If I could do stairs at 2 weeks with a total hip replacement, I'm sure you should be able to navigate them after this surgery. Just go slow you will be fine. -
How to quit smoking
BrandNewBrandy replied to 1020's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Google the book Stop smoking the easy way by Allen Carr. My husband and I quit last January with it when I had previously failed at ecigs patches and chantix. You may find a free eBook copy as I did. Easiest quit ever.. will never go back -

Will I be a slow loser?
BrandNewBrandy replied to SandeeD's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone's prep diet is different so its hard to tell. I have seen preop diets with the patient eating 1200 calories a day and mine will be only 1 Protein shake a day and liquids so I may get around 500 calories with the yogurt we are allowed. I dont think you can predict your future lose on that alone -
I'm not sure where you are at in your pregnancy but I know being plus sized and pregnant I lost weight up until my last trimester then would gain only 10 lbs or so. I would end up weighing 30-40 lbs less at my 6 week check up then before I got pregnant. You are eating enough calories so as long as the baby is healthy I wouldn't worry.

The cat was out of the bag pretty early in our relationship (2 months?) as I was hospitalized and my weight was written on a dry erase board in my hospital room -

Looking for my teen. Acevez, Alvarez, Kelly and Ariel Ortiz?
BrandNewBrandy replied to slcmommy5's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I think now that you have it narrowed down you need to speak to each doctor. You have to be accepted by the doctor and some may not be comfortable with your child being a teen and not accept you because of that. All you listed in my opinion are very good surgeons. Keep in mind Dr Ortiz doesn't allow the support person to stay in the hospital with the patient. That was a deal breaker for my husband when considering him. I noticed a lot of complications with Kelly. -

You are doing so awesome. I hope to follow in your footsteps soon! -
Ok, my biggest anxiety about all of this is not about the surgery but about flying since I have never flown and I am scared of heights. Help a girl out here... What airline is the most comfortable? I will be traveling about 7 hours from the looks of things. Which seat is easiest for a plus size person to fit into? (I am a size 24 if that helps) I will be traveling with my husband who wouldn't mind me pressing up against him but what about arm rests? Seat belt extenders? Is there a way to know ahead of time that you need one? Any tips I need to know?

Flying questions

For me 1st class for 1 ticket is more than the cost of getting both tickets in economy. I'll be uncomfortable to save $1100 lol -

I'm undecided yet if I'm going in April or the first week in may. My doctor will be Dr. Illan. I had anxiety this week when I was thinking on scheduling in march so I am giving myself a few days to pick my surgery date. -
Parents...did you do anything special for your children while you were away
BrandNewBrandy posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I was thinking about ideas of things I could do for my kids on the days I am away. I have set up skype and taught my 8 yo daughter how to call me on it with her tablet so they will have video calls to me but I was wondering if anyone left little daily gifts for their kids and how their kids handled you being away for 5 days? My kids ages are 17, 8 and 4. -
Tiff, have you chosen a date yet? I may go in March for a Friday Surgery.

Second guessing my decision for surgery in Mexico...
BrandNewBrandy replied to Jen40's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I am not 100% sure of about coverage for life threatening complications because of the health care act. I am not sure even all the insurance companies are up to speed with the rules and regulations of pre existing conditions. For me with my surgeon and my health history, I am comfortable with the risks of that I will be okay. I have recovered from a bankruptcy before so if it would come to that it would. As far as medical history, I was required to list any surgeries and the hospitals that the surgeries took place at. In this day and age getting that information should they require it is a matter of a phone call and a fax. Maybe I will fill out a HIPAA form allowing any facility to release any information to my surgeon just to be sure. They also do standard preop testing for surgery prior to surgery so they have a better picture of your health that day then what your health was 15 years ago. All that being said, my mother is absolutely against me having this done in Mexico. I have decided that it is my body and my health and I need to make the decision for myself, not for her because she will not have to live with the risks of me being obese or living with complications from the surgery. Most of their worry is because they have not done the research and will need to see you are okay with their own eyes.
