up a cigarette again and they say diet coke or carbonation is really bad for you. I dont know where to channel my emotions because it cant be with food or tobacco..... Ughh....it is hard to get used to but I keep telling myself it is important to me to be healthy and happy with myself. Good luck to you fellow NYU Bander!

    Rock bottom

Hang in there. I went through the same thing. I was diagnosed with PCOS about 5 years ago and then the anxiety and depression set in. One med after another and with each one, I was gaining 20lbs. It was unreal to see myself blow up like that. As sad as I was about it, I would eat to make me feel better. My lowest was 137 in 2000 and here I was 219 in 2007.........unbelievable. I started looking into the Lap Band in May. Went for the seminar and then started everything right away. I work in the schools so wanted to have it done over the summer. To my suprise, everything went very quickly and I got banded on Aug. 10th. My insurance has been wonderful and approved it right away. I had my endocronologist write me a letter stating that I have under his care for years for all of this and the weight and they took that as my 6 month supervised weight loss. I also had my gynecologist write me a letter as well stating the same thing and that they felt the surgery was medically appropriate for me to live a healthy life. It really helped because I sent them to my insurance directly before the doctors got a chance. They knew it was coming so by the time the surgical coordinator put in the pre-determination, it took less than 3 weeks to approve. I found out two days before my surgery that i was good to go. Hang in there and be proactive. You have to make things happen. Good luck to you!
  6. Congratulations...........I too was banded on the 10th and I am extremely swollen and filled with air that has caused me gas pains. Gas X has worked for me and walking helps a lot! This is the greatest thing, I just have to get used to it. I was told that we should just do liquids for the first 2 weeks after surgery because you dont want to enlarge your pouch- I would wait for the egg until the two weeks. Are you feeling hungry? I dont feel like eating anything....I am full after I drink 2 oz. of soup.
  7. I guess I am a CRAZY ATE! I was just banded August 10 by Dr. Kurian at NYU. Love her! Anyway, I am excited to hear what other people are feeling and experiencing.
