December 2013 Sleever Pounds Lost Log
Meltzy replied to RunningA5K's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi all! Dec 9 sleever here, and thanks to the lovely weather up here in Canada am freezing my ta-tas off!! Supposed to be -30 C tonight with wind chill of -46 (-22/-50F) brrrr! On to the dreaded stats: HW 257 SW 253 CW 233 GW 130 (I'm only 5'3") Been in a darn stall for the last week grrr My Dr doesn't do a pre op diet, says ppl are healthier for the surgery without it. Was I happy to hear that? Hell ya! Had a hard enough time on liquid post op can't imagine pre op. Anyway love lurking around and reading all of your posts, get a lot of laughs! Good luck everyone! -
Today's temptation: Christmas gumdrops What I thought I could do: eat a couple! What I know I should do: run away!! What did I do? Ate 3 big sugar covered gumdrops...chewed them into oblivion...thought I was SOO smart Results: spent forever sitting on the toilet, nauseous, dizzy, sweating, and then straight to bed to pass out. Did I mention I am only 2 weeks out and still on liquids? Boy did I learn a lesson...and my gumdrop passion has been cured for life. Makes me nauseous just thinking about them. Ugh

Oh my! I hope you're feeling better now! It's amazing how something so delicious can be so evil to our bodies.

Glad I'm not the only one posting my bad habits on this "wall of shame" haha

How much weight did you lose during your first month post-op?
Meltzy replied to gemgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok, reality check!!! What is there to give up? It's not like before when we got frustrated at our diet not moving fast enough and started eating everything in sight again. Whether we like it if not, there is no giving up anymore! We've had a major surgery, our tummies will not support a whole pizza anymore, or a bottle of pop and family size chips, those days are gone. The best we can do is EAT TO LIVE, take our vits, and we will lose the weight! Might not be as fast as we want but it didn't come on over night either. Of course I want it to happen quickly too, but damn it I have to wait too. Chin up and smile! -
Please don't hate me.... My best friend is looking into wls, and has been involved in the local bariatric clinic for the past year going to her classes etc. She encouraged me to look into wls as well, knowing that I would have to join the clinic and I would be far down the road behind her... Well, I work in the operating room so I asked a surgeon one day if he would accept me as a pt for wls and he said sure he would watch for my referral. Well, surg date was booked within 2 mos of our conversation. Yup, jumped the line. But in my defense I work very hard for my surgeons and they appreciate this fact, and I feel this perk had been a gift from my surgeon for my dedication. Kind of like a Christmas Bonus lol. Now...my friend is pissed. And yes she definitely has a right to be. Things are strained and I feel really bad about it but once the ball started rolling it was really out of my control. I've now been sleeved for almost 2 weeks and I really don't want this guilt to sabotage my weight loss efforts!

Woohoo! Good for you!!

How do you take your crushed meds without gagging
Meltzy replied to itsnevertoolate's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't crush just down em. One at a time and bigger ones sometimes have to massage them down the neck. -
Omg you guys are all the best! And soooo supportive!! Thank you for all of your kind words, has helped pick me up and enable me to forge ahead on this journey ???? We've been friends for 15 yrs and I know she has always had a selfish side but now that it's directed towards me it was kind of a shock. On your advice I will ride it out and not let her sabotage things for me! I am strong! Haha

What to have at home to be successful
Meltzy replied to kespy74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Calcium chews, G2 or something similar, those mio drink flavorings, water bottles with the measurement markings on them, warm socks, lots of pillows on your bed, new batteries in the tv remote. -
Thinking of food too much..11 days post op. Help help help
Meltzy replied to Carlotta1's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Omg I had such a bad craving like that I sucked all the salt off of a cracker. It actually worked! Haha. Just make sure you don't eat the cracker... -
Premier protein is fantastic! Only 130 cals with 30g protein and 1 g sugar. After I found these I was finally able to tolerate shakes.

Three weeks out and not losing weight!
Meltzy replied to EggWithLegs's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved on Dec 9. Lost 10 first week but then only 3 in this week. On the bright side it's 13 lbs that I hope to never ever see again! Haha -
I had no drain but same leak test as above. Horrible tasting dye but only needed a couple sips.

1 month post op scare
Meltzy replied to LindafromFlorida's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for sharing Linda! We are all in here to learn the good, bad, and the ugly, and your post is a good warning to keep in mind when something is just so delicious that nothing else matters. Haha. Like just about everything for me right now, in my liquid phase. I swear I could lick the tv screen some days with these holiday food commercials. -
Omg that's funny! It's the one thing you know is safe to buy lol. I refuse to go clothes shopping for now. But am soo looking forward to buying what I think is cute rather than what is in my size. And you all know how hideous all of the plus size clothes are...it's like they are punishing us for being fat by making ugly clothes. ????

I was already on my side right after surgery haha. My big air booties, IV, O2 tubes, all getting messed up. Did wreck one IV with hands curled up on side so they had to resite. As for protein: I was sleeved Dec 9 and still not at goal but doing better. Just trying a new shake today has 30 g so might help reach that elusive 65 g goal. Sooo looking forward to Monday when I can move forward to purée/mushy food. ????
-
OMG freezing!! But then I live in Canada and we're having a bit of a cold spell here. -18 Celsius w wind chill -28. Hands and feet are never warm! But on the bright side still off of work so who cares what the weather is like outside? Haha
-
Dec 9 sleeved here as well, just wondering how everyone is feeling? PO day 11 and last night was my first great nights sleep! Had been twisted around and not sleeping at night so happy it's possibly fixed. Anyone making their protein goals yet? Not me but getting better, trying a new shake today premier protein has 30 G protein, 130 cals and only 1 g sugar. I've been trying Greek yogurt but for some weird reason it makes me cough, even when thinned. Weight is coming off slowly, but I'm a slow loser so must be patient. Damn it. Hope all u other 9ers are doing well too!!

December 2013 Sleevers Come In!
Meltzy replied to AtlantaRed's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Very difficult to reply while using phone haha.. I am also dec 9 and am dreaming of soft foods! Can't wait till Monday! Am still not getting in my protein but working on it. Liquids are good, the best thing is not having any hunger, LOVE IT!! -
Did any of you have food funerals prior to starting your preop diet?
Meltzy replied to A_ReNUDE_me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Mmmm had poutine. It's like a heavenly little heart attack on a plate, fries, cheese and gravy. Soo bad for u but soooo good at same time. My daughter offered to blend some up and the thought of puréed poutine had killed that craving lol -
Oh my! If we were all perfect we wouldn't be here! I am very new, sleeved on Dec 9/13. On day 5 post op I was craving sooo bad I sucked all the salt off a couple of potato chips!! This was when I was just figuring how to fit more than an oz of liquid at a time into myself! Needless to say carb cravings are the devil himself sitting on our shoulders and will ALWAYS be there trying to temp us and we just have to do the best we can. Take our tumbles, then get back on our journey until the next time we get tripped up.
