Hi I'm still here. Frustrated and angry. The same ol thing - If I had will power I wouldn't have needed the surgery. But I am bound and determined to lose this weight and hopefully, someday the money I spent will prove to be worthwehile cause right now it's not. -

Hi Don

When I tried to find a Medicare approved facility in Oregon there were only 2 - both in Portland. One of the facilities I contacted said they have been told that they are almost approved. Another facility said that one of the criteria for being approved is the number of surgeries they have done. OR is a rural state so they didn't forsee getting approved anytime soon. But here is the important part - The Medicare approved facilities are scheduling medicare payments 2 and 3 years out. I am sure it is because they can get more money from other insureds as Medicare is notorious for low payments.

I decided that I couldn't wait that long so I took out a loan and went to Mexico. Good Luck in your search.

Nance
-

well I'm back from Mexico BUT I don't have any restriction at all. My Dr requires 3 days liquid after a fill so today is my first day on solids. I had some scrambled eggs for breakfast - no problem eating them and I know I ate more than a quarter cup - probably a half. :faint:I am so glad you all have been talking about will power because it looks like that is what I will have to rely on AGAIN - STILL! Oh has anyone heard of the port being aligned wrong? Apparently mine was perpendicular instead of horizontal and the Dr. had to push and prod to get it where he could insert the needle. ouch! well i am off to figure out what not to eat for lunch.:cry oh he put in 2cc Nance -

Hi all I haven't posted in a while but I have been reading all your posts (sort of like a Band voyeur) I've been thinking of listing some of my good clothes on ebay. Has anyone ever done that? I have 4 AND 5X because I am now in a 3X (22-24) Yeah. But I am really worried. I can eat anything and as much as I want. I have lost about 2 lbs a week since my surgery but that is due to pure will power. Unfortunately there were times when I binged. I leave tomorrow to go to MX for my first fill. Do you think I messed us so bad that my band is no longer in place? Also it is a 2 day trip by car and I am meeting my son and family in San Diego for 2 days so food is going to be big temptation during trip. My grandson wants to see the lions and tigers and bears - I want hamburgs and fries OH MY!! My fill is on Monday morning. Thank God my Dr requires 3 days of liquids after a fill - hopefully that will get me back on track. I'll let you know how I make out Nance -

Phyll, :hungry: having lived in Buffalo I don't know how you can resist. I now live in an oceanside town and they have no idea what a fish fry really is. The ones in Buffalo are the BEST. Our favorite: the Wellington Pub on Hertel. have fun and good luck Nance ]Good Morning, All! :update: I saw my primary care doc this morning & she is pleased with my progress so far. I'm down 37 lb. and my BP is down. :waytogo: DH & I are on a "red-eye" to Buffalo NY tonight to visit family for a week. Hope I do okay with the food!! I want a Ted's Hot Dog and a Friday night fish fry!! I will only be able to eat a small piece of fish, no bread, a little cole slaw and German potato salad, I hope. Maybe I can split with someone. My Mom is a good candidate. She's 85 & doesn't eat much! She'll probably share with me. Ted's hot dog will have to be without the roll, but I'll probably have to have one for lunch one day! I know the airplane seats will be more comfortable! -

Hi All! Well, I'm home - got in late last night as our plane was redirected because of fog. Fun Fun Fun. Hours on plane and in airport then 2 more in car riding to fogged in airport where my husband waited to drive us the 1/2 hour home. I'm tired lol. Surgery went very well. The Dr. thought that it would take about 2 1/2 hours instead of usual 1/2 hr because of my previous WLS. It only took 1/2 hr so I am hoping he will refund part of the extra 5000.00 he charged me. What do you think of my chances?? I am a tad sore, very purple in places and gassy. yuck. I gained 3 pounds since surgery but I am sure that is from holding in all that gas on the plane. lol It certainly can't be from what I am eating. I don't feel hungry often and when I do I find that warm broth soothes the tiger. I know I missed a lot whie I was gone so I am going to go back and read your posts. Can't wait to see how everyone is doing. Nance -

How is weight loss for people over 50?
mistymoon replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
NM Sunshine Yes mine is Sept 5th with Dr. Ortiz. You said you were going to try a liquid diet???? Doesn't your Doctor require you to lose weight before the surgery? It is my understanding that by losing before surgery you shrink the liver thereby making it easier to place the band. BetsyJane After my previous surgery - I remember when I first crossed my legs I was on the phone with a friend - I shrieked OMG!!! She thought I had had a heart attack or something but it was the first time in more years than I can remember - What a great feeling. Enjoy. As far as eating too fast goes my problem is not being aware of my eating. This was pointed out to myself a few weeks ago when my Hubby brought home a chesse danish for himself and a Bear Claw (Almondy and very sweet) for me. Later on when he asked where his danish was I realized I had eaten it not even realizing it was not my bear claw!!!! WOW! That was the beginning of my decision to do the lapband. With my previous surgery I did lose all my weight and kept it off until I had to have it reversed. Now 20 years later I am back to square one and have to learn to eat all over again. -

Hi Sunshine Yes that is the one - and that is why I had to have it reversed. I actually wasn't able to swallow because of malnourisshment. Very weird feeling. The Dr. who reversed it wanted me to have a stomach stapling but I didn't like the sound of it. I don't think they do that anymore either. And so here I am 20 years later and having another weight loss procedure. I don't feel bad about it though cause I did keep the weight off for a long time and the increase was gradual. Yes, I am on a semi liquid diet and have lost 13 lbs. (2 shakes and a lean cuisine) I just talked to Carolyn at Dr. Ortiz office and she said I could continue that until I arrive. I started out at 330 - lost 40 to 290 - Gained 13 back to 303 which is when I decided to do this before I gained the whole 40 back. With the preop diet I am now back at 290. I know with my last surgery that it is great behavior modification when you know that putting something in your mouth is going to cause pain or discomfort so hopefully this will work too. You are having surgery near mine aren't you? I forget the date. -

NM Sunshine Great news on Your Surgery date. I am going to Dr Ortiz in MX my date is the 5th. The surgery I had in 1972 was called jejunal ileal bypass. The stomach is not cut in any way but 17 ft of intestines was bypassed. You have heard of easy in easy out - yup for first year I didn't stray far from a bathroom lol. Well I ,must go and have another tasty shake take care -

How is weight loss for people over 50?
mistymoon replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi all. My name is Nancy and I will be banded onm Sept. 5th in Mexico. Self pay- I am wondering if I can join your group. I'm definitely over 50 - logging in at 65 makes me the oldest here that I have seen so far. Don't know if I like that honor. Like everyone I have lots of questions and worries but I have to do this. I want to lose between 120 and 130 lbs. Not only do I have age, BMI of 47 going on ...I had previous weight loss surgery in 1972. I lost all my weight but the proceedure I had was very dangerous (they don't do it anymore) and I had to have surgery in 1986 to reverse it. I gradually have gained all my weight back and more.:help: I've been considering doing this for about 4 years but kept saying no because of Insurance isssues. But in Dec. we are going to Disney World with my grandaughters and I want to have energy enough to enjoy the trip. Two weeks ago I decided to do it and because it is Mexico I have 2 weeks to go. I am having it done by Dr. Ortiz. They require that I lose 15 lbs before the surgery and as of this morning I have lost 13. Oh good only 2 more to go - what can I eat..... NOT I have got to change all that OLD thinking. Well thats me - except that I live in Southern OR :rain:just a few miles from the CA border and I hope to hear from anyone who is local, over 60 or just plain anybody. Nance -
Hi all, Obviously I'm new but I only have one main question. I've been thinking and researching the Lap band on and off for about 4 years. I finally decided to do it. I live in OR but because I am self pay am going to Dr Ortiz in MX. I am scheduled to be banded on Aug 21st. How quick is that?!!! Now for my question.... I'm noticing that very few people seem to lose all their weight. Is this true? Is there a "norm" I know everyone is different but I guess what I'm really asking... am I spending a lot of money to lose only some of my weight? I want to lose 125 lbs what are my odds? thanks for any help and advice. I send my deposit on Monday :faint::help:
