    Non-NSAIDs Pain Relievers

I also have suffered from Fibro and CFS prior to surgery. Was taking Celebrex prior to surgery which helped somewhat, but no doubt losing 75 pounds (since surgery 6 mos ago) has drastically reduced the aches and pains that were so chronic before surgery. My doc still allows me to use Celebrex (I had sleeve)., but I'm hoping to eventually wean off it as I continue to lose weight. So for those of you in pain pre surgery, my experience has been that pain greatly reduced with loss of pounds!
  2. I had my thyroid removed 10 years ago due to cancer. For 10 years, I searched for every reason to blame my lack of thyroid on my weight gain, fatigue, fibromyalgia, etc. All I got for that was heavier and more depressed. In Dec 2013, I went for VSG, also very concerned that I may not be as successful as "normal-thyroid people. Today, only 5 months later, I am down 70 pounds, have unbelievable energy, feel wonderful, and I have a totally new outlook on life. I am back to believing in my own body's ability to get healthy (this was a tough one after the cancer diagnosis), because my body is responding to my efforts. I still have a ways to go, but I KNOW my body will do this for me as long as I do what I'm supposed to do. Bottom line - I sure know that feeling of what-if-I-cant do this because of my thyroid issues - my experience is GO FOR IT! The thyroid issues are another reason to GO FOR IT, not to fear it. Good luck!
  3. I am 6 weeks post op VSG. A sinus infection is causing post nasal drip which causes nausea. I'm on regular foods, but have been vomiting after each meal, no matter how slowly and well I chew, since I've had this sinus drainage. Figuring my new little tummy simply doesn't have room. TMI but too much phlegm is what's making me vomit. Have been doing lots of Water and back to some Protein shakes to at least get some protein. Any other suggestions?
  4. I had a killer headache the few days before surgery (on full liquids), and I have to say that was my only complaint following surgery - a weeklong killer headache and fuzzy feeling from anesthesia. My hubby's theory was that it was taking longer for the anesthesia fuzziness to clear, compared to surgery I had a few years ago, because I was heavier and it took longer for the anesthesia to clear my body (more fat cells). Just have reasonable expectations, upcoming surgery patients - it IS serious surgery, there will be some discomfort and/or pain, you WILL have moments afterward (esp the first week), when you will say WTH did I just do! All normal, all expected, all will pass. I'm only 6 weeks post-op, so those first few days post op are vivid for me. I sought out reassurance on this forum on post op day 2, and the virtual hugs and reassurance got me through it. You will get through it, too! And how incredible it is! Adopt a can-do attitude, and you will make it just fine! Good luck! Donna
  5. Mistysj - in answer to your question, I think I missed out/wasn't paying attention when hearing about the hormones going crazy and moods being so extreme immediately after surgery. That was my biggest surprise - I didn't expect to be crying like a baby, so when I did, I was worried if there was something wrong. I had no real pain, just discomfort, so that wasn't the reason for tears, but I had a few days' trouble pulling it together. Thanks to posters on here, I learned this was normal, so I waited it out. Just as they said, it was much better the next week.

    What's going on?

    Thank you!
  7. VSG on 12/9/13. All went well. No real complaints. Lost 17 pounds the first 7 days, then nothing! Just the same half pound up and down. I'm drinking my Protein, eating some Soup, SF Jello, etc. I was doing 48 oz Water that first week, but kinda dropped back to about 32 oz water lately. Could less water really have this effect? Would be nice to see some more loss, especially over the holidays, to make me feel more excited about this. Any suggestions? Thanks Donna
  8. any suggestions on how to make things move on out? I know my body is ready to have a bm, but it just won't happen. Surgeon says to do enema. I can't be the only overweight person who can't "reach" to do that, and my pride won't allow me to ask my hubby to help. This is so embarrassing, but I don't know what to do. I'm only Day 5 post-op, have been getting my Water in well, walking a little, getting along better each day, but I hafta go! Any ideas?

    Feeling so emotional

I have had such a terrible headache. Only got home from hospital yesterday, but I've drank about 38 oz water today in addition to all liquid meals per my dr. Thinking my headache is due to my crying/sleeping jags, but what if its dehydration? Is it too soon to be dehydrated? I was on IV fluids up til 30 hours ago. Will continue with more water, but I'm concerned already.
  10. First post. I'm only day 3 post-op, so bear with me. I'm in such an emotional whirlwind. Can't stop crying. Can't help but ask what have I done? Help please
