My name is Abel Leonard and I am from Santa Monica California. Ever since I was 8 years old I have always had unleveled blood sugars due to Insulin Resistance. Since I was 4 years old till I was a junior in high school I was a competitive swimmer, swimming with an Olympic Team. We had 2 hour work outs everyday of the week and 4 hour workouts on saturday. During this period my parents and I noticed that I always had a belly and never really had a "tone" body. When I was 8 years old my Pediatric doctor told me that I should see a Endocrinologist. That is where my family and I discovered that I was a Type 2 Diabetic with Insulin Resistance.
After high school I attended the University of Arizona in Tucson Arizona. This is where my weight gain started to take charge. After a couple years in Tucson I came back home to Santa Monica. I was going through the phase of trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. School was not going so well and I spent a lot of my time hanging out with friends, eating poorly, smoking/drinking.. you know being a college student with no goals in sight! After a couple years of trying to figure out my life I realized I wanted to go to school to become a Aviation Mechanic. I ended up at West Los Angeles College and completed their Aviation Mechanic Technician program with flying colors. I have always had a love for airplanes since I was a young child. Currently I am in the process of completing my exams and evaluations with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). During my schooling for aviation my Endocrinologist told me to consider Bariatric surgery and see if it was a right fit. It took myself a few months to consider the idea and come to grips with my self to understand I need to take my life into my own hands and start taking care of myself! With surgery I think that I will be very successful in weight loss and will be able to pursue my dreams and goals!!
I am currently in my pre op procedure preparing to get the Sleeve Procedure. My surgery date is December 13th 2013. With all my research and studying on the procedure, I feel confident in myself to reach my goals and maintain my weight and food intake once I reach these goals. This will be a huge tool for me to use to achieve my weight goals. Not only will it increase my wellness and health but it will also be a battle I can conquer and feel proud about. Not only will I be healthier and skinner but I will also be able to be a better Technician in the new future!
I look forward to meeting new people who are like me and to talk with people to help keep me motivated and encouraged. Feel free to contact me and lets talk!
