Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
mistymoon replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was self pay so I went to Mexico. I called middle of August and was banded Sept 5th. I hear all of everyone's frustration with all of the requirements you have to meet but I think I would not have had as many problems with the band had I had better preperation. In one year I have lost 70 lbs. I am grateful for that - don't get me wrong but I was not prepared emotionally and I have a lot of difficulties dealing with the ups and downs associated with the fills working/ not working etc. So IMHO be grateful for this preperation time and learn all about the lap band. Would I do it again ABSOLUTELY -

Angelshere Wow!Talk about differences in sizes - I weigh 281 also but I have to wear a size 24-26 And depending on make and/or quality they can be tight. I have a girl friend who weighs over 300 and swears she wears a size 20. Her clothes are always tight but I have always thought "yeah sure" Now maybe I better believe her. lol What gives with this???? Talk about no two snowflakes being alike looks like no two size vs weight ratio are the same either.:mad2: -

Does anyone know the proceedure code the doctors use to submit claims to your insurance co? I had surgery in MX and they don't know. I found v 45.86 but because that is not the usual 5 digit proceedure code I don't know if it is right..Help! -

Hi All i haven't posted on here for forever but I do stop by and read the posts. I got a message saying I haven't been posting so thought I would stop by before I was kicked off. lol I had my surgery in Sept of 07 In the first 4 months I lost 68 lbs. Since then I have been up and down 4 to 8 lbs. I was so motivated when I started but I just can't get going again. I know I am doing everything wrong - carbonated bev's, eating soft foods, PBing because not eating correctly. I see sooo many of you doing so well and I get down on myself for not sticking to the program. At least with the band I have not gone over my initial 330 and I know without it I would be over 350 now. Also I am always aware of it so I can't give up. one of these days I will keep going down instead of up and down.!!!!:crying: -

Thanks girls for the advice about the heartburn. BTW it is gone today ---I coulda just waited. lol The MRI is for my wrist. For about a year it has been very sore, swollen. hot to touch and has a bump on the side. Xrays show nothing is wrong so the Dr. has ignored it. (I guess I am Imagining it) Finally went to see an Orthopedist who ordered the MRI We shall see what happens. Dr.'s are hard to come by where I am and since my Dr left town I just started seeing a nurse practioner. Have a good night everyone:regular_smile: -

Sorry Denise I hoped it was something that would help. Oh Well, Going to Coos bay tomorrow for an MRI Hope the weather is better than today Quick question - When I feel restriction it feels like heartburn and it usually goes away about a half hour after I have eaten. But today I have had heartburn all day. The only thing that helped was a sip of wine and I wouldn't have tried that except it was a new one DH wanted me to try. Could I be stuck? -

Hi Guys haven't been on in a while but I thought I wopuld put my 2 cents in about the fiber and constipation. I was very constipated after the operation painfully so, but I started eating oatmeal for breakfast with 2 tablespoons of ground flax seed meal on top. I have not had a problem since. Don't know if it will work for you denise but it isn't very expensive to try. -
I haven't posted in a while I guess I figure if I'm not losing what right do I have to give advice. But I'm back and looking for a new resolve. hi Kalai, Your question about motivation actually helped me. I remember why I did this. (Or at least one of the why's) Last August I was seeing a new Dr for first time. I told him I was thinking about Lap band surgery and his answer was - "You don't need that - ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS DIET" Yeah right - Like I had never thought of that before. Anyway, I had already researched it so I was so mad I went home and set up app't for surgery (self pay so went to MX) Had surgery on 9/5/07 I have lost a total of 63 pounds (27 prior to surg and it took about 8 months.) I'm glad I did this and I will get back on the ball. When you don't have good restriction it becomes difficult but I know from reading on here that restriction will come. In fact I do have more than I did. Good Luck and Go for it!!!! :cursing:

I'll share - My husband walked out on me last Friday. Had no idea where he was. He came back today and we will have to work on it. The reason I am sharing is because I am proud of myself --- I did not turn to food and binge in fact I lost 4 lbs. I also bought myself a dozen roses instead of junk food. I am proud of myself PS Now that he is back I DO want to binge lol But I won't -

Hi Kathy I am 65 and had lapband surgery last Sept. I've lost a total of 36 pounds so far. I have more energy than I did but most important to me my insulin has gone from 70 units to 30 units. I expect that as I continue that number will continue to decrease. I also should tell you that this is not easy.... But IMHO very worthwhile. Good luck. Nance -

Sorry didn't see your post when I answered Denise As you can see I'm in Brookings but when we need to do serious shopping we go to Medford or Grants Pass. DH doesn't like going over the pass in rainy weather and we have LOTS of rainy weather. I love it here wouldn't want to live anywhere else. Nance -

Thanks Janet and Denise I had my third fill on Thursday and I think I have a little restriction. I did something yesterday that I have never done before - made a meal plan for the week and a grocery list from the meal plan. I had help because I use Sparkpeople but even so I consider this a BIG step forward. You two are my heroes. I hope to be close to Goal by this time next year. I'm getting serious about this now!! BTW add me to the Northwest group. I am in Southern Oregon. Nance -

Hi All, I went for my 3rd fill yesterday-She put in 1 cc and 2 hours later I had to have .5cc taken out. So I have a total of 4 cc. Since Nov. I have been having a hard time - no restriction, no weight loss and struggeling to eat properly. I am giving myself credit for not gaining but I want to get this weight off. Janet and Denise and anyone else who cares to - would you tell me what you eat to get 60 grams of protein in without using things like slim fast and protein powders? My doc wants me to eat 3 meals a day consisting of 1/2 to 1 cupper meal. Also, no snacking, no drinks or diet bars like slim fast . Between trying to do that and get in 8 glases of water a day -but not 1 hr before and 2 hours after a meal is driving me crazy. Help. Nance -

Hi Flashme5, I had weight loss surgery in 1972. Went from 303 down to 169 and stayed there untuil 1987 when I had to have the bypass reconnected. They no longer do the surgery I had as it was deemed too dangerous. Gradually I put the weight back on. Last spring I reached 330 and started to diet. By the end of July I had lost 30 lbs and then started to go back up again. Long story short I had my band done on Sept 5th in TJ Mexico. The facility was cleaner than any you would see in the states and I was impressed with the care we received. My Doctor did charge me an extra 5000.00 becaudse of the added difficulty of the previous surgery. I don't know if that is the case with every docotor. As far as how is it going?? Well I am down to 267 but I am not feeling any restriction yet. I have had two fills but I need another onel. It is to costly for me to go back to MX. I have been trying to find a doctor near me to do the fuills but they will either not take Mexico patients or require you to go to classes before they wil give you a fill. Of course there is a charge for that. lol I just heard of someone up near Portland to contact. That is an eight hour drive but still better than the 2 day trip dwn to MX. I honestly feel that you should have no problems in MX - research the doctors on line and I know you can find the right one for you. I fyou have any questions just email me. Oh BTW the doctor encountered absolutely NO PROBLEMS because of my past surgery - Of course I still had to pay the extra 5000. Good Luck Nance -

Every Doctor is different. Mine requires no water 1 hour before and 2 hours after a meal IMPOSSIBLE (at least for me)
