Hi my name is Kathy and I am a 65 year old retired geriatic nurse. Most of my adult life I have lived on a diet. At the age of 35 I developed HTN and they told me I needed to lose weight. I have tired every diet out there and none of them worked. I would lose 20 or 30 lb. and then gain that back plus another 5-10lbs. One of my nurse friends got the lap-band about 4 years ago and did lose weight and I had thought about that, but at the time my insurance would not pay for it. At the age of 60 I developed type II diabetes and well as I had been having a lot of trouble with my knees. I had my first total knee replacement at 60 and the surgen told me I needed to lose weight. I tried but only lost a few lbs. I had to have my other knee replaced just 3 years ago and again he told me I needed to lose weight as I had the smallest knee they made. I decided I needed to do something to get my diabeties, and hypertention under contol as I was now on 5 medication for B/P and 2 medications for diabeties. I had my surgery on April 8th of this year, so I am a newby, but so far I am doing very well. My diabeties is getting better and I am off one medication and my hypertention is starting to stay within the guidelines of what my doctor wants. I have lost 20 lbs so far since I first started my weight lose journey. I am feeling much better and have been able to start walking again, to help with the weight lose.
