    January Surgeries

Let me ask you guys a question. So, has anyone regretted signing up for this journey? I'm beginning to. I'm 2 days away from my surgery, on a 14 day liquid diet, and all I want is a thick juicy cheeseburger. I'm beginning to wonder if I'm making the right decision. Is this normal?!?!? Help!!

Redstacey: I don't think you're from a different era at all. If you are, then so am I. I'm a nurse as well and come home some nights to cook dinner. My husband works 2 jobs but some nights he cooks prior to leaving for his 2nd job. But it's just because I thoroughly enjoy cooking and cleaning. So, I think you and I have much in common. I wish you the best!!

Mkmb- thanks so much for your advice. I will remember to ask my surgeon but your reply kind of gives me a guideline. Thanks again!!

I have a very unusual question for you guys that I forgot to ask my surgeon. Now, my lap RNY isn't scheduled until January 16, but my husband and I were just curious as to when we could resume having a physical relationship following surgery. Any suggestions?
  5. 3 days of liquids, man, I wish I had your surgeon!!! I'm on day 12!! Good luck, my RNY is on the 16th.

Kcamp, it DOES get easier. I'm on day 11 and my hunger is gone. I'm on a full liquid diet but the protein shakes are key. The protein is what fills me up. Hang in there, TRUST ME, it's more than worth it.
  8. Save me some room on the loser's bench! This is day 8 of my liquid preop diet. I'm down 13lbs. I have to start my 2 day bowel prep on Tuesday. Surgery is next Thursday!!!
  9. Mine is next Thursday. Seems so far away...

Anyone else get insomnia while on their preop diet? In the past 4 days, I've had 5 hours of sleep.

This forum can be a bit confusing to read sometimes, but my surgery isn't until the 16th but I'll take your accolades now in advance I think it was Betsy that had her surgery. Good luck to u as well!!!

Glad to hear all went well! Lets all hope that the pain stays away!! But as a nurse, I can tell u that as soon as your pain reaches a 3 on the pain scale, start asking for your pain medication. Its way easier to control. Don't wait too long. Good luck to u!!!

@ Betsy, lol, my surgery isn't until January 16th and my hospital bags have been packed since mid-December!! I'm a over-achiever, I guess u can say...lol. Good luck to you!! My surgeon requires a minimum mandatory hospital stay of 4 days for a Laparoscopic RNY. I just hope it can stay a laparoscopic procedure. I've had multiple previous abdominal surgeries with a lot of scar tissue so I'm keeping my fingers AND toes crossed!!! Cheers to the New Year and all our future endeavors in a smaller pair of pants!

    January Surgeries

I'm on day 4 and it DOES get easier. Those first 2 days, I almost gave up...seriously. But I've been on this WLS journey since August 19, 2013, multiple visits to my NUT, primary care doctor, weigh-in's, mandatory weight milestones and required weight loss...which, has been incredibly difficult. I mean, I don't understand why most insurance companies require a weight loss, when in fact, if I could lose the weight myself, I wouldn't need WLS. Anyone else feel this way?
  17. I just had THE best protein shake this morning! I went to the grocery store and came across this packet for banana smoothie mix that required milk, ice and one ripe banana. So I purchased some bananas, and Lactaid fat free milk. I put the bananas in the fridge for a while to ripen them a bit then I threw the smoothie mix, banana, milk, ice AND a packet of Unjury Chocolate Splendor flavoring protein powder in the blender for a minute and you talk about something SOOOO good! Give it a try!!! Unjury is such a breath of fresh air! No after taste...no chalky-Ness.
  18. Cemmons, first I commend you for taking control of your life. Do you have a support system? This forum can be absolutely wonderful when you're looking for recipes, or people to relate to, or even that encouraging word when needed. My family has been very supportive from the very beginning so it's hard for me to imagine anyone else not having that. But were certainly glad you joined and we're here for you!! Welcome.
  19. I'm on a full liquid diet and if you're looking for something with the full liquid consistency, I just made this really good homemade cream of potato soup. My recipe was kind of a random thought so I don't have really any measurements so I apologize for that. I used 3 large potatoes, peeled and cubed. I parboiled them (they were still a little firm), then I drained off some of the water. I added some seasonings like salt, pepper, garlic powder, parsley. I then added one can of chicken broth (10oz), 1 cup milk (I suppose heavy cream would work as well), and 2 packets of the Augratin potato cheese packet mix. I let all this set on medium heat for about 20-25 minutes or so, until potatoes were tender. I added a little dolop of light sour cream and 2 tbsp of light cream cheese (these two items can be omitted) then I turned heat down to simmer and used a potato masher to completely mash the potatoes. Viola. Hey, I never said it was healthy! But if we're consuming nothing but clear liquids all day, this would make for a great dinner, especially with it being winter!! Serves approximately 6
  20. Bry76, we are all here for words of encouragement so you came to the right place! Hang in there!!
  21. I'm terrified to be honest. I'm a sucker for fast food so I'm feeling quite disconnected from food right now being on my clear liquid diet
  22. My ultimate fear is quite different from yours. My fear is that it won't control my appetite. I feel like I could eat 6 cheeseburgers right now. Its a weird fear but it's mine

    Returning to work

I'm a Wound Care Nurse so maybe that was the surgeon's motive.

    Returning to work

I'm having laparoscopic RNY on January 16th and my surgeon signed my FMLA paperwork requesting I'd need off a mandatory 6 weeks. Its funny how some people can have the same type of surgery but how surgeons' opinions differ so much.
