    4 weeks post-op

2muchfun is absolutely correct. It took me 6 months to hit green! I was starving and I could eat an entire steak and potato. I do not recommend that, but it could be done. I went 3 months at the same weight. Frustrating until one month I went in and stood on the scale and BAMB! I lost 12! I knew I was finally there. It takes time. And patience. And don't be hard on yourself. Remember that food is fuel. Not a reward for anything. I dont measure or count calories. I like to get a little taste of everything and I am happy. This is just what I do. My doctor is ok with it. Everyone's journey is different. Get with your dr to discuss your expectations. The goal is to be healthy, fit, and HAPPY. I think happy is the most important.
  2. I watched the news this morning. They interviewed a Houston surgeon. He said he stopped practicing surgeries involving the lap band. He said the other weight loss surgeries are different and better. He said that the lap band is "forced bulimia ". And that everyone vomits with lap band. What are your thoughts on this?
  3. Yea, why do they stand us up? How do they stand us?

    Houston surgeon on the news

I vomit about 4 times a week with the band. It's not really full on vomiting. Maybe just the amount in my stoma. Sometimes it's only Water when I drink too much or too fast. I don't feel as though I have bulimia ! I think his statement was reckless and irresponsible.
  7. I am 6 months post op. I have had 6 fills. This last one is the charm. Green zone finally. But until you get there, it's frustrating. I went 2 months with out losing anything. Hungry all t he time.

    3 days to operation

I almost jumped of the surgery table! Lol. Glad I did it. 6 months later and 50 pounds lighter.

    Green zone calorie goal

And I am in the green zone finally. Second month. Down 18 lbs in 2 months. Before green zone, I was stalled for several months.

    Green zone calorie goal

Have you heard of shirataki noodles? No carbs and 20 calories per 1/2 cup. You make a nice hearty meaty red sauce with the spaghetti noodles or an Alfredo sauce with chicken or shrimp with the fettuccine noodles. I love them! They keep you full for a very long time. If your local grocery doesn't carry them, you can order them from amazon.

    Portion size

Every doctor is different. My doctor doesn't want me eating more than a half a cup at one sitting. Although, after I got in the green zone it's very hard to even eat a half a cup. More like a third of a cup now. In my first months of being banded, I could eat 1 1/2 cups at one sitting. That was with 0-3 fills.
  12. It took me about 6 months to learn what foods I cannot eat. Scrambled eggs where ok in the first months, then after I had my 5th fill and hit the green zone, they get stuck. So they are marked off my list now. Yogurt is a good breakfast for me now. Fried and baked fish goes down fairly easily. Hamburger is a big no. Steak has to be filet mignon. Nothing else. Once something gets stuck, you know you have to be very careful with that food choice again. And I have to chew everything until it is the consistency of soup in my mouth, or else!

    Scared of being STUCK!

Ok just got a fill 2 days ago. 8.5cc in a 10 cc band. Took the tiniest bite of steak, and chewed it up good. Stuck! Stuck! Stuck! Painful for one hour then up it came! Vomited that tiny speck of chewed meat. Uhhhg!

    post op sutures?

I accidentally removed mine at 5 days. Nothing bad happened to me. But I did misunderstand my instructions. I have bad scaring now.

    Post-op Gas Pains

Oh NO! It's not the gas from the surgery. Your body changes after the band. You become very burpy and GASSY! Not sure why, but it's very common.

    Post-op Gas Pains

My husband calls me the butt bugler ! And the human jet stream! Lol. The gas hasn't gone away in 6 months!
  17. You are still swollen. You will get hungry. I made a big pot of Paula Deen's chicken noodle Soup with out the noodles. Then I pureed it so it was smooth. I ate this mostly on my full liquid phase bc I was so sick of the sweet Protein shakes. I also ate cream Soups with added unflavored unjury Protein powder. Mix it up. You will find things that satisfy you. There is also pro biotic liquid yogurt drinks, too. There is a lot of protein in those. The Siggi's vanilla is my favorite.

    Soft stops?

Foods that are not so good for you seem to get me stuck and slow me down. Now this is a catch 22. I talked to my NP at my surgeons office last week about this. I ate a turkey sausage patty in a biscuit. Not the BEST choice due to the biscuit, we both agreed. First bite. STUCK! pain pain pain. It took me 45 minutes to finish that biscuit and sausage and I wasn't hungry for 5 hours. So, when I make a better food choice, like a natural yogurt made from grass fed cows milk, etc. , I am hungry in 1 hour. So, do I seek out the foods that actually "clog" me so that I am not hungry for hours, or do I eat the healthier foods, and be starving for hours?

1 day post op for the Lapband

    Not too hard! Lol.
  21. did you have a pre op diet?
  22. Just came from my doctor today. He said the drinking rule was made to prevent food regurgitation. If you are ABLE to drink with your meals, it's ok. Sometimes I do. sometimes I don't.
