My blood sugar was out of control, and I was going to have to start diabetes meds that would have prevented me from riding horses. I had tried for over a year to get it back in the normal range with diet/exercise, with no success (lost/gained 38lbs twice). My levels are perfectly normal now--I stopped tested it daily back around Thanksgiving.

This was eye-opening for me. This is my SURGERY/CURRENT/GOAL comparison. Those last 15lbs really aren't going to be dramatic. Maybe that's why I've been in a funk lately--I got used to seeing big changes every week. I have lost 12lbs in the last 8 weeks, just got what may be my *FINAL* fill yesterday. -
SNORT!!!! HARRRNNNK!!! Come clean my computer screen...

Count me in again. I'm going to start logging the hours I spend at the barn, tossing 60lb bales of hay around and riding the wee beastie. Otherwise it looks like I'm sitting home on my arse, eating bonbons and watching TV. I rode for an hour yesterday. Today, I walked/ran 40min/3.2 miles on the treadmill and 10min/4 miles on the bike.

So, where IS everyone this week?
lessnless replied to pizzicato66's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
We'll just have to call you "Sandrew". I've been out in the beautiful spring weather (well except for Mon/Tues) riding horses all week. It's 71 degrees today--gotta love Texas. -
I have been enjoying the beautiful spring weather. I don't count horseback riding as exercise, but that's all I've done the first half of this week. I did my 40 minutes/5K on the treadmill today, then upper body workout.

Tomorrow: "Return to chair":thumbup: The best bra I've found for running is the [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Champion-Womens-Powerback-Underwire-Sports/dp/B000OWDOKM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=apparel&qid=1205966588&sr=1-2]Amazon.com: Champion Women's Powerback Underwire Sports Bra #1694: Apparel[/ame] but I have had shoulder surgery, and it takes an army to get that thing over my head! Do you have less sagging skin with slow weight loss?
lessnless replied to Bergdorfblonde's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think it has a bit to do with how much of the lost weight is fat, and how much is muscle. If you maintain you protein levels, exercise, and lose sensibly enough that you're not sacrificing lean muscle mass, then the overall results look better. That has no effect on loose tummy skin, of course, but it DOES affect how the arms and thighs/buttocks look after weight loss. -
Apparently, I caught a bug--not just a hangover (two days?!?! from two drinks?!?!). I was up most of the night with an old-fashioned tummy ache. I kept my appt with the "personal terrorist" today, spent an hour working on balance/core exercises, then walked 25 minutes/1.6 miles on the treadmill.

Timing - Should I Do It Now Or Hold Off?
lessnless replied to bwohlgemuth's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was riding horses daily two weeks after surgery--no reason to think you couldn't be back to normal activities after 4-6 weeks. Even if you had to have a porter carry your bags, or skip the swimming pool, I think you'd still have a fantastic time--especially if your 50-100 pounds lighter by July! Think how active you'll be, without all that extra "baggage". -
I wish I'd taken up foxhunting when I was younger and my bones were quicker to heal.

Exactly! I never went a single day of my adult life without a caffeine-free diet soft drink or five. I gave them up the day of my consult, because I was convinced it would be too hard and I'd forget about the surgery. Surprisingly, I didn't suffer at all. I tried just a sip around Christmas, and it was awful! Can't believe I drank that crap daily. I'm not even tempted to try it again. ICK...

Me, rubbing it in: My neighbor called--having an impromptu pool party (just us stay-at-home girls). SWIMMING--in March... And margaritas...

I've been bad! I played hookey from the gym yesterday--had an IPL laser treatment for my blushing/rosacea. They say it feels like a rubberband zapping you in the face--not even close. Felt like I was being splattered with boiling bacon grease--youch! Today--nothing! Can't even tell I had anything done. I know, that's the beauty of IPL, but I'd like to see SOME indication that it's working. You know...a third eyeball sprouting from my forehead...something... Today, it's 80 degrees here, so I rode my pony instead. I was still active (just turning the horses out involves walking a mile), but I don't count it as exercise--too much fun. Short sleeve weather--gotta love Texas!

Taking medication (pill form) after the Lap-Band Procedure
lessnless replied to rosieg54's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Since I'm allergic to so many things, I always end up with the weird, off-the-wall antibiotic or pain meds. They're never available in a liquid form. Luckily, I live close to an old-fashioned compounding pharmacy (not a big chain drugstore). They're usually located near a hospital (remember the old mortar-and-pestle Rx signs). I can take almost any prescription in and have them grind the pills to make a liquid suspension. You can even "pick your poison" flavor-wise. This is a common thing in the horse world, since horses have to take 30-40 pills PER DAY when they're sick and they're very finicky eaters. One pony gets licorice-flavored meds, the other prefers peppermint! -
I'm still not able to run for the entire time--I'm doing intervals: 2 min walking, 3 min running. I'm working my way up there, though. I'm almost to where the slow jog is easier that the brisk walk. I make sure I swing my arms, no leaning on the treadmill, but I'm not ready to run on any kind of incline just yet. Small steps...
-
OK, I'm in... I'm still hooked on the treadmill. I'm up to 40 minutes/3.1 miles. I walk 2 minutes at 3.8 mph, then run 3 minutes at 5.0mph. I can now push my jogging speed to 6.0 mph--heck, I sprinted the last quarter-mile at 7.0 mph last week--but it makes my diaphram/band area sore INSIDE my ribcage. I think it's a combination of the underwire and the weight of the Double D's pressing down.:eek: I'm built for style, not speed, baybeeeee!:sneaky:
