Did anyone have pain 3 days post Op?
Lillyanne_M replied to Texan1440's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 3 days post op and still having some gas pains - at least I think that's what it is. Pain in left shoulder blade and up the left side of my neck. I thought walking would help, so I went outside (can you believe it?) and took the kids for a walk at the park. I had to drive a short distance to get there and had my mother-in-law with me to help get my daughter into and out of her car seat since I'm not supposed to lift her if I can help it. I'm feeling pretty good, but still, that little walk made me feel a little weird and like maybe I shouldn't push it. -
waking up after surgery
Lillyanne_M replied to Joanna240's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had mine done at a same-day surgery center. I woke up to the nurse calling my name. My throat was really dry and sore, but I only had an IV in my hand, no tubes or monitors or anything. It took me about a half hour (I think, but really, I have no idea) to be able to keep my eyes open, I was pretty groggy. After that, my husband helped me get dressed, the surgeon stopped by to say everything went great, and I was out the door. Surgery started at 7 am and I was home by noon. -
Pre-Op Clear Liquid question
Lillyanne_M replied to Loseweightin08's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here's a quick word of warning for something I found out. If you buy the powdered Isopure, IT DOES NOT MIX UP CLEAR. I was lied to about this in the Vitamin Shoppe. I specifically asked the saleslady if it mixed up clear and she said yes. It even says on the container "our Protein is so pure it mixes up clear" and has a picture of what looks like a glass of Water on it. If you read underneath the picture though, it says something like "you may notice that when you mix this powder, it will be cloudy. That's because of all the Vitamins and flavorings we put in it. But the proof is in our bottled drinks!" Yes, the pre-mixed bottled drinks are clear, but the powder that you mix with water will not give you a see-through liquid. Oh, and did I mention the taste is gag-inducing? I bought the apple melon flavor and now I'm stuck with a $32.00 jar of it. Anyway, I just needed to get that off my chest! -
How did you do on Pre-op diet?
Lillyanne_M replied to Joanna240's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on a full liquid diet for 7 days, then Clear Liquids the day before surgery. I stuck to it religiously, didn't slip even once. I lost about 6 or 7 pounds. It sucked, but I'm self-pay and I'm terrified of screwing up somehow, so I'm following doctors' orders absolutely. If I mess this up, there's no insurance to bail me out. I'm now 2 days post-surgery and on clear liquids until tomorrow. Then I can go back to full liquids. -
Did anyone have pain 3 days post Op?
Lillyanne_M replied to Texan1440's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I asked the nurse about Gas-X and she said it won't help because it's not the same kind of gas you get from foods in your diet. The carbon dioxide they fill your belly with just has to reabsorb into your abdomen and get expelled either from the top or bottom I personally haven't been able to burp because every time I feel like I need to, I'm terrified of swallowing any air - you know how you kind of need to swallow a little bit before the burp comes out? It causes a pain in my mid to upper chest area. Anyone else getting this? -
A question just for the ladies (shhh it is about bras)
Lillyanne_M replied to WendyRae's topic in The Gals' Room
Your could try a leisure bra. I have some I sleep in. I got them the last time I was pregnant and I still wear them. Get a good soft one without an underwire of course and made of cotton. I wore it this morning when I went in for surgery. My doctor didn't tell me no bras, but I figured I wouldn't want to put on an underwire right after getting banded. My incisions are far enough below my bra line so it wouldn't matter, but still. -
Officially a Bandster
Lillyanne_M replied to destined2befree's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got banded this morning too! The incision pain is not bad but the gas pains are just killin' me! Hope they go away soon. Congrats on your band! -
I keep seeing lists of things to take to the hospital for your overnight stay, but I don't think I've seen anyone say they went home the same day. My doctor does outpatient surgery. Is anyone else doing this?

Question on Before Surgery Weight
Lillyanne_M replied to KTBEEE's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, it sure does. You might feel a little crappy the first day or so, but in my case I think it was sugar withdrawal. When I did Atkins, I felt the same way for a couple of days. Today for lunch I had Campbell's Select Healthy Request (reduced sodium) chicken tortilla Soup. I put it in the blender before I heated it up. It was really good and very filling. Highly recommend. Also, there is a jell-o pudding snack cup called "Dulce de Leche" that is AWESOME. Good luck and let me know how you're doing and if you find any really great foods -
Question on Before Surgery Weight
Lillyanne_M replied to KTBEEE's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's called a "Full Liquid Diet" but it includes: sugar free fat free yogurt blended Soups with less then 5 g fat and less than 500 mg sodium sf jell-o sf ff pudding skim or 1% milk any sugar free drinks but not carbonated, like Crystal Light coffee, tea - decaf 2 whey Protein shakes made with Water or milk per day sf popcicles I'm tracking it on fitday.com and yesterday I only had about 800 cal. I was pretty miserable but today is getting a little better. I have to follow a "Clear Liquid" diet for 2 days after surgery and then back to the "Full Liquid" diet for 2 weeks after that. -
Question on Before Surgery Weight
Lillyanne_M replied to KTBEEE's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor didn't give me a pre-surgery weight loss goal, but he did insist on a one week liquid diet to shrink my liver. I'm on day 2 and it really sucks. I only have 6 days to go till surgery and I'm determined to stick to it! -

Did your Doc require a pre-op diet?
Lillyanne_M replied to whosthatgirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My doctor ordered one week of liquids before surgery. My surgery is scheduled for 1/9/08, so today is my first day. I feel awful!! I think it's sugar withdrawal, since I felt this way for the first few days when I tried Atkins. I can have sf pudding, skim milk, Protein whey shakes and blended low fat Soups. I think I've had about 500 cal so far today. I heard if I can make it through the first couple of days, I'll be ok. I sure hope so! :omg: -
Thanks!! I'll take your advice.

What is your cardio of choice?
Lillyanne_M replied to areellady's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I try to get to Jazzercise at least 3 days a week. It's about 40 minutes of aerobics and 20 min. of strength training/floor work. Super fun and a great workout. -
Exercise after Banding as Opposed to When Morbidly Obese
Lillyanne_M replied to MissNilsa's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Have you tried Jazzercise? I am totally addicted. You can make it as high impact or as low impact as you want. If you don't want to make it quite as intense, you just modifly the moves and take it easy. The instructor will usually show the class the way to make it low impact and will show how to modify exercises for those with tender joints or backs. It's about 40 minutes of fun aerobics and then 20 minutes of strength training and floor exercises. It's like dancing and aerobics combined. In my class, we have some very heavy people (like me) and some very thin women, and we all have different levels of fitness. The point is that you can tailor it to your own level of comfort. If you haven't tried it, I highly recommend it. I swear, if I had to go to the gym 3 or 4 days a week, I wouldn't get out of bed, but I look forward to my Jazzercise class. -
Poll: Are you glad you were banded?
Lillyanne_M replied to justwant2lose's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Kat 817, that was the best, most well thought out, and helpful reply to a post I've ever seen. I have been EDUCATED. Thank you so much. -
Hi, I'm new to the forum. I just attended my first informational seminar. I've been reading some posts on here and I have a question. Why does your doctor want you to lose weight before surgery?

Thanks Liz, that makes sense.
