How is everyone doing on their preop diets

I'm doing preop now and its not that bad. I'm eating about 800 calories a day. Saturday my real preop kicks in and my calories will be less because I'm going to all liquid then.

Beware of Mexico Bariatric Center (MBC)
BrandNewBrandy replied to dsteimen's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
How do they explain your incisions? What and who did what procedure on you? I'm sorry you went through all of that. Wow! -
I was told by my doctor if you don't have issues use them if you do avoid them. I gulp more air without using a straw and drink with a straw 99.9% of the time preop so I will be breaking that rule I bet.
-
I only have to do 7 days but I'm starting tomorrow. How are you doing with it? Mine consists of 1 protein shake a day, low calorie yogurt, sf jello and pudding, and broth.
-
I think it is only a concern in the liquid/pureed stage of your diet. Once that is passed then we have constipation to look forward too. I will be carrying extra undies and baby wipes with me for a bit lol

How often do you weigh yourself?
BrandNewBrandy replied to Ree's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My plan is to do it twice a week. I've realized from past behavior that the scale can throw me off plan if the number doesn't live up to my expectations. In the past I've been a multiple times a day weigher -
Florence hospital was awful!
BrandNewBrandy replied to nsena702's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Which doctor were you scheduled with? My surgeon operates out of Florence and I haven't heard of any of our patients (in our fb group) having any issues like that. I'm sorry that happened to you. -

what is your favorite preop item you have bought to prepare for surgery?
BrandNewBrandy posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've been trying different Protein powders but I'm excited I found a tiny crockpot today to cook things in. I'm thinking of finding a nice pair of jeans in my goal size as motivation. What's your favorite thing? -
LIQUOR>> PLEASE HELP
BrandNewBrandy replied to Christian Zaccone's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have seen people way less than a year drink alcohol and I've heard doctor recommendations anywhere from 8 weeks out to never. Just remember about transfer addictions and that you may become intoxicated much more quickly now. -
And sorry I was on the app so I didn't notice the 50s forum. I'm in my 40s though
-
I have not noticed weight loss any quicker or slower because of age. I have seen it be said that men will typically lose 50% of their excess weight and woman will lose 40% of their excess weight in the first 3 months but those are averages. Some will lose more or less

I have a child..well a teenager who is almost an adult... with autism as well. Kuddos for working on yourself too. Sometimes as parents we forget to do so. PS When you struggle and feel like you aren't doing enough for your child remember there will come a day when they will show you all that hard work wasn't in vain.

Surgeon has only done 26 sleeves
BrandNewBrandy replied to ChristmasJanet's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I personally wouldn't be comfortable with that. Mine has done over 1000 bariatric surgeries and 85% of them have been sleeves. -

Insurance vs Mexico
BrandNewBrandy replied to allycatt98's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Additional surgery may not be warranted regardless of the location of your surgery. There isn't a crystal ball to say that you will need your gallbladder removed in the future and I doubt insurance will pay for removal without there being evidence that its necessary. There are plenty of people who make the decision to go to Mexico when they have insurance coverage for reasons as varied as financial, the wait being too long, they feel they will receive better care, more surgical experience, etc. I'm glad you have come to a decision you are comfortable with and I hope you have a smooth surgery and recovery. -
Insurance vs Mexico
BrandNewBrandy replied to allycatt98's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I do know that some doctors in Mexico will fix a hernia for free if it is discovered during the VSG, an elective gall bladder removal during your surgery runs about $500 for most surgeons. (Both of these surgeries should be covered by your insurance should you need them in the future, not all do.) That is something you would need to ask of each doctor when you are deciding on one. In general my research showed me that the doctors in Mexico overall had less complications than those in Mexico, their patients had less pain. I would think that this is due to the experience that they have. Insurance vs Mexico is a choice that only you can make. Good luck. -
