I have a spine problem that makes walking tough (spondylolisthesis grade 2). My leg goes dead not long into walking. I have been riding my bike in effort to exercise without compressing the leg nerve. My hubby got me the indoor trainer for my bike so I can ride stationary until it is warm enough to get back outside. I am in hopes I will be able to start that soon.
-
Thanks!! That is good info. I will walk until he tells me I can do more.
-
Wondering about riding my bike.... stationary. I am 6 days post op. I go Thursday for my first follow up.

Have you considered the programm where you trade donors? Someone from your family donates to a group and family members of each of the other patients donate too. It increases the chances of a match for your mom. Your doc should be able to give you details.

You sound just like me. I had a terrible time with my kidneys/bladder. I still have more difficulty than normal but it is much better than after surgery on Monday. My colon was slow to respond as well. Everything seems to be working now, but my body was definitely traumatized. I just hope it doesn't mean I will have a lot of hair loss. I am taking biotin and zinc to prevent it as well as eating jello.

I did it ahead of time and slowly. Im a coffee hound, so I went with half caff for a couple of weeks and then started drinking all decaf. I suggest that to anyone reading this!!! Carb withdrawl is bad enough. Im not quite a week past surgery and still getting headaches... but they ciuld be much worse. Im glad I prepared as much as I did. -

Did u quit caffiene ahead of time? If not it may be that. I had a carb headache from no sugar, so that is possible too. It is gonna catch up eventually. Try just a couple of sips of coffee or fruit juice. -

Just be happy for her and love her regardless. Dont make this another issue, just try to work on the ones you already have. -
Just remember your hormones are in a twist and are having to adjust to your new body. Also be aware that you are WAY more fertile than normal because of this. Your chances of becoming pregnant triple for the fist 18 months after surgery (according to an info session held by the hospital I went through). If you are late... take a test. If it is negative just relax, it is normal to go through adjustments.

Surgery 2 Days Ago

Have started Prevacid, Nexium or an equivalent PPI? I was sleeved Monday and felt that way until I started my PPI's on Wed. I am fine now. -
I had surgery in Monday. I am taking prevacid and nexium since Wednesday. In between I had a gnawing pain like hunger but more intense. That has gone away with the meds. I am sure that is what you are hearing about. There is no reason to suffer with it though. If your doc doesn't perscribe it just buy otc products to take on a regular schedule. Don't wait for symptoms to appear before treating. These drugs must build up in your system to work properly. As for hunger.... none!! The commercials that used to make me drool have no effect now! You will do great. I am doing fantastic, and I am the biggest baby in the world! Lol. This site has been a lifesaver! You can ask anything without embarrassment or feeling dumb. Everyone is wonderful and understands because they are just like you!!

Name some of the most difficult things you experienced after vsg surgery

Have you tried glycerin suppisitories?? It may be enough to break things loose. -
Had my surgery on Monday. I was scared too. I had never been in the hospital for anything other than outpatient stuff. It turned out to be easy. It was over before I could really even think about it. No trouble with anesthesia or going under. It felt like a really good nap. I was home by noon on Tuesday. I have done great. You will be fine too. Just relax and let it happen. Congrats!

Try some mucinex to get rid of phlem. If you can control the drainage the naseau should stop.

I had my surgery at 7:15am on Monday and was home by noon on Tuesday. Every hour I feel a little better. I am up to 4oz per hour now and have pain well controlled. I am seeing already that I am going to love my sleeve. I am amazed that I'm not hungry and the smell of food doesn't affect me. The commercials that used to make me drool are just pictures now. It's like I'm now immune to it all. I hope this lasts. I will have great control of my eating habits if it does!

January 2014 Sleevers Come In!

So sorry to hear this. Insurance in this country has become a true nightmare. Did your insurance have a rider? What was the denial reason? Have you pushed your case to a medical review nurse?? You can request it be reviewed and an explanation given. This could at least give you a better foundation for next time. Don't give up. Give it over to God and ask for his help. I will pray for you too. Good luck. -
Home from the hospital and doin well!! Very happy!

January 2014 Sleevers Come In!

I am already home! Went in at 5am on Monday and home by noon on Tuesday. I did great. My doc said all had gone flawlessly and there was no reason to keep me there. I live about 20 minutes from the hospital, so I felt fine about leaving. Am up to 3 oz. Per hour and only a little gas pain. Sleepy but not in pain. He gave me Lortab and Oxycodone. But so far I've only needed the Lortab. It's good to know I have the other if needed. The pain is kind of a gnawing pain like hunger but harder. There is some soreness in my belly, but mostly when I cough or move suddenly. In a resting position I am comfortable. My throat has been really sore from being intabated and I needed chloraseptic to numb it. Also biotene spray was a great move. It kept the dry mouth at bay. I took a sleep mask and earplugs and the staff told me I was a brilliant patient. I hope this helps someone! -

You can't imagine how much it helps to have your hubby support you. Your wife is very lucky. My hubby has been with me every step of the way and I am so grateful. He has gone to meetings and appointments and held my hand along the way. He took me to the hospital and stayed by me the whole time. He brought me home today and put me to bed. He has carried me juice, Protein shake, and made beef broth for me. I feel very loved and supported. Make this man your role model and your wife will do great! I have friends going through this alone and it is not easy for them. You can make a difference for her. -
January 2014 Sleevers Come In!

Surgery went well yesterday. I am in Roanoke, VA at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. I slept most of yesterday and was on good pain meds. Gas not too bad (just burping) yet but Ive only had mouth swabs so far. Should start liquids today. That will probably change things. Started my TOM the evening before surgery. I hear that is not uncommon. Stress I am sure. My tummy is growling and is ready for something to happen food wise. Not sure if I will go home today or tomorrow. Its still vety early. I will update later! -

Sitting in the waiting room. Ready to be called back!!! Prayers plz!! -
Well, it is finally arriving. Surgery is in 15 hours. Tonight I have to take a shower with the special soap they provided, and then another in the morning before I go. I am nervous beyond belief!! I arrive at the hospital at 5am (and I am NOT a morning person), and surgery is at 7:15. I should be out by no later than 9am and in recovery if all goes well. My sweet hubby will be with me, and will keep my bag until I am assigned a room. I am supposed to have my 2 shakes today and a lean cuisine for dinner. Nothing to eat or drink after midnight except enough water to swallow my meds. I am taking them out of the capsules for quicker absorbency. They checked my gallbladder, pancreas, and spleen on Friday to see if anything else needs attention while they are in there. I also have a hiatal hernia they are going to fix. Gallbladder disease runs in my family, so they thought it might need to come out too. I don't know the test results yet, so I guess I'll find out when I get there! I was blessed with my TOM today (I am sure from stress), so now I get to deal with that while I am in the hospital as well. I have heard this is not uncommon for women who are still menstruating, so I guess I can manage. If this happens to you, be sure to take your favorite products with you as I hear that what they provide is terrible. At least my surgeon said I don't have to have a Foley since I don't have bladder issues. That is some consolation!! I am mostly worried about my mother while I am gone. She has Parkinson's, and I have been her primary caretaker for almost 7 years. She is now in the final stages, and I am just praying she won't pass while I am in the hospital. My sister is going to help take care of her while I am gone, and that was the first thing she said to me, so it's not just my imagination. She is getting close! The hospice nurses believe so too. I guess if it happens it is God's plan to spare me of it, so I will accept his will. I just hope that I am wrong. She wants this for me, so she may be waiting to see that I do it, and that I'm alright before she goes. I am doing this partly for her, as she has worried about my health. It's just tough to go into this with that much stress, and worry. It makes it hard to concentrate on me, and I need to do that to get through this without problems. Please say a prayer for me or at least send out some good vibes! I could really use them! Tina

Thanks so much for the information! They actually had me call my pharmacy to be sure they were ok to take that way. Mine are allowed, so I should be ok. I really appreciate your concern though! I'm sure there are some people who don't know this and it's very important information! Thanks Leepers!
