Comparison: Alexian Brothers / Kane Center and University of Illinois Chicago
cathyf replied to almosthome's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I to had Dr. Guske and St. Alexian for the hospital and agree 100 per cent with everything "sugarfreeme" had to say. Had my sleeve done on 3/18 and do my followup appointments this Tuesday. No complications and always treated wih the utmost respect by everyone at the hospital and the Kane Center. Dr. Kane was actually the one who came to check me out of the hospital and see how I was doing. They truelly work as a team with the patient being their true priority. Only place I went to so nothing else to compare it to but have no complaints. -
Good luck, had mine 9 days ago and pretty much pain free, working on getting enough Protein in cause appetite non existant, have to force myself to eat at this point. What a diff erence

I also had diahrea the 2nd and third day, nurse told me to never trust a fart(so true) it went away after day 4, this is day 6, low grade temp, no pain meds milk making me a little nauseous so Protein shakes and carnation Breakfast with milk not settling well. Needing a lot of rest but also 60 years old so waited a little late in life to do this, walking and sipping still the key. One of they lucky ones to sleep on my side as soon as I went home and didn't get a drain just 5 small incisions. Are you giving yourself shots to prevent blood clots. Go back to surgeon on the first so guess i'll be taking them until then at least, good thing they are pretty painless.

sent home with liquid vicodin and not big on taking pain medication so tried not to take any on my second day home and paying for it now. woke up at midnight with pain out of control and now having to get on top of it again. eating small amounts, walking and sip, sip, sip but not working. Hospital kept telling me to use meds before pain got to bad cause it is hard to get back on top of it. feeling a little better 30 min. later but probably be sleeping in recliner tonight. Need to learn to listen to my body better and keep using the ice and heating pad also, I know it will get better just need to whine a little here and use the resources I have to keep the pain down and stay active.

Probably have popsicle and ice tea for breakfast. Really ready to go home. All in all not near as bad as i thouhgt it would be.

I am also getting my sleeve surgery done on Tuesday. Not as nervous as I thought I would be, was concerned about possibly having a drain put in but talked to surgeon yesterday and he said nope, just the 5 incisions. Doing it 100miles from home so he's keeping me three nights instead of two to make sure the ride home is more comfortable, said if I had nausea it should be better with the additional day. Best of luck on your surgery and see you on our new sleeved journey. Cathy

Had pre-op physical on Friday work this week and have surgery on the 18th. On the Protein Shake diet, starting week two and it is getting easier, found that if I make it the night before and freeze it that it takes care of my need to chew something, didn't realize how much I missed chewing! Getting nervous and excited at the same time. I know I will be fine just want it over and on my way to my new sleeved life. Cathy

I am excited and nervous have anxiety issues and work at a high stress job. Just wish I was off til after surgery. LIquid diet gonna be tough when I work with behavioral disordered teen girls, they tend to know how to work your last nerve and afraid my patience will be short between now and the time for surgery.

New to the site got my surgery date of 3/18 at St. Alexin in Hoffman Estates with Dr. Guskey. Start with the preop shakes on Tues. Getting nervous and anxious. Wheaning off of some neuropathy meds cause can't get liquid forms so nerves are a little rattled. Anyone else ever use Dr. Guskey. Seems like a pretty compansionate guy. Cathy
