  1. My blood sugars went to normal the day after surgery. They have been normal for 8.5 years now. Most Type II patients will find immediate results depending on how long they have been diabetic. They have been doing the intestinal portion of the DS on thin Type II's for over 20 years in Europe as a cure for TD2.
  2. The DS is no longer reserved for higher BMI's. There are a LOT of lightweights, BMI 35-40 that have had the DS and do very well. A DS surgeon can adjust the stomach size and length of the common channel to be appropriate for lightweight patients. They have been doing the intestinal portion only on normal weight people in Europe for over 20 years to cure Type II diabetes. My diabetes was resolved the day of surgery. My blood sugars went to normal and have stayed there for 8 1/2 years.

    Vitamins and the DS

Your Vitamin and supplements that you take will be dictated by your labs. You need to be able to read and understand your lab reports and adjust accordingly. You should also have a full set of labs drawn pre-op to see if you are starting out deficient in anything and get it up before surgery. There is no "one-size-fits-all" with the DS as we will all absorb and malabsorb differently. I track my labs on an Excel spreadsheet so that I am aware of anything trending down or up too high. As a DSer, you want to be high-normal on most things. (not PTH or B6). Read your labs and react as needed.
  4. DS on 6/15/2005 with Dr. Marchesini in Curitiba, Brazil. 279 day of surgery - 135 now. I do have a scale and I maybe get on it once or twice a year.
