Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
mistymoon replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Janet Thank You for the pep talk. I know it was adddressed to Bonnie but I am sure more of us took it to heart. I have been very discouraged lately, wondering if I have made a mistake etc... I have had two fills with no restriction and I have fibromyalgia. Fibro ='s pain Pain ='s need for comfort Comfort ='s FOOD. I find when I am in pain I don't have the energy for anything let alone eating correctly and all that entails. This isn't a pity party (well maybe a little) but I am writing because you gave me motivation to continue. Thanks Nance -
I have a friend who lost a lot of weight through the gastric bypass. She was able to get a tummy tuck paid for by insurance because of the health problems associated with rash and infections caused by the overlapping skin. She has a flatter stomach than most teen agers now!

How the Lap-Band actually works, fills and refills
mistymoon replied to Wendell Edwards's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks everyone for your replies. Sue you are right I do feel much better and last summer couldn't do 5 minutes on my treadmill. Now can do 30 and I do it 5 to 7 times a week. Dr. Watkins I have ordered the Urbsan rbounder (small trampoline like excerciser) My friend suggested this would not be a good exerciser for me because of the band. I really like it and it gives me a great workout but I have stopped using it. In your oppinion could using the rebounder hurt or dislodge my band. I would really apprecaite your response. Thanks Nance -

Wendell do you know why they gave me a larger one? I was wondering if it was because I had previous WL surgery in 1972? -
How the Lap-Band actually works, fills and refills
mistymoon replied to Wendell Edwards's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was just talking to my Dr.s office and found out that I have a 14CC band. AND that they should have been giving me larger fills. I had 2cc the first time and 1.5 the second time making 3.5 No wonder I didn't have restriction. This is the first time I have heard of a 14cc band. Has anyone else?? -
Wow Susie that is so encouraging for the rest of us Congratulations!!!!

Hi All I'm 65 and was banded on 9//5/07 by Dr Ortiz in Tijuana MX. I have had 2 fills and up until this morning had not exdperienced any restriciton at all. I hope it continues cause for the last month I have gained and lost the same 2 lbs a dozen times. My highest weight was 330 and I was 303 at op time. Currently I am 265. I am glad I did this because last summer I couldn't do 5 miniutes on the treadmill and now I can do 30. I try to do it everyday but I have fibromyalgia so sometimes it is too much-but I am in agreement with everyone that exercise is key. We just have to do what we can. I'm glad we're here to support each other. Nance

Glad I found you again. SORRY PHYLL I've got you beat I will be (shudder) 66 in August. Problem is I still feel like a kid well maybe a 30 yr old. I have 2 sons, 4 grand children 2 girls and 2 boys. Just spent a week with the girls in Disney World in Dec. I convinced I would not have been able to do it if I hadn't had the band. I had my second fill on Dec. 18th and experienced restriction for the very first time this morning at breakfast. Didn't reaccur at dinner but it gives me hope -- There is restriction in my future! I'm glad this forum is so active but it took over an hour to read everything - I'm so glad you all are here - even when I don't post I read every word. Nance:biggrin: -
How the Lap-Band actually works, fills and refills
mistymoon replied to Wendell Edwards's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi everyone, I had my band done in MX and have since had 2 fills done there. I can't go to MX again because of finances. So my concern is having a fill without a flouroscope. How can they possibly position the needle correctly without being able to see the port? At my first fill the Dr. had problems even with the flouroscope as the port was sideways. The second fill went a little faster but he still relied on the flouroscope to find the port hole. Any information anyone? -
How is weight loss for people over 50?

Hi all! Happy Holidays! We are back from our trip. Great trip but 3 weeks is a long time to be away from home. On the way back stopped in TJ for 2nd fill. Went from 2 cc to 3.5cc Still no restriction but I do get full faster. Gained 3 lbs during vacation but I am amazed it wasn't more. My Sister in law kept saying "but I made it just for you" or I bought it just for you. She doesn't know about the lapband so it was hard to refuse. When we were in Disney World we were on the eating plan - Don't do it - we spent most of our time trying to get to the restaurants. Missed a lot and ate too much. 3.5 seems like a good fill I wish I understood why some have restriction and others don't. Any ideas? Hope ypu all did bettert than I did over the holidays Nance -

Thanks Ladies for your support. I am back on the wagon and even walked a mile on my treadmill this morning. Also thanks for all your insights - I can use every little bit of info to help me along. You are right - eating sweet stuff is easy to do. But I feel guilty if I even eat SF pudding etc. I have come to the conclusion that I have a lot more food issues than I thought. My previous weight loss surgery did not require me to address those. I find that even when I say NO I keep hearing Eat me Eat me until I finally give in. I think I will go and google Emotional Eating. Thanks again I don't know what iI would do without you. Even when I don't post I read everyone of your comments. Nance -
How is weight loss for people over 50?

I am so mad at myself. I have been eating! For two days! The result - gained 4 lbs! Why does it take a week of near starvation and exercising to lose 1 or 2 lbs and only 2 days to gain 4???? It would seem to me that I would have to eat non stop for those 2 days to gain that much but I just made wrong choices - had candy and desserts too. The only thing I can say on my behalf is that I lasted longer than usual before giving in. Now the problem I face is trying to gear up to start all over again. Just before Thanksgiving! Yeah Right! I thought having the band would help me not yo yo diet but so far I have had no results from the band at all!!!! The worst part is my DIL sent me pics of my grandsons and I on our trip to San Diego Zoo when I was there for my fill. AWFUL! And as much as I want to see my granddaughters in Dec. I hate the thought of the pics. This is not the way I want them to remember their Grandma. I only have myself to blame! :hungry::help: -

Well my Dh thinks I look good just the way I am. Which is probably why he keeps tempting me with goodies. So I am fighting myself and him. -
Was, I also noted that this person just joined in Nov. So how does she know what was on these boards in the past. I was recently banded in Mexico and reading things like that can really be scary for a newly banded person. Thanks for throwing light on the subject.

How is weight loss for people over 50?
mistymoon replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
In 1972 I had JIB bypass surgery which they no longer do because it proved too dangerous. I got down to 170 and no matter what I did I could not get below that weight. In 1987 I had to have it reversed because of malnutrician problems and gradually gained all the weight back and then some. But my point being I finally had to accept that no matter what the Weight charts and Doctors said 170 was the right weight for me. Thats why I have made my goal 170 this time too. Don't know if that helps Nance -

Sunshine Really? I hadn't heard that. I wonder why that is. I would think that as your swelling goes down there would be less restriction. I wondered if I had no restriction because the Dr. had to poke and prod for about 20 minutes to get my port where he could insert needle. I figure I must be swollen after that. Nance -

Thanks but I don't feel successful - Yes I am losing weight but only by sheer willpower. I had my first fill and no restriction. But I am determined to do this so no choice. Glad you are feeling good. Even with all my complaining I would do it again in a heartbeat cause I don't want to gain this back. -
