Shot to Reduce Risk of Blood Clots

Thanks for all the info! She has never had any type of surgery at all before and is a nervous wreck. I passed on all the comments to her. Thanks again! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. I was sleeved almost three years ago. My friend is scheduled for surgery on Tuesday. I am posting this question for her. The doctor gave her a prescription for a shot that she is supposed to give herself twice a day for fourteen days after surgery. The purpose of the shot is to act as a blood thinner and help prevent blood clots. She is using the same office that I used and that three of my other friends have used for the sleeve surgery. None of us were required to do the shot. The nurse advised my friend that it was because she is 40 years old. Two of the others that I know that had the sleeve were over 40 and did not require the shot. My friend just wanted me to ask if anyone else was required to do the shot and if they had any issues giving it to themselves? Thanks for any info! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    weight loss incentive!

I am also doing a dietbet. I am doing three right now. I think two of mine end on the 29th. This is my first dietbet and I have lost more than the 4%. Good luck!

    Cruising at 3 months out

I was sleeved on 1/16/14 and have a cruise scheduled for 3/23/14, in just two weeks. This will be my 5th cruise and I am sure that I will be able to find healthy choices to eat with all the food options available. I jokingly told my husband that I should get a discount because my food intake will be minimal compared to everyone else. I am excited and can't wait. Another couple is going on the trip with us and the wife of the couple was sleeved in October. I plan on eating protein first like I do now and taking some Quest bars with me for when I need a quick snack. I have been exercising the last couple of weeks and hope to be motivated enough to exercise some in the gym on the ship.
  5. You look awesome. I will be seven weeks post op tomorrow and hope that I have the same success that you have. Our measurements are almost identical, except I am 5'1. I lost 20 pounds on the three week pre op diet and weighed 275 the morning of surgery. Great job!
  6. I applied on Monday and hope that I am approved. I have CVS Caremark. I drink the premier protein every day anyway, so if it is covered by insurance that would be great. I received the initial email saying that they received my information. Hope to hear something in the next week or so.
  7. Awesome job in only three short months! You look great!
  8. I have lost 46 pounds and have went from a 24 to a 20. I wore the size 24 until this past weekend when I bought new clothes. I was surprised that I had went down to a size 20. I could tell a little difference, but not much until I bought the new clothes. This week everyone has been commenting about how different I look in clothes that actually fit. The weird thing is that I gained 70 pounds since my 8 year old daughter was born and wore a size 24 that entire time. I have only lost 46 pounds so far, but have went down to a size 20. I don't know why the difference, but I will take it. I think that I look smaller now than I did before she was born, even though I weigh 25 pounds more. Congrats on dropping down the sizes!

How much did your surgery cost?

My insurance excludes wls so I was self pay. I paid about $14,700 for the surgery, $200 for the consultation, $35 for the psych evaluation, and approximately $300 for the food for the pre-op diet, for a total of $15,235. The $14,700 included the surgeon, anesthesiologist, dietician, and follow up appointments for two years.

    after surgery

Walking helped tremendously. Also, I found that the infant Mylicon gas drops helped better than the Gas-X strips.

    Surgery 2 Days Ago

I am 7 days post op and no longer have the bubbly stomach or gas pains. I used the Gas X strips and infant mylicon drops. I think the mylicon drops worked better than the Gas X strips. Also, walking really does help move the gas out.

Sore calves and my shin bones ache

I was just sleeved on Thursday and I noticed to day that my calves are very sore. I also have ran a fever up to 99.9 since Friday, but it seems to be dropping a little back to normal today. The surgeon's office called to check on me on Friday and told me to contact them if the fever is higher than 100.5.
  13. I was sleeved on Thursday (1/16/14) and everything went well. My surgery was scheduled for 10:15a.m. and I was in recovery about 11:00. I was discharged at 3:00p.m. I was nervous about the procedure being outpaitent, but I was glad to get to come home. The only negative part was that the liquid pain medicine caused stomach spasms when I swallowed it, but it was not too unbearable. The worst pain was the gas pain, but it is much better today. Walking definitely helped the gas pain. I am on clear liquids for a week and I am having trouble getting the required amount in each day, but it is getting better. I just keep sipping water and can drink about an ounce of chicken broth at a time. I am feeling pretty good today, but I do seem to tire very easily. I am scheduled to return to work on 1/27/14.
  14. I am three days post op and gained five pounds after surgery. I lost the five pounds by the second day, but my stomach is still very swollen.

    Low grade fever normal?

I was sleeved on Thursday and have been running a low grade fever since Friday. It has went to 99.9, but not over. The surgeon's office called me on Friday to check in and told me that a low grade fever is common and to contact them if it goes over 100.5.
